The Parlour in a player-owned house is one of the only two types of rooms a player can build starting at level 1 Construction. Every player's first house starts with this room and a garden. Building this room will cost the player 1,000 coins.

This room is initially for low-level training, and later its main useful item are bookcases. Utilising bookcases save bank space as every reference book unlocked by the player can be stored making it readily accessible by players. This means that books held in the bank are no longer needed. However, once a study or a quest Hall is built, these rooms also contain bookshelves and therefore the parlour can be removed without loss of utility, especially if players are short of rooms. The only other practical use for a parlour is the experience gained from lighting a fire in the fireplace.

Material for most objects can be bought from shops run by suppliers such as Construction Supplies (run by the Sawmill operator in Varrock) and Keldagrim Stonemason (run by the Stonemason in Keldagrim).

Chairs

There are 3 hotspots for building chairs. Sitting on any of the chairs does not regenerate run energy faster. All chairs can be made as flatpacks in a player-owned workshop.

Bookcases

Bookcases can be used to browse through all the books players have unlocked during their adventures. Each bookcase can store the same number of books, regardless of type. All bookcases can be made as flatpacks in a player-owned workshop.
