To keep consistency in navboxes and keep every icon adjacent to its relevant text, there should be no space between the file link and the page link. Having the causes text wrapping which can separate the two, which we don't want because it looks awkward and sloppy.

As an aside, the forum to link images in navboxes and tables but mainly navboxes was closed as preferring link= instead of the template. I don't see why there was any opposition honestly, and I've already made and implemented similarly purposed templates ({{UD}} and {{JagexWiki}}) without any discussion, and I haven't heard any fuss. That said I might just implement it anyways.

You probably don't care about that second part, but I noticed you've made a couple navboxes recently, which, like, no one does. I think that's pretty cool. If you're ever itching to make more, I have a couple listed here.

Also, thanks for fixing that little thing my bot did. I never took that into account... I'll have to make sure it didn't happen anywhere else now. MolMan 19:45, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

Well the template already has a second parameter to allow for an alternate name, and I was about to add a third to allow for a different name in the link. TyA cleared it up with me that he was just noting the preference. Since, that's crystal now... Screw preference leedle leedle. Thinking about what regexes I wanna use right now to make sure I cover everything... MolMan 20:07, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
I'm having my bot implement the link templates right now. It's making more mistakes than I expected it would. I'm keeping close watch of the edits and reverting anything that breaks the navboxes. I doubt I'll ever implement them by hand on the ones I'm reverting, so if you're interested in doing it, that'd be cool. If not, that's fine too. lel. MolMan 20:40, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
That'd be awesome. The list of templates that ɘ screwed up and I had to revert are listed here. I think for most of them, it's just one or two problem links that screwed up the whole thing. If you wanna save yourself some work, you can probably go to the oldid of the messed up revision and try to diagnose then fix the problem. MolMan 21:35, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
I assume you just mean alternate text? If so: done. If not: wat? MolMan 21:47, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
Hey, I've decided to go ahead and fix those templates myself, but thanks for being willing. Also, if there are images next to each other for the same link (link on Template:AlchemistAmulet), use {{plinkp}} to create a linked file without any text for the images that are not directly before the link. This will probably be the template used more often in tables on pages I bet too. MolMan 17:07, January 19, 2014 (UTC)
Out of random curiosity, how are you getting your list of pages to add navboxes to after creating the navbox? I have a special little DPL I like to use, maybe you'd like it. MolMan 22:06, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
I figured. I can give you a way that's slightly faster if you'd like. It also makes it easy to find pages you may have accidentally missed without realizing it. MolMan 22:15, February 1, 2014 (UTC)

This will remove them from the recent changes when 'hide minor edits' is enabled, which is primarily used for watching for vandalism. If you don't want to tick minor edits on each save, you can change it so that your edits are pre-ticked as minor through your editing preferences. Thanks! Re: Quest navboxEdit

An alphabetical order is an order people can understand by viewing the listed items. Another order looks like disorder unless you know what it was sorted by. "The order in which they are encountered in the quest" is one perhaps logical order, but just as valid would be sorting by "the importance of the article in the quest"; neither are clear when you view the list, however. I suggest using subgroups if you want to logically group related items (e.g. rewards vs items used during the quest, or a group of items that are near identical such as canopic jar variants or golden bowls with water). IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 17:34, July 29, 2015 (UTC)

May I ask why you are removing the defaultsort from articles? That is the proper way to sort pages of which the name starts with an article. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 17:54, July 29, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Code styleEdit

Please see this. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 16:46, August 7, 2015 (UTC)

The main reason is what Mol said on my talk page, however I see no reason to handle these parameters differently from all other block-style parameters. Consistency is the main target of standardising the wiki code style. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 17:12, August 7, 2015 (UTC)

If your argument is helping others read the code, I don't see how (not) having a trailing space impacts that. Only recently with the addition of syntax highlighting in source edit mode are they even somewhat visible. The guidelines are rather simple at the moment, having a space before and after the '=' in block-style templates in all cases; which is why the exception to the trailing space guideline specifically for these. Now you suggest turning it into "No trailing spaces, except for one following the '=' in a block-style template, unless that parameter value is not empty/starts on the next line". This adds another exception to an exception, making the guidelines more complicated.

