Hidden updates

Hidden updates are updates which are not mentioned in the RuneScape news or the official forums. Jagex used to add many small updates and bug fixes which were too trivial to announce; they now include most of their updates in the Patch Notes sticky of the Recent Updates forum. However, there are still some updates which are not included in the Patch Notes for various reasons. Hidden updates that occur separately from major updates can sometimes also be recognised due to the build changing, which can be found in the Developer's Console.

September

• 28 September
  • A tainted shard was given to all players on login.
• 24 September
  • The option to right-click the Spellbook Swap spell in the spellbook to swap to other spellbooks directly without the interference of a message box was added.
  • Björn has been made available to be redeemed with a Premier Club reward token.
• 10 September
  • The overlay used for example for examine texts now uses a new font.
• 3 September
  • Filled compost bins, yaks, pack yaks, and sick-looking sheep have been graphically updated.
  • The well south-west of Tree Gnome Stronghold has been graphically updated.
  • Items now become noted if more than 1 item is withdrawn at a time from a tool leprechaun.
  • Remaining log fires, bar coloured and protean, have been graphically updated to look the same as normal log fires.
  • Player-owned farm noticeboards have been added to the game.
  • Rusty chest has been made obtainable again.

August

• 31 August
  • Seven special farm animals have been made available to spot around the world for experience lamps.
• 28 August
  • Cows outside of Zanaris have been replaced by strawberry cows, vanilla cows, and chocolate cows.
  • Some of the chickens, undead chickens, roosters, pekins and undead pekins have had their textures updated.
  • The Beach has been removed.
• 20 August
  • Event noticeboards are back, now referencing Rune Capers event.
• 16 August
  • Nic the trader has been removed from his spot in Falador Park.
• 14 August
  • Nic the trader has been added to Falador Park.

• 13 August
  • A Dragonkin Laboratory portal has been added to the Summer Beach Party.
  • A magical feather and an ancient scroll have been added, as part of Mod Ryan trading sequence. As a temporary glitch, the rusty chest has been made unobtainable.

July

• 16 July
  • Count Check has been removed from his spot in Burthorpe.
  • The Runesphere icon has been changed so that when a new one spawns, the rune icon appears over the Pure energy icon.
• 9 July
  • More items have been added to the oddments store and most of the previous items have had their prices lowered.
  • Oddments have been made available again through Treasure Hunter.
• 6 July
  • Several scrimshaws have had their prices manually adjusted in order to compensate for their reduced cost in ancient bones.
• 1 July
  • Parcels from the Hedge related items have been removed.

June

• 25 June
  • Scrimshaws of aggression, corruption, and sacrifice have been made tradeable.
• 18 June
  • The New Varrock and Wushanko: The Arc subcategories were moved from the Miscellaneous achievements to the Exploration achievements.
    • Including 14 meta achievements related to both areas in the Miscellaneous category itself were also moved to Exploration (10 achievements were moved here), as well as to Wushanko: The Arc (4 achievements were moved here).
• 11 June
  • All graahks received a graphical update.
  • The message that instructs players to press alt + ~ to open up the developer console when only ~ was pressed has been removed.
• 4 June
  • The Maiden of Sugadinti was removed from the Summer Special lobby banner.

May

• 29 May
  • Fallen Nihil Headpiece, Fallen Nihil Chestpiece, Fallen Nihil Leg-guards, Fallen Nihil Gauntlets, Fallen Nihil Greaves, and Fallen Nihil Wings have been added to the Oddments Store.
• 14 May
  • Rune arrows no longer trigger the spring cleaner on drop when dropped by fire giants.
  • Event noticeboards have been added, referencing the Mental Health Awareness Week event.

April

• 30 April
  • Lilies of the valley have been added back.
  • The Spring Fayre event has been removed.
  • The Easter themed decorations have been removed.
  • The font colour used on the Clan Chat and Friends Chat user lists has been changed to white.
• 3 April
  • The animation performed when using an item on a bank has been removed.
• 1 April
  • White, red, yellow, green, blue, and purple partyhats spawned at various locations around Gielinor as part of the 2018 April Fools event.

March

• 26 March
  • Trees, oaks, willows, maple trees, yews, and magic trees around Gielinor have been updated with an Easter theme.
• 19 March
  • The ground textures and trees on Braindeath Island were updated.
  • Rock Island Prison was graphically updated.
  • Popup messages have been added under certain circumstances, such as "You can't do that while stunned."
• 12 March
  • Tutorial Island returned as part of an A/B test for new accounts.
  • Standard log fires have been graphically updated.
  • The hooded pirate has been added, as part of the Lovingly Crafted achievement.

February

• 26 February
  • The spa pools now have buff icons.
• 12 February
  • The algorithm that shuffles puzzle box puzzles has been updated, increasing the average number of moves required for completion.
  • Event noticeboards are now back, displaying Zodiac Festival.

January

• 22 January
  • Auras can now be reset infinitely using reaper points from Death's Store.
  • Tackle box interface has been updated.
• 8 January
  • The ground texture in the Grand Exchange area has been updated.
• 3 January
  • Shining prismatic stars and Shining prismatic lamps are released; replacing Prismatic fallen star and lamps during Prismania.
