The Holy cithara is an object that can be found within the holy reliquary in the basement of the Abbey of St. Elspeth Citharede. Receiving the Holy Cithara for the first time rewards the player with 50,000 prayer experience. The Holy Cithara has a right-click play option which, upon clicking, will make the player play the cithara energetically for a few seconds.

Attempting to take the Cithara may result in the player getting hit for your current life points -1. This number is reduced if the player is already damaged, and getting hit when not at full health will not result in the player's death.

Obtaining the Holy Cithara

To obtain the Holy Cithara a player must wear a variety of equipment and meet certain "Holy" requirements:

  • You must be on regular prayers; not Ancient curses.
  • You must have full prayer points.
  • Ancient Magicks is not allowed (Normal or Lunar spellbooks only).
  • You may NOT have any items affiliated with another god in your inventory.
  • Equip a Ring of visibility, AND Ghostspeak amulet OR Cramulet (if still having trouble getting item, dismantle the cramulet into the ghostspeak amulet and drop all other amulets on the floor, but don't forget to pick them back up afterwards), and 6 pieces of Saradomin Equipment.
  • You must not have any coins in your inventory.

These items are acceptable pieces of Saradomin Equipment:

Tips and Misconceptions

  • You ONLY need 6 items. Wearing more items than necessary will work, with certain setups. However, they are not required and they simply do not prohibit you from receiving the Holy Cithara.
  • The Citharede robes are not required, they are simply free and readily available after completing the quest. Other Saradomin items, such as the Saradomin Blessed Dragonhide Armour are acceptable replacements.
  • All of the items listed on the Saradomin Items page do NOT work for this application. E.g. White Gloves and White Boots will not meet the requirements. They will actually prohibit a player from aquiring the Cithara. Simply removing the White Boots, not replacing, will grant a player access to the harp (assuming the other requirements are in order).
  • Many players are reporting non-saradomin items as "this also works". This comes from the misconception that you need 7 items. Players are simply wearing an item that neither adds nor subtracts from Saradomin's Blessing. Common examples of this are the Cooking Gauntlets, Boots of Lightness, or a Soul Wars cape. It is believed that an incomplete Saradomin Holy Book (Damaged Book) also falls into this "doesn't help, doesn't hurt" catagory, but that is currently unproven.
  • Because the Falador Task Shields have a symbol that closely resembles the Saradomin mark it is sometimes called the Saradomin shield. It is not a Saradomin item, not even in God Wars. This Shield is another example of an item that will actually prevent you from receiving the Holy Cithara.
  • The requirements can be met without having to purchase any expensive items. A single arrow is easily obtainable on the G.E. even after the release of the quest. Both the Saradomin Staff (God Staff) and Saradomin Cape (God Cloak) can be obtained for no more than the cost of the materials needed to complete the Mage Arena activity. Be Advised: The Mage Arena is a dangerous minigame and a player is required to enter the wilderness to reach the activity.
  • Most Saradomin items can't be lent. Many players are asking for "trust trades". Please bear in mind, if you willingly give an item to another player, regardless of what they promise, you GAVE them the item. Jagex has officially stated that they do not condone trust trades and you will not get your item(s) back.
  • Holding items that are from the quest in your inventory will prevent you from getting the Holy cithara.

Proven Setups

ALL setups also require a Ring of Visibility and either the Cramulet or Amulet of Ghostspeak.

  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), 1 Saradomin Arrow, Illuminated Holy Book, Saradomin Vambraces.
  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), 1 Saradomin Arrow, Illuminated Holy Book, Saradomin Crozier.
  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), 1 Saradomin Arrow, Saradomin Crozier, Saradomin Vambraces.
  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), Illuminated Holy Book, Saradomin Crozier, Saradomin Vambraces.
  • Previous setups with a Holy Book instead of the Illuminated version.
  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), Illuminated Holy Book, Saradomin Cape, Saradomin Staff, 1 Saradomin Arrow.
  • Saradomin Blessed D'Hide Top and Bottom, Saradomin Coif, Saradomin Cloak, Saradomin Staff, Holy Book
  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), Saradomin Kiteshield, 1 Saradomin Arrow, Saradomin Staff, Saradomin Cape
  • Citharede Robes (3 pieces), 1 Saradomin Arrow, Saradomin Staff, Saradomin Cape

This is just a few of the possible combination of items that can be used receive the Holy Cithara.
