Hey guys. Our twitter has remained relatively understaffed for some time now - I'm really the only active one. Additionally, the password is unchanged since we gained access to it. So, I have taken the liberty of changing the password, which has booted everyone else with access off.
This brings up the two prongs of the thread:
- Security of our twitter
Our twitter hasn't been terribly secure, just giving out the password. Twitter for teams is available through TweetDeck: in summary, it allows us to add people to tweet as @RSWiki without them having to know the password. (See here for more info on this feature.)
The two main downsides:
- Less people knowing the password means it may be harder to get it changed should we need to again in future.
- This feature is only available through TweetDeck, so other apps/extensions/etc can't be used. (TweetDeck is usable on mobile through a browser, but the user experience isn't great - clearly optimised for computers.)
- New twitter people
The people with official access to our twitter were:
- Flaysian
- Megadog14
- Urbancowgurl777
- KDanger
- possibly others, but they are not marked as such on RuneScape:Off-site/Twitter
I propose adding a few new contributors, so nominate/comment away in that section. The existing users, if they want to be re-added, can probably just contact me, unless we don't want to grandfather them in.

Security discussion
If possible, I would like to have one or two other people with the password just in case (not necessarily with any obligation to use it). Everyone else should use TweetDeck, unless they have significant reason not to. @Gaz#7521 02:09, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
Comment - I'm happy to hold the password for emergencies. I'm not a prolific user of Twitter, so don't take this as a tweeter nomination, but this would merely allow me to fill in for Gaz if he vanishes/dies/develops memory loss. User:Cqm/Signature
Comment - I'm also happy to hold the password if people want. I'm not a user of Twitter either, but I'm pretty accessible and reachable to people via on-wiki and off-wiki means. --LiquidTalk 22:51, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
Comment - As long as we volunteering, I'll take Cqm's password and the nuclear launch codes... but in all seriousness, I think that at least one crat should have access too.

Comment - I use Twitter, and I'm pretty accessible (RS, Twitter, Wiki, Discord) Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 17:21, March 13, 2017 (UTC)
Support 4 Liquid and Cqm - I think it's enough if those two also have the password, reliable people and have been around for long. Metal Angel cut your wrists 21:55, March 13, 2017 (UTC)
Nominations
Nominate yourself or others and discuss them here.
Existing users
I am fine with allowing these access if they want it back. Any further discussion on these can go here. @Gaz#7521 02:09, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
I would prefer not grandfathering in Megadog14 and KDanger, since they've been inactive on the wiki for more than two years - if they're not regularly interacting with the community, they can't know what wiki-related content or changes to tweet about. --Iiii I I I 03:16, March 12, 2017 (UTC)

Remove Megadog14 and KDanger - per fetus User:TyA/sig 18:22, March 13, 2017 (UTC)
Remove Mega and Danger +others? +1 for what fetus said, if they aren't active on wiki they shouldn't need the access to rsw twitter, surely if they come back they could be given the access to tweet again. If Gaz is the only one active atm, kick everyone off the list, unless Flay and Urban are willing to be more active in the future? Metal Angel cut your wrists 21:55, March 13, 2017 (UTC)
Comment - remove any one who does not comment to say that they want to continue helping with the twitter (like Flaysian has done below). IsobelJ 17:08, March 14, 2017 (UTC)

Jill is doing a great job with organising and advertising events. Twitter access would be a great benefit to her for this. @Gaz#7521 02:09, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
Support - Jill is an ideal candidate. This thread was a good idea -- I'll start back into regular tweeting again myself. Ronan Talk 02:40, March 12, 2017 (UTC)

I volunteer as Tribute! But seriously I am active on Twitter, so I could be able to tweet out stuff from time to time, like the most important page for an update on monday, perhaps the current TH promo's article when that's active, etc. I never used Tweetdeck before, but how hard could it be? :P Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 17:21, March 13, 2017 (UTC)

I use Twitter a little already for tweeting about my own RuneScape playing and for bothering jmods about upcoming updates. I think we could use twitter much more than we do now and I'd like to help out with that. IsobelJ 17:08, March 14, 2017 (UTC)

ThePsionic
I used to be a Twitter mod during the Great Password Handaround(tm) (hell, I'm still in the banner and I made such stunning tweets like this one and advertising the ET) and with the switch to TweetDeck teams I would definitely love being back on the account and making completely time-relevant but out-of-context tweets. something something grain of salt ThePsionic 17:29, March 14, 2017 (UTC)

What do we want on the twitter?
I think now would be a good time to a general discussion about the community want the Twitter to be used to tweet about and how regularly we want to be making tweets (multiple a day? Once a day? A couple a week?). I also think going forward that the twitter should be more open to people making requests for tweets, either informally or on RuneScape_talk:Off-site/Twitter, so long as they are suitable. Off the top of my I can think of lots of things that we could potentially tweet about (may or not actually be good ideas):
- RuneScape news
- An article most relevant to the week's RuneScape update
- Newsposts about Treasure Hunter promotions
- Retweet when Jmods tweet about upcoming updates/projects that they are working on
- Wiki news
- When a relevant discussion is started on the YG
- Consensus/outcome of a discussion when it is closed
- Congratulations when someone gets awarded the wikian title
- Announce when someone becomes an admin or bureaucrat
- Announce new projects that we want people to help with
- Tell people when a project has been completed
- Generally appeal for people's help every so often in editing
- Advertise the weekly events
- Advertise the community features from time to time

Meh - Honestly given the dearth of retweets, likes, and and general activity in our twitter feed I wouldn't be opposed to just shuttering it. It takes a lot of constant upkeep to keep a social media page up-to-date, and I'm not entirely sure the investment is worth it. To make this thing work will really take a lot of effort from several users. --LiquidTalk 03:06, March 21, 2017 (UTC)
- I do think its worth giving the twitter another shot: the success Jagex have had with it shows that twitter is a good way to communicate with RuneScape players. We already have a lot of followers on our account and hopefully with regular tweeting we will be able to get more of a response from them. The lack of activity on the feed at the moment comes from 4/5 members no longer being active but sending out a tweet every so often really isn't that much effort to make, and there's new people interested in doing it. Aside from that the banner will need updating; I don't mind making a new one. IsobelJ 16:44, March 22, 2017 (UTC)
Closed - I'll close this down now since there hasn't been any discussion for a week. Gareth can share the password with a user or users of his choosing, with the ones suggested in this thread being myself and Cam. There is consensus for Jill, Salix, and Isobel to gain access, and a lack of opposition that can be construed as status-quo maintaining Psi's access. In summary, the users with access to tweet will now be: User:Gaz Lloyd, User:Panjy16, User:Salix of Prifddinas, User:IsobelJ, and User:ThePsionic. The users with the password to the account itself will be User:Gaz Lloyd plus one or two others (I will update this closure statement once the password is shared). Due to the lack of interest for the past two weeks on what people want from twitter, the users who have access can tweet things that they consider to be appropriate and best for the wiki. --LiquidTalk 20:22, March 28, 2017 (UTC)
