|3,306,100 per hour|
5,040 x Steam runes (3,780,000)
The profit rate assumes 60 trips per hour (60 second trips from water altar, minus some time to renew summoning points at an altar). Your actual profit rate may be higher or lower depending on your speed.
Crafting steam runes may be incredibly profitable. Their price, however, is fairly unstable and profit rates can change quickly and drastically.

As of the Shattered Worlds update, it may be most efficient to use the bank there, since the bank is just several steps away from the Water Altar. To begin, start at the bank in the Shattered Worlds lobby, fill your pouches, familiar, and Infinity outfit if you have those. Players can add the pouches to their action bar to help maximise efficiency. Pouches and the Infinity set can also be filled while the bank is open using the right-click option on each pouch and right-clicking the torso of the Infinity outfit. A preset can be used to quickly fill your familiar and remaining inventory space. Note that having full pouches in a preset will not automatically refill them when reloading that preset. Run north-west to the Water Altar and enter. Once inside, cast Magic Imbue, and craft your steam runes. All of the essences stored in the pouches, the familiar's inventory, and the essence stored in the Infinity torso will be extracted, so you do not need to empty them. You may then exit the altar, and run back to the bank within the Shattered Worlds lobby.
If you're using the Repair Rune Pouch spell, cast it every 50 trips. If you're using the NPC Contact spell, cast it every ninth trip.
It is also possible to use greater runic staff and charge it with Magic Imbue to store one more pure essence, thus crafting one more steam rune per trip. Alternatively, the astral runes required for magic imbue can be stored in a large rune pouch and then equipped. In addition, Massive pouches can be used to store an additional 17 essences per trip.
If you have Teleport Tokens for your wicked hood, you can teleport to the Water Altar with your wicked hood. You will have a limited but generous number of these per day which can also increase output and profit if utilised.
A test run with 62 summoning and 80 magic. A player who runecrafts regularly shares the math behind this money making method:
688*64= 44032 Assuming steam rune costs 688 gp.
1 Binding neck charge = 134 gold (Assuming 1 15 charge binding necklace is 2010 gp)
1 fire talisman = 1318 gp
44032-134-1318 = 42580
64 fire runes = 6784 (1 fire rune 106gp)
42580 - 6784 = 35796 That's money per run.
For me it takes 24 seconds to do a run. (Assuming very good PC specs and 0 ping)
That's 150 runs per hour.
100 runs per 40 minutes. 200 runs per 80 mins. (I chose these intervals of time, because an abyssal lurker lasts 40 mins)
Meaning 3579600 (3,58m) per 40 minutes. 7,16m per 80 minutes. Per 1 hour that's 5369400 (5,37m)
12800 fire runes to use per 80 mins = 1,35m 6400 fire runes per 40 mins
14 binding necklaces used per 80 mins = 28,1k 7 binding necklaces per 40 mins
200 fire talismans used per 80 mins = 263,6k 100 fire talismans per 40 mins
Making 12800 steam runes per 80 mins = 8,806000m 6400 steam runes per 40 mins.
Equaling to 688*12800 = 8,806000 - 1,356800 - 28100 - 263600 = 7,16m per 80 mins
Without taking the materials cost into account 8,806000m per 80 mins or 4,4m per 40 mins----
It is strongly recommended to check the live prices on the Grand Exchange before making large investments in any method.
