Forums: Yew Grove > Upcoming updates images

One of the things requested in our survey was that more images be used on Upcoming updates. We've kind of started doing this already, but I'd like to formalise the new standards:

  • Update RS:FUTURE to mention that images from the official sources listed can be used on the wiki. In the case of livestreams, users can take screenshots when future content is being shown to upload to the wiki.
  • These images should use {{Fair use}} and have a link to the source of the image. The images should be placed in Category:Upcoming update images (will create this if thread is successful, have currently been using Category:Update hint images but the images don't really fit what that category was created for).

We should also consider what should happen to the images once updates go live. Concept art is always kept and used in trivia, but I feel like not all upcoming update images will be worthwhile keeping and that it should be decided on a case by case basis whether the images should be deleted once an update is live. If this is going to happen do we want to be having full RuneScape:Requests for deletion for each image, or could they fall under RuneScape:Criteria for speedy deletion? Support - I'd say RfD, but it's probably faster to amend RuneScape:Criteria for speedy deletion to include that images that are only used for upcoming updates and can't be placed as trivia images once the content is released, should be deleted as they are not used anymore. Support - When it comes to images/image policy, I usually defer to Isobel anyway, so I support. As for deletion, amending speedy deletion per Salix makes sense to me, as long as it is clear that it is an image "which cannot be used as trivia image, and does not have a place in the article upon release of content". Partial support - But only from official sources, i.e. developer blogs, concept art/teaser images released by verified JMods, the official website, maybe videos on YouTube. So no Twitch videos or anything, that would become untenable, and the system is wont to crash every second. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 06:43, November 11, 2017 (UTC)

Twitch is an official source. In what way is it "wont to crash every second"? --Iiii I I I 14:36, November 11, 2017 (UTC)
Well, I don't know if you've ever tried watching a video there (if not, count yourself lucky) but it ain't gonna work. :P And I meant that Twitch is a third party; IMO we ought to restrict ourselves only to things channelled through Jagexian (?) sources. 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 08:11, November 13, 2017 (UTC)
I've watched video's on Twitch, only because I didn't make it to watch it live and I've watched their livestreams live as well. Both times (live or playback) I can watch it just fine. It is an official Jagex source, because they have an official channel on Twitch called 'RuneScape' (which btw is also used for OSRS). Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 10:15, November 13, 2017 (UTC)
While Twitch is far from perfect, to act as if it is unusable is absurd. bad_fetustalk 08:12, November 18, 2017 (UTC)

Support - This is actually a component of the historical Leaks page that I miss. I support images from all official sources (including Twitch). As a comment to the discussion above re Twitch videos, they usually upload most of their Twitch live streams to YT anyway so if you're deadset on excluding Twitch, that is a technical workaround.
