Thieves' Guild caper series navboxEdit

I saw your recent rework of Thieves' Guild caper series. I wanted to tell you that that particular navbox was for the series that's why it only mentioned the quest and the capers. The quest and each caper should get their own navbox. Also don't forget to remove _ in all links, they're not needed. Nice work though :) I reverted this navbox and added your additions to seperate navboxes: Buyers and Cellars, , , and . Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 22:10, August 21, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the help Salix, just getting back into this after a long break, so any help/advice you can provide is great! Baby Quest point cape notnice 23:41, August 21, 2015 (UTC)
No problem :) Also when you reply to people you should write the reply on their talkpage, not everyone reads the talkpage they write on, and when someone writes on their talkpage they get a notification. I don't mind, I follow alot of talk pages, but people find it easier that way. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 00:03, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
I'd say, welcome the template team :). I've been doing the same thing (I'm the one who added those to the list, because the list was empty). And I'm also a programmer :). Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 00:25, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
Additional lists? Can't think of any at the moment, but Scuzzy's list isn't done yet :P. You could look for categories without a navbox, like Category:Witches. You could also add all keys that are in Category:Keys that are not yet on Template:Keys to it. It might be inefficient, but I can't think of other stuff that would need a navbox. I've been contributing to the navboxes on the release day of updates for a while now and I like that, but to each their own.
Nice work btw on the new navboxes, just a few comments:
  • Don't forget to remove the category of the quest at the end of the page after adding its navbox. See this.
  • Also the order at the end of the page is always: (See above link)
    • Navboxes
    • Languagelinks
    • Categories
  • Also don't add individual quest navboxes to the series, the series already has a navbox containing a link to each quest and that suffices.
  • Also if a quest belongs to multiple series, you don't have to add multiple groups (e.g. group1, group2), just one suffices and split the different series by adding <br /> between them like IP83 did here.
  • Also don't forget to edit the plurality (not sure if that's word) of words, e.g. change 'Enemies' to 'Enemy' if there's only one enemy, same goes for location(s), item(s), and reward(s). See this.

Actually IP83 fixed the most, I just reviewed/fixed some stuff. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 18:21, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

Quest navboxesEdit

Remember to use the following template when making these quest navboxes:

Quest name

Ofcourse remove the unused groups and for more info see QuestProject. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 23:07, August 21, 2015 (UTC)

Quest name categoryEdit

What are you trying to accomplish with the category that is being added to many pages such as Duke Horacio? Yayepicyay (talk) 02:00, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

I assume it was an oversight, the Death to the Dorgeshuun template had Quest name. Fixed now Star Talk Star sprite 02:04, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
You would be correct, Star, that is exactly what happened. I just overlooked that when creating the template. It's a bit mind-numbing, so thanks for catching it Yayepicyay. Baby Quest point cape notnice 02:07, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

Quest locationsEdit

Hey, can you avoid adding quest navboxes to location pages that aren't really quest specific. For example, Lumbridge Castle should not have gotten a navbox because it's just a location visited during the quest and nothing more. It has no strong ties, it wasn't introduced with any quest; it's just a normal place to go. Same thing goes with Dwarven Mine; it's just a place.

On the other hand, Lunar Isle definitely deserved the navbox you gave it. It's the entire focus of Lunar Diplomacy and its sequel Dream Mentor, and it was introduced with the quest, and it's the primary location where these quests take place.

You're doing a great job, I just want to fix this part before you do too much. MolMan 04:11, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

I personally would draw the line at when/how the location was introduced. For example, Varrock would not get any quest templates because it's a big city with a lot going on and isn't the focus of any one place. I would give Rellekka the template for The Fremennik Trials and maybe the The Fremennik Isles, but I wouldn't give it the templates for any of the other quests in the Fremennik quest series; that's just too many in my opinion. There are definitely some quest locations that could go either way, and I'll let you make that judgement call. I just don't want us ending up with dozens of tangentially related templates on a location just because it's visited once. MolMan 04:27, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Additional WorkEdit

You needn't worry about any additional work for me, I'm the resident nitpicker and simply cannot help myself. Salix7 has already mentioned everything that I can think of a bit higher up on the page; the only thing would be to not add empty new lines between the navboxes, interlang links and categories, and keep the navboxes above the interlang links. Great work so far. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 17:18, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

