Overload is a potion made using the Herblore skill. A Herblore level of 96 is required to create this potion. You will receive 1000 herblore experience for making this potion. You can check Calculators/Extreme potions for updated price per experience.

The five extreme potions (3-dose only) and a clean torstol are the ingredients required to create this potion. This potion cannot be made with assistance. The combined cost of overload from scratch is Expression error: Unexpected < operator. coins. Four empty vials will be left over afterward.

When consumed, overload gives the stat effects of the extreme attack, extreme strength, extreme defence, extreme magic and extreme ranging potions combined, but only for a total of five minutes. This boost is repeated every 15 seconds during the 5 minutes, so if a player's stats are below their normal value (such as after drinking Saradomin brew), then they will reach the maximum boosted values after sufficient 15 second periods.

These boosts allow players to reach previously unseen level highs of 125 Attack, Strength, Defence, and 122 Ranged all at once with starting skill levels of 99.

As a side effect, players will receive a total damage of 500 but divided into five equal parts (100 per second for the first 5 seconds). This damage can be healed immediately using food.

Overload also gives the player a 7 level boost in magic which gives 3% extra magic damage for every level boost. This stacks with the extra 5-20% boost from certain magical staves, Dungeoneering reward amulets and that of Hexcrest.

When the potion wears off, the player's stats will return to normal and players will regain 500 life points too (if not already healed).

Tips: Overload is often used in conjunction with Saradomin brew or if the player decides to hybrid with their attacks. Players using only one combat style often use the extreme potions instead, because the benefit of the other potions is partially wasted in a sense. But it can be very much worth it because the level continuously is boosted to the max, and does not go down one level a minute as with extremes.

Trivia

  • When first released, the Overload could be used in PvP situations, but within 48 hours, this was changed so they cannot be used in any PvP situation, dangerous or safe, however as of 17 November 2009 Overload along with all other untradeable potions can be used in safe PvP activities.
  • According to Jagex, it "racks the body with spasms and burns the digestive tract".
  • The Overload potion has great potential when used with Dharok's, where all of the players levels are boosted, and life points are decreased by 500, increasing the strength of the user even more, makes a max hit of 1500 under perfect circumstances.
  • If a player's stats are below normal after an overload has been drunk, it will only boost the players stats by the maximum it can. (5-26 levels) So, if a player drinks multiple Saradomin brews, the player's stats will only go up by 5-26 levels (Max stats are 125 with a 99 and 126 with a skill cape boost.) But if the player's stats are lowered to 55, after 15 seconds, the player's stats will be at 81, not 125.
  • If a player with less than 500 life points attempts to drink overload, the game will give them the message "You need more than 500 life points to survive the power of overload."
  • Before 5 July 2010, the Overload effect remained regardless if you died with overloads, or left an activity arena such as finishing a war in Clan Wars or ending a duel in Duel Arena. This gave players the advantage of not having to 're-pot' over and over. There is still some speculation as to whether this was a bug or not, since other potions like Anti-Fires and certain Anti-Poisons effects remain after death. These potions are not stat-boosting which may be the reason why overload was changed, to resemble their counterpart.
