New Event

Hey Azaz, I wanted to let you guys know about a wikilicious event we are running to promote the release of Community Blogs across Wikia the first week of April. The event will give you a chance to test out blogs while earning some major mojo with the community. Here's are the details:

  • Users will create a blog post highlighting 3 reasons why everyone should play your game
  • At the end of the week, Wikia will pick winners amongst all communities involved
  • Prizes for the winning community will include:
    • Wikia will create custom artwork and set up an online store for the wiki, so you can create mousepads, coasters, Daisy Dukes, etc... (hey, we're not judging)
    • 5 professionally designed T-shirts featuring the wiki's logo and custom text provided by the community
    • Featured placement on Wikia Gaming
    • Custom Spotlights driving traffic and awareness to your community

If this sounds like fun to you, and I know it does, just drop me a line and tell me your in :)

Cheers -- Doug (talk) 20:03, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

p.s. great job on the wikifest, that's a phenomenal idea!

This was a message posted on my talk page by Doug a few minutes ago. I'm posting it here to ensure everyone is aware of this. As always I am remaining neutral on this issue and will put it to the the community to mull over.--

Also, should anyone have any questions, feel free to post them on Doug's talk page.-- 20:10, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

That... event... sounds... fricking... awesome. Especially the rewards. I'm all for participating in it. Here's some reasons people should play our game:

  • There's unlimited and absolutely free free-to-play, which contains well over 100 hours of gameplay before you start to do some of the same stuff twice
  • There's both high detail and low detail options, so that old computers can still play while newer computers can play with great graphics
  • Pay-to-play is some of the cheapest among all P2P MMOs ($5.95/month, as opposed to $14.95+/month/£3.50 a month), and has several times as many things to do as free-to-play, offering thousands of hours of gameplay
  • Over 135,000,000 accounts created makes it the most popular MMO in those terms
  • Nothing to download or buy to play

I know that that's five things and we're limited to three, but they're ideas. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!Loon is best buttlord 20:42, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I agree, what a great idea. personally it's the depth and humour of the quests and backstory that keeps me hooked. Any more ideas out there? Administrator Hurston (T # C) 22:58, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

That is so cool! but if there is going to be t-shirts then we need to get our logo decision over quickly. a reason?:

  • Its a browser game, and you can reach it from anywhere at anytime.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness18:23, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Let's go for it! And if we do this, do you know how much Jagex would thank us for introducing more players? More pros: *As stated by 2+2, it is a browser game. Which means, obviously, it requires NO DOWNLOAD.- Oh, Chia already said that. :P

  • It has a very large forum, and Jagex has even been talking about letting higher-level Free Players access to them.
  • The staff are VERY connected with the players-In fact, they just started the Development Diaries again!
  • A VERY LARGE FREE WORLD, OF COURSE.
  • Very agreeable rules.
  • Only one advert at the top of the screen during gameplay (none if member, of course).
  • They take RWT very seriously- they were willing to lose MANY players to simply stop this practice at the Wildy Updates. Signed, http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 18:14, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Since there seems to be general agreement to participate in this event, I'll inform Doug of our involvement. Please continue to use this post for idea gathering and general blog event discussion.--

As I mentioned earlier we need to get this:Forum:Logo sorted out then.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness15:14, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

As that discussion is going, it seems that most people still want our current logo, which means that this can progress. :)
Anyway, as time goes on, we'll need to decide a final three reasons. I think we should go with something along the lines of:
  1. RuneScape is very popular. It has over 135,000,000 accounts created, which makes it the most popular MMO in those terms, it has 15,000,000 active free-to-play accounts, which makes it the most popular in those terms as well, and it has a few million active pay-to-play accounts, which makes it the second most popular in those terms.
  2. There's unlimited and absolutely free free-to-play, which contains well over 100 hours of gameplay before you start to do some of the same stuff twice. Most MMOs have a cost attached to their "free" trial, which would also end after so long. Though, once you start to want more, you can pay only $5.58 a month for pay-to-play status, which offers several times as many things to do.
  3. There's nothing to install, nothing to download, and nothing to buy, which means that it uses up no memory on a computer, and that it can be played from anywhere.
As for saying that it's fun and whatnot, it's a video game. That's just about as obvious as things can get, so I don't think we need to bother saying such a thing :).
If anyone is confused to why I listed membership as being $5.58 and not $5.95, it's because if you buy 12 months of membership via PayPal, each month is slightly cheaper. We need to have our game as appealing as possible.
Lastly, has there been an announced deadline? Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!Loon is best buttlord 04:03, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Full Support - It sounds great!and as Telos said,we have nothing to lose!

  1. Nothing to buy, nothing to install, you don't have to do anything, except play!there's like no waiting,no purchasing at all.
  1. Runescape is a great game, because they have a really great game for non-paying members, and if you are a member, you don't want to stop!!Also, there's nothing you have to do,everything except for the tutorial is decided by you!anyone can decide what they want to do!
  1. The runescape community is great!and Jagex isn't all horribly strict on gamers who just want to play. They banned unfair macros, and that shows they're willing to get rid of cheaters for fair play!I thinks its great. --

We need to get Forum:Logo sorted out then if we are going to have merchandise with the logo on!Joe Click Here for Awesomeness16:55, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Support and comment Sounds a great idea. Forum:Logo looks fairly conclusive at the moment - the current logo is far ahead. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 18:23, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Support and comment great idea and a great opportunity. current logo was only ahead by 2 last I checked (official vote).(ps: the logo convorsation has been discussed with doug on his talk (see top of article) --Cosmic rune Peckham33 Talk Chaos rune 19:32, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Absolute and Total Support This would really be great for the Runescape Wiki. However, if we are going to get custom designed t-shirts, then we had better get our logo designed so we can put it on the shirts.

3 reasons why Runescape is the best game ever:
  1. It has nearly unlimited content for anyone to play. I.E. I just started playing 8 months ago and I am still a newb and am not nearly done with everything.
  2. There are very detailed graphics in the game, even in low-detail mode.
  3. There are a slew of monsters to fight in the game for newbs and oldies alike.

Support and comment For one of the three things as to why people should play RuneScape, community. Clans, Specialist Groups (such as the wonderful Team Penguin hunting group), Events (both player and Jagex hosted), even the random acts of kindness people give every day. Boomer12342 23:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Support and comment This sounds like a great opportunity for RSW. I think the only thing I could add would be a mention about the quests.

RuneScape's quests almost always have hidden humor, all of which is completely clean. The storylines are well thought out and keep you on the edge of your seat until the end (and beyond).

I like how Chiafriend put the ideas together. Def nub Talk † Jαşòηmr¢ † 'Trib's Sara nub 04:25, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

i think this would be a great idea for us runescape wikian's to show our creativity and for sure we should enter it as it sounds really fun plus it would give us some publicity we need {SUBST:Nosubst|Signatures/Legaking}} 17:39, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
