Luck is a mechanic that determines the chance for receiving certain rare or special drops and rewards from various sources. Luck was significantly reworked on 27 March 2017 (update) to categorize affected drops and rewards into 4 tiers of luck, each corresponding to one or more luck enhancing items.

Luck enhancers

The following items will increase the chances of receiving drops and rewards affected by luck. While enhancers for tiers 1–3 only affect the rewards specific to their tier, a tier-4 luck enhancer will increase chances for rewards in all 4 tiers.

Tier Items
1 Ring of luck, strung rabbit foot
2 Ring of wealth, collector's insignia, leprechaun hat, luck potion
3 Ring of fortune, charged collector's insignia, enhanced luck potion
4 Luck of the dwarves

Drops and rewards affected by luck

The luck mechanic affects various rewards, including drops from slayer monsters and bosses, rewards from certain skilling activities, and clue scroll rewards. Using luck enhancers increases the chance to receive these rewards, as outlined below.

Slayer monsters

Increased chance of unique drops such as dark bows and abyssal whips, as well as parts of the crystal key and crystal triskelion key. However pets, sirenic scales, Ascension keystones and signets, and Champion's scrolls are not affected by luck.

Tier Monsters
1 Level 1–50 Slayer monsters: Crawling hand, Banshee, Rock slug, Cockatrice, Basilisk, Infernal mage, Desert lizard
2 Level 51–80 Slayer monsters: Turoth, Aberrant spectre, Dust devil, Kurask, Gargoyle, Nechryael, Cave horror, Muspah, Nihil, Aquanite, Jungle strykewyrm, Desert strykewyrm
3 Level 80–99 Slayer monsters: Abyssal demon, Mutated jadinko, Ascension creature, Ganodermic beast, Spiritual mage, Airut, Lava strykewyrm, Camel warrior, Mammoths, Ripper demon, Living wyvern, Edimmu, Dark beast, Ice strykewyrm, Chaos giant, Tormented demon, Glacor, Nightmare creature
4 All of the above

Bosses

Increased chance to receive a unique drop, such as an Armadyl chestplate or clingy mole. The chances to receive boss pets are not affected by luck.

Tier Bosses
1 Giant Mole and King Black Dragon
2 Barrows, Chaos Elemental, Commander Zilyana, Dagannoth Kings, exiled Kalphite Queen, General Graardor, K'ril Tsutsaroth, Kalphite Queen, and Kree'arra
3 Abomination, Corporeal Beast, Gregorovic, Helwyr, Kalphite King, Nex, Queen Black Dragon, Twin Furies, Vindicta, and WildyWyrm
4 All of the above plus Araxxi, Barrows: Rise of the Six, Beastmaster Durzag, Nex: Angel of Death, Telos, the Warden, Vorago, and Yakamaru

History

Prior to the luck rework of 27 March 2017, luck was only improved by the ring of wealth, Collector's insignia, leprechaun hat and luck potion, all of which:

  • Slightly improved unique drops from some monsters (but not many bosses)
  • Improved the rare drop table access chance and clue scroll drop chance
  • Increased the chance of mining gems

All of these items’ effects were identical (charging the insignia doubled its effect) and did not stack.

The 2017 update added tiers to luck, and rings to fill those tiers with the existing ring of wealth being moved into tier 2.
