Are you per chance Proofreader77 on Wikimedia? Just randomly curious. Thanks,

About A filereader Edit

I was wondering, could you maybe make a bot to do the stuff mentioned in Forum:Filenames too? If you could, that would be awesome. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 11:05, November 3, 2011 (UTC)

You can move files if you have the Custodian right, but if you propose a filemove bot on the yew grove, you will certainly get that right for your bot to be able to do it. If you want to be able to check what the API files look like with the right to move files, you can use my test wiki, at which you can now browse API files that require the right to move files. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 08:53, November 4, 2011 (UTC)
About protecting it, it could easily be protected from any edits by users without the required rights by making an abusefilter that prevents users without custodian, admin or bureaucrat rights from editing it. And the specifications for the filemove bots should probably be that it moves the file from the one title to the other, for example letting people put a line with *File:Caek.PNG|File:Cake.png|Joeytje50 on the requests page, to make your bot move File:Caek.PNG to File:Cake.png, with "Consistency for files, requested by Joeytje50" as move reason (and "Updating filelinks" as summary when editing pages to update the links to the file). Does that sound like something you could make? Oh, and if your bot would be able to get the user's username from the page history instead of needing the user to put his username in it himself, that would be even better, but if not, that's fine too.

Per discussion, you have the green flag to create the bot. Please make sure to add an appropriate entry to RS:BOTLIST. When you are ready, ask a bureaucrat to grant you the bot rights. --LiquidTalk 16:52, November 15, 2011 (UTC)

Re: PNGOptimisationBot Edit

Hi, i like your bot, however, i see it is currently in the process of optimizing the GEMH images (which are of course regularly updated via yet another bot). Could you tweak it to skip those images? just a thought ... User:Kytti khat/sig 13:05, November 21, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I would really like if you stop "optimising" GEMH/GEMV images, since they are already optimised before uploading. User:Azliq7 01:41, November 25, 2011 (UTC)
Can you show me some examples? The filesize changes were minimal if you ask me. User:Azliq7 04:02, November 25, 2011 (UTC)
LOL. I realise that in order to reduce 1kb (at most) you just increased the server load by 5kb... just saying, maybe you should skip all images which are less than 5-10kb, since load times will be fast anyway... you should focus more on the bigger files... something you might want to consider for the next run!
But anyways... I just wanted to applaud you for running this huge task with your bot, it is really beneficial for the wiki... 44,000 files is a lot, WOW! Smile User:Azliq7 06:18, November 25, 2011 (UTC)

PNGBot Edit

Hi Proofreader. Is it possible for your bot to only upload an image if it compresses it by a certain amount or percentage. For example, it didn't lower much on File:Goblin potion (4).png or File:Cook (Jolly Boar Inn) location.png and on files like these it only clutters up the history. I'm sure that there must be many other examples too. Thanks, ɳex undique 03:29, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

Can you increase it to like 25% or 30% or something? In cases like those, it doesn't do any good at all. ɳex undique 03:36, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, then is there any way to change the percentage based on the file's beginning size? Or does it have to be uniform throughout. ɳex undique 03:53, November 22, 2011 (UTC)
Well, it was worth a try =P ɳex undique 04:01, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

PNGBot File List Edit

Hey A proofreader, can you show me what code you use to get the list of all images on the wiki for your PNGbot? Can't easily find it in your source code. I've been having a little trouble trying while trying to parse the HTML version of Special:ListFiles. For some reason, it stops reading somewhere in the middle. Example, if I set it to parse the first 500 images sorted by name it stops with "". Set for 50, it stops at "1060_-_Highest_Seen_Meelee_Hi" Every other one before that works perfectly. To get the file name, I'm searching for "a href="/wiki/File:" and then get the name by taking whatever is before the next ". I have no clue why it just stops randomly. I was hoping that I could either use your code to accomplish get the list of files or figure out why my code just stops. Thanks.User:Guthix1110/Signature 22:09, November 23, 2011 (UTC)

Bot Edit

Hey, I saw your recently made bot, and I thought that you may be able to help me (it's for a different wiki). We will soon introduce a sig policy similar to the one here in that all sigs must be templates, and not just raw code. Is it possible to make a bot that will go around pages and replace the raw code with the templates after the policy has been enforced? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer me. Clan hiscore scraper Edit

Bot specification:

  • Once every arbitrary time period (lets say every week, for now), the bot should visit here (and all other pages, parameter pageNum= in the url)
  • It should get the users name and their current total experience number
  • It should visit here and update the table, of which the format is something like:
Clanmate 3 checks ago 2 checks ago Last check Current check Difference
Gaz Lloyd 0 1,000,000 2,000,000 2,500,000 +2,500,000
    • Move each user's data from the last check one check week back, put their new data into "current check", work out difference between the new "this check" and the new "last check", put that in "difference" (make sure there's a space between | and +)
  • Repeat for all users in the clan
  • Additional things:
    • I'm sure you're aware of new members joining all the time, so it needs to be able to handle adding new members
    • Also the occasional time a member leaves
    • Also it is possible to drop exp - if a member leaves and rejoins their exp is reset
    • Posting the date (and time maybe) onto the page stating when the last check was (or several were) would be nice
    • Listing new users to the list, and users missing from the list (either in a new section, or in the log).
    • If it errors somewhere, have it post the error to the log, with the message
      • If it is only an error with one user, continue with the next user if possible
      • If it is an error with say the website being inaccessible, retry later (with a maximum of say 3 retries)
      • If an error on the wiki's page, stop (e.g. page blanked or whatever)
  • Log to the talk page

Make me a bot for frost dragons! Edit

Just kidding.

I would be interested in graphs that chart the xp required for any given rank in all the skills. That would mean scraping the highscores data and plotting them. I don't know anything about making bots so I don't know how substantial that task would be. So maybe only the top X% we could use. Is this something you could do/would be willing to do?

Ditto, ditto. Smithing (talk | contribs) 03:18, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
Hi. I was just wondering, if you do make this bot, would it be possible to also grab the reason that the moderator gave for banning and include that in the summary of them getting unbanned. Currently, there's no comprehensive way to see an account's chat ban history, and to do so you have to go through their talk page and look for {{BFC}} messages that are there. And if the cmod didn't speicify a reason when posting on their talk, you have to go through the history of RS:CHAT/B and find the edit that has the same time as the message posted on their talk. If your bot was able to place the ban reason in the summary, it would make it able to see the full ban history of someone at one glance, which would be extremely helpful when banning repeat offenders. Cheers.
  1. REDIRECT User:-Matt/sig 21:15, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
That would probably be very useful indeed. What kind of user-rights reason should be used? Something like "(Automated) Remove expired ban made by [[Special:Contributions/TheModInQuestion|TheModInQuestion]] (Original reason)" ?  a proofreader ▸  21:25, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
I don't think you have to include (automated), as long as you have "bot" somewhere in the username it should be fine. Wink But yeah, maybe something like Ban made by TheModInQuestion has expired. (reason) or something.
  1. REDIRECT User:-Matt/sig 21:30, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
It'd be easier in terms of searching through ban history to just have a subpage that lists all previous bans with all the info contained on the RS:C/B page. So when the ban expires, a bot could just remove that ban and move the information about the banned user from the bans page to another page which logs previous bans. Suppa chuppa Talk 21:34, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
I see in Special:Log/rights that you can't look at chat bans made on a certain user, only by a certain (chat mod) user. Is this what you mean? And does User:Matthew2602 know something you don't about getting a list of bans made on a certain user?  a proofreader ▸  21:38, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
It's the other way around. You can only see bans made on a user. Suppa chuppa Talk 21:40, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
