This guide will help you train Crafting in various different ways, from level 1 to 99. This guide is intended for members, but free players can also do some of these actions.

Weaving loom at a clan citadel is great exp at any crafting level.

Training

Crafting level requirement Details XP/hour Profit/XP Other requirements
Level 1-8 Leather armour

You can make leather armour such as boots and gloves which sell very well. To make armour just get a cowhide and take it to the tannery, then use a needle on it with thread in your inventory.

Level 8-10 Clay bowls

Clay can be purchased for 340 coins each at Grand Exchange and used to produce clay bowls. Alternatively, you can mine clay directly south of Gunnarsgrunn.

  • Purchase the clay and head to the Edgeville bank. Fill your inventory with 28 pieces of clay.
  • Alternate between the bank and the well just outside, using the clay on the well to turn the clay into soft clay.
  • Once all of your clay has been turned into soft clay, head to Gunnarsgrunn to turn the soft clay into a bowl and fire it. Return to Edgeville and repeat. Also another good place to go is draynor village. (If you have a high enough agility level to cross the log near the Northern bank, Ardougne is a good location to train crafting since everything is near the bank)
  • Purchase soft clay for 419 coins each instead of clay or use a Bracelet of clay (so you don't spend the time adding water to the clay to turn it into soft clay)

A great place to create clay pieces is in Burthorpe where the starting quest area was recently released. Directly outside the mine that contain clay at a high respawn rate there is a well, a potter's wheel and a pottery oven. Happy clay-making!

Level 8-10 Gold amulets

A way to make a small profit and still train crafting is to make Gold amulet (unstrung) on a Furnace with Gold bars and an Amulet mould. Granting 30xp per gold bar, it is much faster than spinning bow strings. So for those who want something faster than spinning flax but don't want to lose too much money, this method is very useful. The best furnace is the one in Edgeville, but the closest furnace to a bank is in Port Phasmatys. Easily accessible by Ectophial teleport. (Ghosts Ahoy quest completion required) gold bracelets are most likely a better choice as the 25 exp per bracelet is more than made up by the extra profit you make.

40,000 Lua error: .
Level 10-16 Bow strings

A common way for members to train crafting is to spin bow strings on a spinning wheel, which requires flax. It is popular because it is has a low level requirement of 10 crafting and fairly fast way of training crafting up for low to medium level crafters and earns quite a bit of money as the bow strings are highly desired by fletchers. Each Bow string grants 15 Crafting experience when spun. Spinning wheels a short distance from a bank can be found in Lumbridge Castle, Seers' Village and Neitiznot (requires starting Fremennik Isles quest). Players who choose to pick their own flax may also find that the field in Taverley is very efficient, as there is a spinning wheel on the short route between it and the bank. Some players may choose to spin bow strings until level 50+ due to the profit it gives. For example, if you were to buy 1k Flax (96000gp) and spin it all into bowstrings you would earn Expression error: Unexpected < operator.gp, making a great profit.

17,000 Lua error: .
Level 16-28 Unstrung symbols

Unstrung symbols can be made for 50 experience points each, meaning a full load of 27 symbols yields 1350 XP. Silver bars can be bought for 574 coins each at the Grand Exchange, and smelted in Al Kharid furnace. The resulting unstrung symbols can be sold for 237 coins.

Unstrung symbols can be strung for an additional 4 Crafting XP and blessed by Brother Jered in the Monastery, provided the player has 32 prayer. Brother Jered will bless all symbols you carry at once.

Holy moulds are sold at the crafting store in Al Kharid for 5 coins.

Level 28-38 Hard leather body

Craft for 35 XP each. Cowhides can be bought for The time allocated for running scripts has expired. each, lower than the price of hard leather (The time allocated for running scripts has expired. coins), or they can be obtained by killing cows in Lumbridge cow field, or Gnomecopters site. Obtaining the cowhides yourself will cost more time, but when selling the hard leather bodies will give some profit. The quickest place to tan cowhides is at Ellis's tanner shop in Al Kharid, which is located near the bank. Remember, soft leather costs no coins to get tanned, but hard leather costs 3 coins, dragon skin and snakeskin cost 20, so if you're tanning dragon/snakeskin, keep that in mind. Thread and needle are needed to craft the Hard leather bodies. You can also use a Sacred clay needle to double the crafting experience. The thread is used up every 5 bodies crafted, though stackable. These two items can both be bought at the crafting shop.

Level 38-54

or Level 38-63 (cheaper but slightly longer)

Coif

Craft for 37 XP each. Cowhides can be bought for The time allocated for running scripts has expired. each, not much lower than the price of soft leather, or they can be obtained by killing cows in Lumbridge cow field, or near Beefy Bill. The quickest place to tan cowhides is at Ellis's tanner shop in Al Kharid, which is located near the bank. Thread and Needle are needed to craft the coifs, which the string is a dispensable used up every 4 coifs crafted, though stackable. These two items can both be bought at the crafting shop. The GE price of a coif is The time allocated for running scripts has expired. coins but you can sell them to the Scavvo's Rune Store at the Champions' Guild for 60 coins.

