Sprinkling neem oil on it while it is charging will prevent it from using its rapid-hitting poison attack, which will hit multiple 12s in quick succession. The player sprinkles the neem oil by clicking on the jug of neem oil in the inventory. The Grifolapine to be sprinkled is automatically selected, usually the one being attacked. But if the Grifolapine has been previously sprinkled and is still in the Ranged attack mode caused by the sprinkling, an additional sprinkling will cause the player to run to another Grifolapine and sprinkle it. Fortunately, that Grifolapine will not attack because the previous Grifolapine is still alive.

Grifolapine icon

The Grifolapine is a monster found in the Polypore Dungeon. It requires a Slayer level of 88 to kill, and 60 Magic for the player to receive as a Slayer task.

Strategy

The mushrooms on the platform can be used to hide behind to prevent toxic fungus damage. This monster attacks with magic most of the time, so Protect from Magic/Deflect Magic will prevent most damage dealt. When using Neem oil it will not attack with Magic anymore, but it will use its Ranged attack, hence using Protect from Missiles/Deflect Missiles can be used. It is resistant to Ranged and Melee damage, so Magic would be the ideal method of attacking these creatures. Unusually, these monsters only move in combat, and even then only when charging.

Part way through combat, when the player is using an obstruction to prevent the Grifolapine from rushing and using its toxic fungus attack, it will move at an angle to one side or the other of the obstruction. This often allows it to move around the obstruction and close on the player, releasing its toxic fungus.

Trivia

  • When the Grifolapine rushes at a player, it exclaims "Raargh!", but if the player is behind a object, such as a fungal growth, it will say "* sigh *" and resume ranged and magic attacks.
  • If it is sprinkled with neem oil, the Grifolapine hisses "Ssss!"
  • It is based on a porcupine.
