This talk page is for discussing the MediaWiki:Sidebar page.

We've got too many links in the sidebar, and the search box is no longer on the page when you are scrolled to the top. In my opinion, we have excess forum links. Woodcutting-iconHyenastetalk 03:06, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Before anyone just goes and edits the sidebar, I say we make it look like this:
    • Navigation
    • mainpage|Home
    • recentchanges-url|recentchanges
    • RuneScape:Counter vandalism unit|Report vandalism
    • Updates|Game updates
    • helppage|Help
  • Technical
    • Special:Allpages|All articles
    • Special:Newpages|New articles
    • Special:Newimages|New images
    • randompage-url|randompage
  • Forums
    • Forum:Index|Index

Works for me, but call the link to allpages "Alphabetical list" or something because it is more of a listing that a page of every article. Woodcutting-iconHyenastetalk 03:26, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Do we really need the New Articles and New Images on the sidebar? Seems more a moderator thing, and we can use the Special Pages link anyway. Especially New Images. If we got rid of those and maybe moved Alphabetical list to the navigation, it would get search back up on the page without scrolling. Avian Maid Feather Talk 01:22, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Heh. I was kinda asking before doing it myself in case someone had a reason to keep it, but that works. Avian Maid Feather Talk 02:15, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Incorrect "Report vandalism" on sidebar

You changed the "Report vandalism" link on the MediaWiki:Sidebar. It used to link as:

RuneScape:Counter vandalism unit|Report vandalism

But you changed it to:

RuneScape:Counter vandalism unit|Report vandalism

However, the document "RuneScape:Counter vandalism unit" does not exist (only the "RuneScape:Counter Vandalism Unit".

Could you correct the link please (as I don't have the access), in case someone wants to report vandalism using the sidebar link. Thanks. Amaurice talk 08:08, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

um d00d liek t3h 404 not found fix dis ty. (Er...404 Problem.)

I noticed the link ( To the offsite fourms is an fresh breed HTTP 404 NOT FOUND. The problem may be a spelling error. Hmmm, if only I was an admin. The King of Fakes 16:56, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Huh? There is no link to the offsite forums. ChristineTalk 16:59, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
The link is for the new beta ones, but looking at the URL that King of Fakes has quoted, it looks like he as gone directly to the page MediaWiki:Sidebar. However, the format of MediaWiki:Sidebar is not normal Wiki format, so does not render correctly in the main area. It's only intended for use in the sidebar itself. I've seen this sort of confusion before. Amaurice talk 17:37, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Does anything need to be fixed? The links work fine to me but I'm not sure what he's saying. ChristineTalk 17:45, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Sister wikis link

I was thinking, if no one minded, of adding a "sister wikis" box, looking something like this. It still lets people see the search bar without scrolling at all (if their using quartz skin then it isn't a issue at all), and would boost traffic to both the other language wikis and the Fan fic and Un RuneScape Wikis. I Support this idea, maybe we can also put a link to the Wikia gaming hub. Jigo22 04:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
On a lower resolution (like I used to have) the search bar might require some scrolling. :\ Skill 04:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
It would be nice if it was in a collapsable box (like the ones on Halopedia) so it would be close to indefinate that users won't have to scroll down to search. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 07:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
You mean like it is on a quartz skin? Skill 07:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind. A few months ago on the Monobook skin, Halopedia had collapsable sections in their Sidebar. It seems that they don't now. Dragon helmChiafriend12Granite body (old)I have 12 friends. 07:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
They still do, and I would need to scroll >_< I'm not going to oppose because of something dumb like that, but I really have no opinion so I won't vote. Just commenting that they still have them. ChristineTalk 19:39, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I support this idea.--Zeeus 22:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Support I think it's a good idea. Making it collapsable would be a good idea but I have no thought on the subject. Chicken7 >talk 06:10, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Support - It'd be useful, as long as it was collapsible and collapsed by default to avoid inconvenience... I often use the search bar rather than my browser's nav bar to find/create new pages, it's quicker. Slayer-icon Gangsterls Divination-icon talk23:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Support There isn't any reason to oppose, and it would be a rather useful collection of links.

Support, but I would prefer if it was under the search box on the Monobook skin, although I can't find anything on MediaWiki on how to do that. Grim reaper hood Ben RyfosTalk 22:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Support. Although I don't go to those much, it would be incredibly helpful to have faster access to one of the sister wikis. AriasCombatSwordsKnight

Support I think it would be fun for people to check out some of our sister wikis. Most of them just aren't visited enough. Piety Sir Lenehan File:Smite old.png|25px 05:02, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Done - added collapsible links to the sidebar and made a new sister wikis section, collapsed by default. Skill 22:54, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

  • I can't figure out how to collapse them...
  1. REDIRECT User:C Teng/sig 01:00, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
    • If you click on the section titles "navigation", "community", or "sister wikis" they will change from collapsed to open or vice-versa. If the titles aren't links then do a hard refresh. Skill 01:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Wait, the collapse thing only works on MonoBook.
  1. REDIRECT User:C Teng/sig 13:55, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't like it anymore. It takes a couple oif seconds to become collapsible, block the search bar. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 08:25, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree. It takes up too much space on Quartz, and blocks the search bar on MonoBook.

RuneScape:Yew grove

Does anyone think that Runescape:Yew grove should be added? I think there should be a link to it somewhere.

Personal sidebar

Is it possible to create your own version of the sidebar in userspace, like many people have done with certain skins? I've only seen it done with .css pages and .js pages. How do you do it with this page? Dtm142 22:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Yew Grove

The Yew Grove is capitalized. Someone change that. User:C Teng/sig 14:08, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Okay, Skill fixed it. But community portal should be Community Portal. User:C Teng/sig 23:24, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Sidebar isn't showing correctly

No one has edited the sidebar code but it's showing incorrectly. There's fewer options than there should be and they don't expand. Maybe someone with Admin abilities could check of any of this applies to the problem. --  Nequillim  T C E   21:18, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

I made a null (blank) edit, and it is working for now. I think what happened is the cache got messed up, because as I was going through pages, the sidebar slowly expanded. PTDMYBucket detailrwojy 21:29, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

Content removed?

Why were the "Content" links removed? User:Azliq7 02:41, January 28, 2013 (UTC)

I personally thought (as did Joeytje50) that the links were superfluous for monobook users, as it seems to only take up extra space and seems outdated (I use monobook too, so I'm not trying to torment monobook users). Though, if it were to be updated regularly, like the Oasis navigation, I would find it better for monobook users, and new monobook users (though that just may be my view on the subject).