A cheaper way of training with leather coifs, with sufficient combat skills, is by killing cows at the small farm located just south of the Burthrope lodestone. Take sufficient thread with you and kill cows, take the hides and tan them directly at Jack Oval. Then directly craft them into coifs and sell them back to him for 60 coins each. Assuming you fill your inventory within 5 minutes, it results in 12,000 crafting experience, about 10,000 combat experience (can vary) and 19,440 coins an hour.

50,000+, possibly a bit more (applies only to the actual crafting phase, not tanning hides)

12,000 if killing cows yourself

Level 54-57 Elemental battlestaff

At level 54, Players may start making Battlestaves. Players would need a battlestaff that can be bought from Zaff, get them from monster drops, or from the Grand Exchange and other players. Players would then need an elemental orb, depending on the type of staff they wish to make. Players may earn some money if they buy battlestaves from Zaff, charge their own Unpowered orbs, attach the orb to the staff, and then sell it on the Grand Exchange. Note that only 100 battlestaves can be bought from the Grand Exchange every 4 hours. Please note that only a limited supply of battlestaves may be bought from Zaff in one day (8 to 80 depending on your level of completion of Varrock Tasks).

302,000
Level 57-84 Dragonhide armour

At 57 crafting and onwards, making dragon leather armour is a great way for experience. For optimal experience rates dragonhide body should be crafted (requires at least Level 63 Crafting for Green D'hide body). Approximately 1200 - 1300 dragonhide bodies (3600 - 4000 dragon leather) can be made per hour. The products can be sold back but you will lose a lot. Alternatively, Players may cast High Level Alchemy on these finished products to earn some magic experience, but to minimise loss, it is recommended to sell your products. A needle and some threads are also required. Players may also substitute a needle for Sacred clay needle or a Volatile clay needle as they give 100% and 120% bonus experience, respectively. The Sacred clay needle is recommended over the Volatile version as it does not revert back to its regular state once 10% of its charges are used up, while only giving 20% less bonus experience.

Jewellery making

Jewellery making is a common way to train crafting. Making amulets with gems consists of several steps, considering:

  1. Buy or obtain gem,
  2. Buy or obtain gold bar
  3. Cut the gem
  4. Smelt the gem and gold bar in a furnace.
  5. Use ball of wool on the amulet to string it,
  6. Sell it.

For jewellery other than amulets, step 5 is omitted, for pure gold jewellery, step 1 and 3 are omitted. You can make up to 1,100 gemmed pieces of jewellery per hour, depending on your level of concentration and speed with a few miss clicks.

Buying or obtaining gems

Gems can only be obtained in a few ways for players: Purchasing from the Grand Exchange, buying from shops or players, mining (randomly from normal rocks or Gem rocks), stealing from safes, monster drops, the Gnome Restaurant activity, the sapphire spawn in deep wilderness or if you have the Summoning level for it, and magpies, who forage gems and rings. Uncut gems can be cut for crafting experience, but cut gems are much cheaper. Below is a list of cost of buying uncut and cut gems at GE: (The Amulet of Glory and the Ring of Wealth increase your chance of getting gems while mining ore.)

Gold Smithing

Gold bars can be obtained in two ways: smelting gold ore which requires 40 smithing or directly buying from the GE. The current prices of gold ore and gold bars are The time allocated for running scripts has expired. coins and The time allocated for running scripts has expired. coins respectively, which gives purchasers a distinct advantage, since the difference in the GE price is determined by so-called Goldsmithing for members. With goldsmithing gauntlets obtained from the quest Family crest, a very large portion of smithing experience is gained, but this doesn't change the fact of major loss. One way to Greatly lower money loss is to free the Rogue in Rogue's Castle, this requires Summer's End to be completed for the Upgraded Jennica's Ring. He will be in the small home with a range near the small Varrock bank. He will buy any unenchanted Jewellery and pays the low alchemy value for it, based on the cost of gold ore and the low alchemy price of Gold Bracelet you will lose a little over 180 coins, this will effectively earn both Smithing and Crafting experience as well as greatly lowering the amount of money you lose per gold bar, you can also sell them noted to him to save time.

Smelting jewellery

A close furnace should be chosen to mass-produce jewellery. The best furnaces to use are Edgeville or Port Phasmatys. An amulet mould, necklace mould, bracelet mould or ring mould is brought along with equal number of gold bars and cut gems, although these should already be on your toolbelt. A detailed experience table can be seen in the Crafting article. Rings require the lowest level to craft, necklaces originally gave the best reward of cash, which is now surpassed by buying gold bars at the current Grand Exchange price of The time allocated for running scripts has expired. coins each and making them into gold bracelets. These can then be sold to the Rogue in Varrock, as he will always buy them at the low alchemy price of 220 coins each - it is almost always possible to double your money depending on gold bar prices. Although it is possible to make a lot of money with this method, it does also entail its cons as the experience is also slow.

Bracelets can be High Alched if you have Level 55 Magic or higher, for 330 gp. This actually gains more profit (with a fire staff), and generates Magic experience.

Due to the low price of Dragonstones, High Alching or sometime selling Dragonstone bracelets that you made is profitable. Making Dragonstone bracelets at Edgeville with Pack yak gives up to 150k experience per hour.

