Sorry, but you were editing his userspace without any clear reason (eg., talk page discussions). Userpages belong to others, and we tend to get suspicious when other people change them. However, Man tag informed me of why you were doing it, and it's okay. Anyways, didn't mean to offend you. Cheers.

Elder Kiln images Edit

Hey, could you do me a favour and not add any more images to the Elder Kiln walkthrough just yet? It's hard to judge where images should go without text to accompany them, and it's hard to add text with loads of image code in the way, as you can't see what the images look like in the edit screen without wasting time loading the preview. Also, please take images in high detail mode, not low detail/safe mode. Small recharge gem AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 16:17, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

Your behavior on off-site features may affect your wiki account. Several people have been requesting a wiki block for you through different mediums (chat, irc, etc). You're a good editor, so I suggest you stop being inappropriate and grow up, otherwise you won't might not be able edit again. Review RS:UTP. I am not knowledgeable on it, you're right, but I don't need to be. Your responses are what they are. Unless they were in a joking manner in which everyone was on board, they are not appropriate. I don't know who the other "offending users" are. Nor do I care, if someone else saw what they said and deems it inappropriate they will handle it. All I saw was what you said, so I am warning you. I'm sorry to interject here, but as far as I'm aware breaking RS:UTP in inexcusable regardless of circumstance. Saying someone else did it too does not make it right. Nor does it take into account that the other user may have been warned through other channels.

Your Bot and br-tagsEdit

Why would you get your bot to change "<br />" to "<br>", essentially reverting to non XHTML compliant syntax? I'd find it much more logical to progtram your bot the other way around... IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 06:09, June 20, 2013 (UTC)

I was going to say exactly the same thing. Smile Rich Farmbrough, 16:47 20 June 2013 (UTC).
As discussed on his talk page the reasons, along with cåm requesting it to be added. It would put less stress on wikia's servers having to convert them since it does in the PHP source. After a lot of digging (there's a reason we can't find this in Wikia's repo), I discovered why I was seeing unescaped tags when looking at the page source. In Chrome version 27, void tags, such as br, img and input, are not escaped. This is also true in version 21 of Firefox. Note, both of these are the latest stable releases of standards compliant browsers. However, when I compared the same page to the source seen on IE9 (I finally found a reason for it being installed), all void elements are escaped. Apparently it is up to the browser how the page is rendered. In summary, the bot altering the tags is technically correct, but actually has no effect on how the page is ultimately rendered.
  1. REDIRECT User:Cqm/Signature
I recommend removing the <br> rules from your bot, or changing them to convert to the format "<br />". After some testing and back-and-forth with Cåm, it is pretty clear that this item is not fixing an RTE error, but engaging in an automated form of edit warring. Here is what happens every time someone edits a page with the RTE, and it is subsequently retrieved by a browser:
  1. The RTE converts all break tags <br> → <br />
  2. Your bot converts all break tags <br /> → <br>
  3. On serving the page, wikia converts all break tags <br> → <br />
The whole back-and-forth is harmless, but also pointless— it adds entries to the changelog, but has no effect on the html source served up by wikia. Qloque (talk) 11:17, June 25, 2013 (UTC)
Note: when Cåm wrote “If you look at the page source where [self-closing] br tags have been used, the MediaWiki parser has converted them to <br>”, he (or she?) was not actually looking at the page source, but inspecting the local parse tree, which is not the same thing. The page source served by wikia always contains the six-character string <br />.

BotEdit

Can you modify the regex in your bot for these:

  • color:(.*); - I need it to avoid any and all hexadecimal colors (hopefully 'color:([^#].*);' could cover that or w/e) as those are never used by rte and thus intentional. I also need it to avoid basic color names like 'red', 'yellow', 'green', etc. It doesn't need to avoid black because that's redundant, it can probably also remove those colors if there is other gibberish characteristic of the RTE (like line-height).
  • font-family:(.*?); - I need it to avoid changing anything that is one of our RuneScape font families. Template:RSFont exists if you'd like to code a replace specifically for that.

