|First appearance||Return to Canifis|
|Last appearance||Legacy of Blood|
He is a haemophiliac, and following a riding accident, was saved by a Zamorakian priest in exchange for his devotion to Zamorak. In exchange for a blood clotting potion, he provides courtroom gossip to the Zamorakians. Due to this he is very fearful, even scared of stairs. This also makes him a bad combatant, for which he is constantly mocked, especially by the disgraced Kinshra leader Lord Sulla following his rise to fame for killing the Wyrd. He keeps his Zamorakianism secret, though does not attempt to pay lip service to Saradominist views, evidenced by his refusing to accompany his friend Squire Theodore to the chapel in Varrock palace to pray.
His father and grandfather were both chancellors of Varrock, and it was expected he would be as well one day. He had a cousin Rudolph, a Zamorakian mage who was killed by Kara-Meir, and an uncle, also a Zamorakian mage, who was killed by the Varrock guard. He had feelings for Lady Caroline, who agreed to marry him following the Battle of King Botolph's Tower.
His family sigil is a silver-headed fox.
Misthalin-Morytania War of 164
Following the Siege of Falador, William is tasked with accompanying Squire Theodore during his time in Varrock. He goes with Theodore to the Flying Donkey Inn where Kara-Meir has supposedly taken a room for the night, buying him a dwarven stout. During the time in the pub, he does his best to avoid conflict, causing Theodore to curse him for a coward in anger. He also later accompanies Theodore, Doric and Castimir to the site of a Wyrd killing.
He accompanies the embassy being sent to Morytania to call of the Wyrd's attack and demand the children returned up to where they reach the temple at Paterdomus, where he stays for a night then returns to Varrock to aid Ebenezer in his illness and in his investigation into the Wyrd's actions.
During Legacy of Blood, it is revealed that he is a worshipper of Zamorak primarily due to the fact that it is a Zamorakian priest keeping him alive. When Lord Mews attempts to arrest him, Theodore, still sore about his actions at Castimir's trial, intervenes, allowing his friend to escape. William has his lands and titles stripped for this. During the Battle of King Botolph's Tower, he shows uncharacteristic bravery and kills a zombie attacking Pia, rallies the defenders and instructs them to aim for the head and heart. He is nearly killed due to his blood not clotting, but survives and marries Lady Caroline.
