Opal bolts are bronze bolts tipped with opal bolt tips. They can be created with 11 Fletching. For each opal bolt tip attached to a bronze bolt, a player is granted 1.6 Fletching experience. Once the opal bolt tips have been attached, the bronze bolts become opal bolts, and the process can not be reversed.

Opal bolts can be enchanted through the spell Enchant Crossbow Bolt (Opal) by a player with level 4 Magic. The spell enchants 10 opal bolts at a time, and once they are enchanted they become enchanted opal bolts and gain a special ability, known as "Lucky Lightning". This enchantment causes extra damage to the opponent by hitting them with lightning.
