[FAQ] [doc]

The Lesser demon (also known as a Lesser), is weaker than a Greater demon, but still fairly strong. It has a maximum hit of 8 damage, 79 Hitpoints, and regenerates damage at an average rate of 5 HP per minute.

Players often kill lesser demons because they drop valuable items that can be alched through the High Level Alchemy spell, including the rune medium helmet (high alched for 11,520 coins).

The Lesser Demon has a somewhat low defence, allowing players to train for experience.

The lesser demon is the fifth strongest non-revenant, non-quest and non-random event monster in free-to-play, only to be beaten by Ankous in the Stronghold of Security, level 85 Skeletons in the Stronghold of Security, Cockroach soldiers in the Stronghold of Player Safety, and Greater demons in the Wilderness. They are very popular monsters to kill. One is fought as a boss in Melzar's Maze during Dragon Slayer to get the Green Key which allows you to get the Map Piece. This is the fourth monster to get the title: Strongest Monster in RuneScape from RuneScape Classic.

Training

Main Article See: Lesser Demon guide

Lesser demons are very effective training monsters for players that are low to medium leveled (around level 60). Since Karamja has many fishing spots, food is provided right at the site. Since most level 60 and up hit at least 10, they can rapidly do a lot of damage to the lesser. The respawn time of a lesser is quick, which means experience is gained quickly killing them. It is recommended to wear strong armour like adamant or rune however, and that rangers and mages take a few pieces of good food to withstand the first 10 minutes, while the Lesser Demons are aggressive.

The Lesser demon is affected by the powers of Silverlight and Darklight. However, it is not recommended to use them because both weapons are still rather inaccurate.

There is a safespot for ranging, maging and halberding in the Taverly Dungeon, which can be used once the demons are no-longer aggressive (ie. after ten minutes.) This is not a multi-combat zone so it is also possible to hide behind other demons.

There are also three safespots for ranging, maging, and halberding in the Karamja dungeon that are very useful, however this dungeon sometimes gets crowded on non-member servers.

Extra information

As of the 29 August 2006 update, the lesser demons' looks were tweaked by Jagex, giving the demons a more unique and distinguished look than prior to this update. There are also different "forms" of Lesser demon that look different. Additionally, the Lesser demon in Melzar's Maze is taller than the other Lesser demons. Also after the update the Melzar's Maze lesser appeared glitched due to the fact that Jagex had forgotten to update it. This has been fixed by Jagex.

K'ril Tsutsaroth, the boss monster of the Zamorak section of the God Wars Dungeon, is classified as a Lesser Demon, thus killing him counts towards any Lesser Demon Slayer Task, and also allows a player to take advantage of the abilities of a Black Mask, if they have a Lesser Demon Slayer Task.

Trivia

  • When an update that introduced Karamja was released, this monster was the single most powerful monster in the game. It held this title until the release of the Wilderness introduced the Greater demon.
