The H.A.M. mage is only fought during the Another Slice of H.A.M. quest. After he and a H.A.M. ranger attack the Goblin Village, the player is sent to kill them. As both H.A.M. warriors are standing behind a pile of crates, they can only be fought using the magic or the ranged skills.
Note for lower levels the combination of the two can be VERY dangerous and ,should you die, you may not be able to retrieve your items because of Goblin Village's remoteness.