Amulets bear maximum experience and highest requirement, while carrying some inconvenience as stringing is needed. Unstrung amulets can be sold on the Grand Exchange to players wishing to train magic via the String Jewellery spell under the Lunar Magicks.

A player can buy cut sapphires or emeralds, cosmic runes, and gold bars and smelt them into sapphire necklaces or emerald rings. Then they can enchant them and sell the finished games necklaces or rings of duelling for a profit, while gaining valuable crafting and magic experience.

Stringing amulets

Ball of wool can be bought at GE for The time allocated for running scripts has expired. coins each, or using spinning wheel to spin wool. Casual players can take advantage of Fred the farmer's farm, where sheep inhabit the area alongside a spawn of shears. The closest spinning wheel from the farm is on the first floor of the Lumbridge castle.

At level 80 magic the spell String Jewellery can be cast to automatically string all amulets in a player's inventory. This is much more expensive than using a ball of wool, but is a good way to train Magic and Crafting quickly.

Enchanting

With sufficient magic level, jewellery with gems can be enchanted. Although this gives magic exp, it does allow you to make a profit from the jewellery you make. Currently, emerald rings are one of the best types of jewellery to enchant.

Glass making

The time allocated for running scripts has expired. Members will also find useful making molten glass and crafting it into different items with a glassblowing pipe. Entrana is the best place to start it out, since Fritz the Glassblower teaches how to make molten glass and also all the items needed for making glass are available in the island. Members can level up within Entrana from level 1 to 30, crafting a variety of glasses that give a decent experience compared to regular crafting. For further convenient glass making, players should complete Hand in the Sand, so Bert gives 84 buckets of sand daily, buy Seaweed from Arhein in Catherby and cooking it to get Soda ash, and using Port Phasmatys or Edgeville furnace to speed up the glass making process, alternatively, a player who has completed the Lunar isle quests, and has level 77 Magic, could use the spell Superglass Make which not only saves time having not to cook the seaweed, but also has the chance of producing extra molten glass for free. Glassblowing can be a decent training tool well into the 90's with 52xp per orb and a possible 90k xp per hr.

Yaks

Make Yak-hide legs. Making legs gives 32 exp (the same amount of experience as bodies), but uses only 1 hide rather than 2.

Elemental battlestaves

Crafting elemental battlestaves is one of the fastest crafting experience available. However, it is more difficult to obtain mass quantities of battlestaves due to the limit for them on the Grand Exchange (100 per 4 hours). Keep in mind that up to 80 battlestaves may be bought from Naff with the elite Varrock Tasks done, and another 20 from Baba Yaga on Lunar Isle daily. In order to obtain battlestaves faster, one may choose to buy them in bulk from players on the Runescape Forums.

Assuming the player has the battlestaves and charged orbs ready, it is possible to craft around 2,200 battlestaves per hour.

The table below shows approximate amount of xp gained per hour, and the profit/loss per battlestaff assuming the player buys the charged orb and battlestaff from Grand Exchange for market price.

Dragonhide bodies

Creating dragonhide bodies is a decent alternative to those who do not have the ability to obtain mass quantities of battlestaves, although the experience is slower.

Below is a table showing the production costs for each dragonhide body.

Urns

While crafting Urns at the pottery station in Ardougne, one can make approximately 420 urns per hour, using two soft clay per urn. While not spectacular experience, these urns can then be used in training other skills as well, so it's a win-win. To figure out the xp/hr of an urn, multiply 420 by the total experience gained by crafting the urn [420 * (XP from Forming + XP from Firing)]. For example, the xp/hr of a Decorated Mining Urn (requires 59 Crafting) is 420*95, which is 39,900 xp/hr.

While crafting Urns in the Crafting Guild using a Pack Yak, a Skills necklace and a banking jewellery such as a Ring of duelling, Ring of kinship or TokKul-Zo (the latter two being preferred for their unlimited charges), you can craft up to 560 urns per hour, so if they are Decorated cooking urn the xp per hour is 72800. You also can make some profit depending on the price of Soft clay and urns, while training Crafting. Alternatively, if you do not have a high enough summoning level to use a Pack Yak, or simply do not wish to waste any money, you can also use a Clan Vexillum and a Ring of Kinship to get the job done.

Another place one might want to consider is the east bank in Varrock. Just south of the bank is both a potter's wheel and a pottery oven, as well as a water source nearby.

Weaving (Clan Citadel)

Weaving at the loom in a Clan Citadel can be tremendous experience, usually 120k/h for a total of about 200k xp each week. The amount of experience gained is dependant on your level in crafting, usually around double the level. Although it is slightly slow and much attention is needed, it's free, no items are required and you can gain hundreds of thousands of experience for completing your cap every build tick (once a week). In addition to this experience, you will also earn a Clan ring good towards any of the skills that the citadel currently has plots for (which can be used for bonus crafting exp during regular training) and bonus fealty exp from your Clan cloak for coming in for skilling each week, both in terms of more exp from the plots themselves, and a chunk of exp (like an exp lamp) from the cape once you have reached fealty rank 3.