If you make a navbox for a quest with only NPCs (or enemies), you don't need to add them in a subnavbox. You can turn group1 into a normal group, as I did here. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 05:18, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
I do not believe there is a plinkp variant for chatl, the only way would be to manually include the icon and resize it. That said, only in rare cases are more than one image used per link in navboxes. Here, I'd pick the chathead of the version that is more prominent in the quest. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 05:48, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

NameEdit

You really don't need to add the 7, the only reason I added 7 because someone else already took Salix :(. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 01:26, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

You're going fuckin' ham on these quest navboxes! What is that, like 20 in the last day? Seriously impressive. ʞooɔ 07:31, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
I agree with Cook, you're doing an amazing job! Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 15:05, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
Just one little comment, please "the" before the name of the quest series. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 16:57, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
You can either add "?action=purge" to the URL or go to your preferences and tick off the box so you will see a date and time stamp above the Contribute button at the top of the page and when you click on that timestamp it will also purge the page. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 17:18, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
Pages are cached, it takes a while before they update transcluded templates themselves. Salix' method above works; another option is to 'install' the Mass Null Edit script and have that null-edit the pages linking to the Navbox. See User_talk:IP83.101.44.209/Archive_2#RE:_Purging for information/the link. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 17:21, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Mass NullEdit

Right now it is not possible to edit MediaWiki or js pages, due to several wikis being hacked a short while ago. Wikia initially disabled js and css, and has since re-enabled css completely, but locked the js and mediawiki pages from being edited by anyone other than staff and vstf. There's been no date announced for when they'll be editable again. Ducksoup (a staff member) said they're checking every js page on every wiki first. That's quite a task. Small recharge gem AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 17:46, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Looks like Ansela beat me to it, and my apologies, I completely forgot about JS pages being locked at the moment. I'm afraid you will have to purge or null-edit pages one by one manually at this time, if you want them to update immediately. (Btw, purging or null-editing pages is also the way to go if you ever come across an article that is completely blank). Otherwise, just wait a day, and to my knowledge, the cache should have refreshed itself by then. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:00, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
I wouldn't worry about the "the" all that much. Soon the caches will invalidate themselves and it will be corrected automatically. Without the tool to help you (or a bot), I wouldn't bother for this small difference. If you really really want to, the best current method I can think of would be to use something like the Greasemonkey plugin (a FireFox plugin), to execute JavaScript on the relevant Special:WhatLinksHere pages, turning all links into purge links ("?action=purge"), and then opening them en masse in new tabs. Let the tabs load, close them all, and done. But that still seems overkill and a lot of manual labour for a change this small. As for when the JS will be back... the incident was two weeks ago now, so who knows... IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:15, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
I don't really know, but my guess would be one day. If you want to be sure, User:Cqm is the resident Wikia specialist. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:26, August 23, 2015 (UTC)
I don't believe there's a definite value for how long page caches take to be updated when a template used in said page is updated, it's very much dependent on what tasks are already in the job queue (the mechanism that handles updating page caches amongst other tasks). It's shared across all Wikia wikis, which caused an issue last week when a wiki edited a very high use template and the job queue got overloaded.
On the plus side, page caches are meant to be updated every 24 hours anyway. There's a couple of blogs that go into the process in more depth if you're interested: w:User blog:Wade Warren/How we deliver pages to you!, w:User blog:TOR/Caching Explained. I'm not 100% sure how it all works paired with the job queue, but sooner or later it should fix itself :) User:Cqm/Signature
You could also just use that mass purge script through your console, although my understanding is that that script kind of sucks and doesn't actually update link tables. ʞooɔ 22:08, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Quest templates categoryEdit

Could you add the quest name without the article (a, an, the) in this: . This way the quest will be sorted in that category by name without the article (a, an, the). Keep up the good work! :) Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 22:28, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, should've been more specific. But I added some stuff to my Quest Project page. Could you read it and tell me if there's anything wrong with it? Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 23:23, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Navbox orderEdit

The idea is that the more specific navboxes come first. Template:Realms and Template:Undead for example contain dozens of articles, however, a specific article is more relevant in the quest they are part of. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:21, August 24, 2015 (UTC)

Abundance of linksEdit

I know it wasn't you who added all the links to it, but if you come across pages like Nature Spirit that are over-populated with links, removing the excess ones is often a good idea. Small recharge gem AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 15:51, August 25, 2015 (UTC)