As for keeping "|gtitle1 =" when there is no title: there is no precedent for this. No other template includes parameters if they remain unused. There is a very big visual difference between giving a title to a group in a navbox and not doing so, which is equally clear in the source code when the parameter is or is not present. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:23, August 8, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I do believe that including unused parameters clutters the source code needlessly. Navboxes have a good amount of documentation, including copy-paste-able stubs for a new navbox that includes all parameters. There is no need to include empty parameters in existing navboxes to teach how the template can be used, if it isn't in that instance. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 04:54, August 8, 2015 (UTC)
I see the issue with the navbox you linked to, but I do not see how it is greatly 'problematic'. Yes, of course, the first group should be inside the subnavbox instead of outside it, and I am aware that there is a visual (padding and such) difference. I don't, however, view it as a problem any larger than people still using {{#expr:...}} inside a {{Coins}} template: it's just something to correct/clean up whenever you come across it. If it is one user that has done it a few times, tell them. Having the empty title parameter there might, but not necessarily will, avoid this from happening, and in other cases it still clutters the code.
My goal is consistency, as opposed to using consistency as a means to another goal. Yes, I know Mol's opinion on that already, but things that do not conform to the standard automatically irk me, as do exceptions. I am aware that following a set of rules isn't always the best option, however I will still argue for consistency instead of handling a situation differently. As for the style I decided to enforce: it is based on what I saw during my time here that is considered an implicit standard, e.g. if most infoboxes (or templates for that matter) do not have a space following the "|", then remove these spaces in the templates that do have them. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 03:46, August 9, 2015 (UTC)

Linking the different tins. This isn't strictly like a disambiguation, I believe it is more useful to have a general overview of all the tins here, because otherwise the progression of items gets lost and becomes confusing.

I feel like you wrote that specifically for me. If I thought it should be a disambiguation I probably would have made it one. But I didn't. MolMan 12:49, August 30, 2015 (UTC)

Re: new chatl thingEdit

I agree that a NPC should get one standard chathead, but they will still have other chatheads which is the reason I thought of that new chatl template in the first place, e.g. all the zombie chatheads from New Varrock. I thought it'd be easier to just type the additional information instead of typing the complete file name. It was just an idea that I thought could be helpful, if it isn't it can be removed again. Anyways, I agree the files should be just moved. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:26, September 2, 2015 (UTC)

And if it's confusing, it could be renamed to something else, more clear. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:28, September 2, 2015 (UTC)
I didn't think about the automation of file moves, that'd make it trickier for that indeed. About the confusion, I thought you meant chatl/chatlm (the shortened versions of those template names). Anyways, you're right, they should get named params as well. The params "pic" and "txt" would fit perfectly and are more descriptive than "alt". I would however suggest to throw this into Yew Grove, because last time I tried to add something I thought was very usefull, I had to remove it again and when I threw that into YG, it got rejected. Anyways, let other people know too. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 19:30, September 4, 2015 (UTC)

Quest navboxEdit

What do you think of this quest navbox template? Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:54, December 24, 2015 (UTC)

1. Can you give me an example of an alternative group title that could be used instead of the ones used now and why that title would be better in that case?
2. I don't really see what you mean with use cases, the template covers all possible use cases (series, npcs, enemies, items, scenery, rewards, locations, music tracks, historic and related for the left overs that don't fit anywhere else). And if a quest would have something completely new, it can always be added to the quest navbox.
3. It's still flexible, all but the series group can have subgroups. The titles mentioned in point 1 are standardised for consistency. And possible new groups can be added as mentioned in point 2. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 23:10, December 24, 2015 (UTC)
We actually do, all quests have those components that are included. Footer and the ability to override the group titles have been added although I don't see why you would ever want to add a different title for any of the groups. Anyway if you read it, you would understand it too, it's really easy to understand. I even added alot of commentary to make it more readable and a lengthy documentation page explaining it all. And it's not to complicate things, it's just to standardise the quest navboxes. But if the latest additions or this message don't persuade you, then I'll put the template back to user space and (partially)* revert the quest navboxes that use it now. Such a waste though...
*Partially, because I also regrouped some stuff within some quest navboxes after changing it from navbox to quest navbox. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 19:11, December 25, 2015 (UTC)
I don't see that potential of added maintenance. The opposite is the case because the quest navbox does a lot of stuff underwater, so editors won't have to do that over and over and over and over again. It's a template so if it gets changed on the template it will be changed everywhere else, instead of editing over 200 templates. So should I or should I not bring it back to user space? Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 19:30, December 27, 2015 (UTC)
I don't see limits, I see a standard that all quest navboxes comply to already. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 12:29, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

RE: Quest navbox "enemies"Edit

NPCs does sound better, but some were using personalities before so I picked that one when I standardised them all. About enemies, I split those off because they are a seperate group, granted they are NPCs, but I feel that we don't need a second level within a group if it could be a seperate group instead. Same goes for rewards, which are not always items. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 01:16, January 10, 2016 (UTC)

What I meant was that I agreed, NPCs sounds better, which is why I have been replacing Personalities with NPCs. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 03:04, January 10, 2016 (UTC)
