This is a reset button on the previous discussion which went tragically misunderstood by about half the people who posted in it. It wasn't my fauilt! Now then, what is the deal with lighttables? Well, they don't work in any namespace besides main. How come?

Proposal below

We should fix it so that you can use them in any namespace, including userspace.

Proposal above

In case you're not sure what lighttables are, they're the type of table you can click on to highlight parts of it, such as is used on Completionist cape

Support - Barring any sort of compelling technical reason that prohibits this. There, are you happy Fergie?! I posted seriously for once!! Does this please you?! Robot talkSilver bar.png 18:10, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

I don't even know how to respond... User:Urbancowgurl777/Signature 21:41, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

It is not the psychos one should fear; it is the people that say they are completely normal. (...) 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 06:24, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

what - is it you're proposing. Ronan Talk 18:20, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

I think it's to standardize the light-table thingy across the other namespaces, such as user. Slayer log Coelacanth0794 Talk Contribs 18:23, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
There I fixed it. Sheesh! Robot talkSilver bar.png 18:24, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Question - Is this mechanically possible? If not, why not? Surely this would've already been applied by now. Slayer log Coelacanth0794 Talk Contribs 18:26, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Super easy in fact: Notice on - the wgCanonicalNamespace == 0 stuff, we just remove it, simple as that. Hair 18:28, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
Then why don't we just do that now? Support being bold Slayer log Coelacanth0794 Talk Contribs 18:48, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
If that would just end this lighttable debate, then please, just do that. 19:28, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
Support - If the whole work is to delete the line, then DO IT. I don't think that needs a discussion. It doesn't harm anything. Explore and enjoy the world! TIMMMO Work it with all my heart!++Discuss Sign 00:15, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Why was another forum created for the same thing the other one was proposing? Hair 18:28, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Well, I felt like it would be easiest because pretty much everyone in the last one misunderstood the proposal as written. Though this one isn't going much better now is it? Robot talkSilver bar.png 18:29, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
No, I'm pretty sure everyone understood it. 18:36, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Really? - Fine, yeah, userspace, I understand. Okay. But you're going to have to give a really good reason as to why the File and Template namespaces need lighttables. 18:36, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

I don't think that's much of an issue, really. Since all that would be changed is removing the if namespace blahbah things, it'd seem silly to add if namespace != file. You also should know most all our other scripts apply to all namespaces, such as the calculators. Hair 18:41, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
Support - By reason of convenience. Okay. Good enough for me.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blaze fire12 (talk) on 19:28, December 30, 2012 (UTC).

Support - Tried it on User:Iiii I I I/themechanges. Didn't work. Was gobsmacked. Am currently on the third stage of the Kübler-Ross model. --Iiii I I I 19:40, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

The Mersenne primes, man. They can bring you straight to step 7. MolMan 17:40, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Support - For the same reasons on the other thread, which I find ridiculous to figure out why it was closed. Robot, stop being an ass and get your act together. Haidro (talk) 22:46, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Force armies of lighttables upon every single page? Psycho for preident! 18px-Avatar.png Fswe1 26px-Brassica_Prime_symbol.svg.png 05:37, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Neutral - Now that I can actually understand what the proposal is, I'm not as against it, but will this see any actual widespread use or is it just to help in one of the initial proposer's many one-off, userspace projects? MolMan 17:40, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Question - The only way I'd see this not passing is if lighttables on multiple spaces would cause some cookie issue mentioned by Joey on the last thread. Joey, can you clarify this and explain how detrimental it would be? Otherwise I don't see any problem with it other than "hurr it's useless". User:Urbancowgurl777/Signature 18:34, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

Explain - Can someone explain what this even is? Love, Cat mask.pngMaceyPantsOvergrown cat (white).png 18:39, December 31, 2012 (UTC)

The table is like the one near the bottom of Completionist cape and also PHASL. The table allows you pretty much tick off stuff completed. It's also rather buggy too. Haidro (talk) 00:40, January 1, 2013 (UTC)
What bugs are there? --Iiii I I I 20:48, January 2, 2013 (UTC)
It seems kinda stupid with saving cookies; i.e. you check off box 4 and when you return later it's unchecked but boxes 6 and 3 are now checked. That's the big one I've experienced. MolMan 20:50, January 2, 2013 (UTC)
From what i recall, the original code (when it didn't matter) had cookies such that all lighttables shared cookies, so the cookies saved from one page were also enacted on another. I honestly have no idea if this is still the situation but sounds like a possible explanation. --Henneyj 18:54, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Support - Actually wanted to support the previous thread which was unnecessarily closed. It would prove convenient to use them in quest articles as a check list for what items does the player need left to start the quest. Perhaps even use it in each section in a quest to state which items are needed for that specific part of the quest. Other than that I see no other feasible uses apart from what lighttables are being used for already. -- Recent uploads SpineTalkGuest book 01:09, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

That's not what the proposal is@@ User:Urbancowgurl777/Signature 01:13, January 4, 2013 (UTC)
Please not a third thread... Haidro (talk) 01:20, January 4, 2013 (UTC)
That would be great! Except for the fact that as Mol said, "i.e. you check off box 4 and when you return later it's unchecked but boxes 6 and 3 are now checked." 01:22, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Closed - Lighttables will be able to be used throughout all namespaces. Hair 04:59, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