MolMan 14:13, June 22, 2013 (UTC)

On another note, this change; shouldn't the anchor part of an url contain the underscore rather than a space? And would it be possible, when fixing links that start/end with a space, to only add the space in front/behind if there is not already a space there? Now it is creating double spaces (even if strictly they were there before the edit as well). IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 19:09, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

I will try and get something coded in for double spaces. However mediawiki parses it as 1 space on output :) Also, anchor's don't need underscores :) Custodian crownCblair91User crown (9 more options)  Choose OptionUser Cblair91Talk to Cblair91Contributions Cblair91Achievements Cblair91Sandbox Cblair91Slayer LogSqueel of Fortune LogDaily Challenge LogMy Pages 20:42, June 25, 2013 (UTC)
Anchors do need underscores. Its wikilinks which don't need them, as wikia converts spaces to underscores when converting the links to html anchor tags :-) Qloque (talk) 13:47, June 26, 2013 (UTC)
Anchors do not need underscores in wikilinks is what he's saying. MolMan 18:42, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Another possible addition for table cleanup:

!'''(.*)'''      ->      ! $1

unless we have table formats where <th> doesn't already bold the text (didn't notice any in a quick scan of common.css). Qloque (talk) 12:20, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

And this change removed two <p> tags, but left a third in place. You might want to make the trailing semi-colon optional in your regex for <p style=…></p> tests. Qloque (talk) 12:31, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Also adding this, some people use the additional spaces to align the parameters of the template. Not sure whether we want that, but on the other hand, maybe we shouldn't remove those. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:51, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

There's no real benefit to that. It's an OCD thing and not really worthy of looking into a fix tbh. MolMan 18:55, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Would it be possible to run your script twice per page, or continuously until nothing changes (before submitting)? This, for example, would under normal circumstances remove the unneeded "link name", as it's the same as the actual link. I've also seen spaces being removed from link names, but then creating double spaces just outside the link. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:15, June 30, 2013 (UTC)

fix multi spacesEdit

The bot is eliminating multiple spaces that are not visual editor glitches. I've noticed it doing it in infoboxes, where multiple spaces are used to make maintenance clearer. The same could be said of tables, though I haven't seen it touch a table myself yet. It might be worthwhile to make the bot ignore multiple spaces in infoboxes and tables. It would be annoying to have an edit war with a bot.... --User:Saftzie/Signature 05:06, June 30, 2013 (UTC)

I personally dislike having multiple spaces in infoboxes, and I subscribe to the Allman style (so I do like indents and such). But I do remember that BrainBot at one point did remove most instances of multiple spaces from infoboxes. I think whatever is decided, it should be consistent. Suppa chuppa Talk 05:32, June 30, 2013 (UTC)
Multi spaces is just a visual thing when editing, when it's outputted by HTML it comes as a single space. So really It's not that needed when editing tbh. When writing computer code, software engineers have discovered that the prime consideration is almost always readability. Wiki-source is very similar (and arguably is) code, and readability is important. Please look for ways to limit the action of your bot to specifically those multi spaces that are introduced by the visual editor (or otherwise generally deprecated). Rich Farmbrough, 17:21 31 January 2014 (UTC).

If you care to send a code that'd detect as such, go ahead, but as far as I've noticed, none is possible. To avoid the current changes to infoboxes and French spacing you could perhaps use the substitution:
s/([^\|\.]) +([^=])/$1 $2/g
It would be useful however, if we could see some example of the glitch happening - and ideally a ref for the bug report (so we know when it is fixed). I have looked at a fair few Visual Editor edits, without seeing this or any other bug (using this recent changes list). Rich Farmbrough, 19:25 31 January 2014 (UTC).
It is NOT a VE bug, but it is a general issue with their being multiple spaces in articles and them parsing as a single space, so to save time and efficiency, it narrows it down to an output to save processing time. As Suppa said before, it should be a consistent area, and from most the edits I have seen in my time here, I notice that most people do not use the whole multi-space in infoboxes. It just helps make it more consistent but I do very much agree with visibility of code, but to me this doesn't make it less-visible. I suggest you disable that task then, unless there is consensus for it. Your bot has de-aligned hundreds and hundreds of infoboxes, destroying considerable effort put in by a significant number of people. It would be simple, of course, to use the reg-ex I provided not to do that, and a little refinement would remove other false positives too. Rich Farmbrough, 21:55 1 February 2014 (UTC).
