This talk page is for discussing the MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation page.

What's the point of this MediaWiki page when it uses the same information as [[MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar]]? Ryan PM 01:33, August 16, 2010 (UTC)

Nevermind. It's not the same "sidebar." Ryan PM 22:37, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

This is how that page should be laid out (since few ever read MediaWiki talk pages, I might as well post it here due to the protection of said page). There are a few links that I thought might be nice to have and some you can switch with another (like RS:PDDA), but further sub-links (more than two asterisks) don't work. I'm not to sure whether I can clarify why this is what it is or should be (NDA). Ryan PM 16:42, September 17, 2010 (UTC)

I was bold and added in now, since it was bugging me too. As far as I am aware, Wikia haven't released any extra customisation notes for Oasis, so short of asking them why we'll have to wait. I'll leave this here for extra feedback on what links should/shouldn't be there. Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 16:55, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. But this is what I could come up with after seeing what the restrictions were. We may want to ask User:toughpigs for some click-tracking data or possibly add Special:Randomincategory/Skills or something similar if it would increase clicks rather than Special:Randompage. Even though it's not on their and not needed, but just a thought. Other things that could be done is re-arranging the links if ranking is an issue. Ryan PM 17:12, September 17, 2010 (UTC)

I think User help would be a better link than admin requests. Simply because more requests can be solved by us users. 222 talk 02:15, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

I added RS:UH to the list. I added it right above RS:AR Having it in lieu of RS:AR isn't a good idea. --LiquidTalk 02:19, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Didn't you stop to think why I had a max of 7 sub-links? You bumped off Off-site now. Remove one of the links and keep this for future reference. Thanks. Ryan PM 03:24, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Take out "** RuneScape:Requests for adminship | Requests for adminship" as maybe one a month doesn't really need a link if it shoves something else off. Full slayer helmet Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon platebody 03:38, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Or remove that and another link, reorganize the priority (Administrator requests before User help) and add Featured articles, albeit most of those links are already within the Community link (Community Portal). I actually wanted to do more, but couldn't think of a proper fourth column, so Policies was as good as any. On a final note, we could figure whether we should keep Skills as a single heading with three subnavs or make it one if we find otherwise. It was the best I could come up with. Now as for the 4x7 restriction, we could from time to time tact another link to Skills or remove PDDA for something such as the Surveys. Just thinking out loud. Ryan PM 04:04, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Ok, how about you give me a list of steps to do? I really don't care what gets removed, since I didn't like the new sidebar to begin with and I'm still using the old sidebar. Just tell me what you want on the sidebar. --LiquidTalk 19:37, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Psycho has already done it. I'm just waiting on Wikia (at this point I am beginning to doubt it) to allow personal Wiki-navigations. Best thing to do it just wait and ask for Danny for that click-tracking data. I'm not sure if I had already said this, but I personally prefer links descend according to their use and name length (didn't think about RS:UH at all) when possible. Another thing that could be done is have a YG topic about what should be a heading (as Skills doesn't take all that many links) and what to populate it with while leaving two blank for future use, such as the Surveys from time to time. Maybe Content, but that could also be argued for the Guides and as stated earlier, Policies was only put in to create a fourth heading and to prevent -or attempt to- the denial of not knowing some of the most cited policies on the wiki. As a final word, policies would remain one of the least clicked among that list as most users and readers would care little for it (so says Danny). If you can think of a better list or better policies to replace PDDA, it's your choice. However, you probably won't see this in use until late October to mid December on this wiki. Hope I didn't ramble. Ryan PM 02:34, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Why is it that under Skills it says Non-member instead of Free-to-Play? And secondly, why is it the links under the F2P and P2P links lead to the pages about the type, instead of a list of the skills available. It's kind of misleading. User:TyA/sig 01:49, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

I used the template as it was under [[MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar]] and thought nothing of it. Non-member just sounds better in my opinion and my bad on the links. Ryan PM 02:34, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

CVU

We need a link to the CVU in it, maybe get rid of wiki post or off-site features. Hunter cape (t) Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask 08:54, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Off-site and Wiki post should be kept as they are used more often while RFA isn't needed as it isn't frequently used and User help should be re-titled to User-to-user help to make it more clear as what it does (and to lengthen the name on the subnav). Albeit it really isn't a community function but rather a Help and such is not needed. Either remove the RFA link or replace it over the PDDA, the former being more preferable and thus putting CVU below the Administrator requests. Ryan PM 04:17, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Keeping with Wikia's new style. Are we trying to make this idiot-proof? 222 talk 04:19, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Possibly, but we want to maximize the usage of the limited 4 headings and 7 sub-links per heading. Ryan PM 05:24, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Now if anything should be changed, it should only be the Gielinor heading and the subnavs. I have left it at four for possible future use (We could tact RS:SURVEY on there from time to time). If possible, add-on to the first tab and continue to revise it to give it a better feel for the appreciation of the history of Gielinor and dedication to some of the lores within the game. Ryan PM 07:10, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Drop the wiki post, no one uses it. Move policies to the former post slot. Now we have seven slots for more Runescape topics, which is why people are here.--

I've been pondering why to really fill that slot and nothing comes to mind that isn't redundant. Minus the fact that The Guides heading leads users and readers to a much longer list of further guides, some policies should be made clear. As well, while we only need the Community heading and the seven sub-navs, I'd rather not redirect users to some short articles (such as Races) but rather maybe a whole header and subnavigation completely based off of Special:Randomincategory/____ to increase clicks such as Skills, Quests, Armour, Non-player characters, Races, Bestiary, and Spells but no Randompage as it is already part of that header (see Wikia Staff Blogs). Maybe, but while I thought about RuneScape, it sounded redundant in my mind due to it being just right of the logo. It's alright. However, I prefer not listing an article almost taken word-for-word from Wikipedia. Ryan PM 22:53, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
Could an admin implement these changes now? Thanks. Ryan PM 05:29, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
