Granite helm chathead

Granite equipment is, as the name suggests, equipment made from granite. Unlike most armours, which have boots and gloves or gauntlets, there are only four pieces of granite armour. They are members only items. The shield is dropped by various trolls; the granite legs are dropped by Skeletal Wyverns; the body is available from the Barbarian assault minigame, and one may kill terror dogs to find a granite helmet. Two weapons are associated with the set, the granite maul and the granite mace. The granite maul is dropped by gargoyles while the granite mace is dropped by statues in the Bandos Throne Room (completion of the quest "The Chosen Commander" is required to kill these statues but the mace does not have any quest requirements to wield). Any piece of granite equipment may be bought at the Grand Exchange or from another person, most pieces of the granite set are only dropped by monsters which require medium-high slayer levels to kill (the granite plate and maul are the only exceptions) and are fairly rare drops so many mid-range leveled players choose to simply buy the set rather than attempting to obtain the items as drops. To wear pieces of granite armour, 55 Defence and 55 Strength are required; 55 Attack and 55 Strength are needed to wield the granite weapons. Granite armour has the same defence as Rune armour although the granite body gives a greater life bonus than the rune version. Due to having nearly identical stats to the much cheaper rune armour the granite set is often considered to be a mainly cosmetic armour similar to trimmed, gilded, and god associated rune armour sets. Granite armour and weapons are also notable for being much heavier than other pieces of equipment (Granite platelegs have a mass of 15 kg, and as a comparison, rune platelegs have a mass of 9 kg).

Granite equipment cannot be carved from granite that can be mined from the quarry.

Dondakan the Dwarf owns granite boots, but refuses to sell them for any price.

Trivia

  • When worn on male players, the body and legs cover up all of that area of skin. However, when worn on female players, the midriff is shown.
  • The colour of granite rocks in the quarry are of a sandy desert colour, while the granite armour has a grey-ish tone.
  • Before RuneScape 3, Granite armour used to require level 50 Defence to equip.
  • Prior to the Evolution of Combat update granite equipment offered better stats than rune equipment, this change along with the removal of the special attack from the granite weapons resulted in a considerable drop in the value of all granite items.
  • Shortly before the Evolution of Combat using the special attack of either the granite maul or the granite mace generate a message in the players chatbox stating that since the special attacks only function was to attack immediately following the previous attack (and did not offer any increased damage although at the time most players believed it did) using the special attack as the first strike in combat was essentially a waste of the special attack bar (paraphrased).
  • The special attack of both the granite maul and the granite mace consumed only 50% of the special attack bar (presumably due to the very limited benefit of using their special attacks) and could therefor be performed twice before waiting for the special attack bar to regenerate. This was unusual as most special attacks consumed the players entire special attack bar with a single use (the Armadyl Godsword, Dragon Dagger, and poisoned Dragon Daggers are other notable exceptions).
