[FAQ] • [doc]

An Iron Dragon may be encountered while training Dungeoneering, they normally appear alone in rooms in the furnished floors (floors 18-29), even on free-to-play servers, although they have been known to appear with other monsters. This monster uses a long-range dragonfire attack in addition to its regular dragonfire attack. This can prove very deadly to those without an anti-dragon shield or a cure potion, or those with two-handed weapons such as bows or two-handed swords. Protect from/Deflect Magic may also be used to avoid heavy damage from Dragonfire, but the dragon will still regularly hit in the 300s. Unlike normal iron dragons found on the surface of RuneScape, these monsters are weak to crush weapons, so those with mauls or warhammers will have an advantage.

Strengths and weaknesses[]

Iron dragons, like all metal dragons, have very high defence. As with all dragons, an anti-dragon shield or cure potion is essential when fighting them. Without the shield, you can be hit extremely hard by the dragon's firebreath, while Protect from Magic and the cure potion will only provide added protection. It is possible to reduce the damage from the dragon's breath using Protect from Magic, but this effect does not stack with the shield or the potion, and the dragon will still hit over 300 without a miss when it uses its breath.

Dragons will use all melee, magic and dragonfire attacks while in melee range, but will only use ranged dragonfire and magic attack while the player is out of melee range. The dragon will not change target unless the player it initially locked on to runs away or dies.

Strategies[]

The gear that should be taken with you is armour that increases magic bonus and your anti-dragon shield. Those fighting in teams only need to use crush (without needing full armour), as the dragon does not easily change target.
