The Ornate katana is a vanity item offered as an occasional in-game benefit from RuneScape Game Cards. Currently, this item can only be obtained by players in the United States and the United Kingdom who purchase a 90 day membership card from GameStop (in the US) or GAME and GameStation (in the UK) . The item will be found in players' banks, and if they don't have enough space, Diango will give it to them. If it is lost, it can be reclaimed from Diango. The katana can be kept after the subscription has ended, but it is members-only.[1]
This is the second item which can only be obtained by paying money (after the Flagstaff of festivities). The ornate katana becomes available for players in the United States and the United Kingdom who purchase the 90 day membership card between 20 June and 10 July 2011 for the USA and 8th until 31st of July 2011 for the UK. According to the Update FAQ, the katana will also be used for other promotions. Its stats are identical to those of the Iron 2h sword, though it has the same attack styles as a longsword.
