Introduction[]

Fishing spot
Fishing rod detail

This guide describes the most effective pay-to-play methods to train the Fishing skill. The experience rate estimates in this guide do not incorporate the use of any experience boosting items or bonus experience. They also assume that players do not bank the raw fish that they catch. Banking fish decreases the amount of experience players can gain per hour and, as most raw fish are not very valuable, is usually not worth the time taken from Fishing training. Players using the Evolution of Combat mode can drop raw fish by adding the raw fish to their action bar and pressing the associated keybind to drop the fish. As opposed to dropping items directly from the inventory using their right-click drop option, dropping raw fish via the action bar does not interrupt fishing.

Fishing bait detail

Fishing is a gathering skill which involves catching raw fish at Fishing spots. Fishing requires a range of tools such as crayfish cages and fishing rods, most of which are already stored in a player's tool belt when their account is created. Catching some kinds of fish also requires players to use various types of bait, one of which is used up each time that a fish is caught. Levelling up the Fishing skill increases the rate at which players catch fish and gain experience while fishing.

Useful equipment[]

Fishing outfit[]

Fishing outfit equipped

Wearing components of the fishing outfit gives a percentage increase in the amount of base experience gained while fishing. There are four pieces in the set: the hat, jacket, waders, and boots. Each item can be purchased for 140 reward tokens from the Fish Flingers minigame, therefore purchasing all of the set's pieces costs 560 tokens. If all pieces of the set are worn, an additional set bonus effect is given.

Name Experience boost
Fishing hat Fishing hat 1%
Fishing jacket Fishing jacket 1%
Fishing waders Fishing waders 1%
Fishing boots Fishing boots 1%
Set bonus 1%
Total experience boost 5%

Shark outfits[]

Fury shark head chathead

Parts of shark outfits may be created from shark fragments which are received when fishing with at least level 70 Fishing. The fragments can be assembled into outfit parts with level 80 Fishing and 20 Invention. The outfit components were also previously available from Treasure Hunter. The shark outfit, burnt shark outfit and tiger shark outfit consist of head slot, body slot, leg slot, hand slot and feet slot items. If any pieces are lost they may be retrieved from Diango. When wearing a complete version of any of these three outfits, players gain the following bonuses:

  • Ability to toggle between receiving fish while fishing, or having fish be destroyed as they are caught (via a right-click option on the head slot item).
  • Chance of catching a fish is increased by 5%.
  • Living rock creatures in the Living Rock Caverns will not be aggressive towards players.
  • If a player owns a complete fishing outfit, then they will receive its 5% increased base experience effect while wearing a shark outfit.

When a player owns all pieces of the shark outfit, burnt shark outfit and tiger shark outfit they may combine these outfits' components to form the fury shark outfit. This outfit gives superior benefits to those given by the other shark outfits. Players gain the following bonuses from a fury shark outfit:

  • Ability to toggle between receiving fish while fishing, or having fish be destroyed as they are caught (via a right-click option on the head slot item).
  • Chance of catching a fish is increased by 7% (as opposed to 5% with the other shark outfits).
  • Living rock creatures in the Living Rock Caverns will not be aggressive towards players.
  • If a player owns a complete fishing outfit, then they will receive its 5% increased base experience effect while wearing a shark outfit.
  • 10% chance of catching two fish at once while fishing, giving double experience.
  • 60-70% chance of not using up bait when a fish is caught.

Call of the sea auras[]

Legendary call of the sea aura detail

Call of the sea auras increase a player's chance of catching a fish by a percentage while they are activated. These auras' effects last for one hour after they are activated. Players may use 5 or 10 vis wax to extend a call of the sea aura's activation time by 50% or 100% respectively (costing 77,165 or 154,330). This effect must be applied before the aura is activated. Once a call of the sea aura has been used the player must wait 3 hours before using it again. Call of the sea auras can be bought using Membership loyalty points. All lower tiers of the aura must be owned before a higher tier aura can be purchased.

Tier Percentage chance of catching a fish increased by Loyalty point cost

1 Call of the sea aura Call of the sea 3% 5,000 5,000
2 Greater call of the sea aura Greater call of the sea 5% 14,000 19,000

Summoning familiars[]

Granite lobster

There are three Summoning familiars available which invisibly boost a player's Fishing level while they are summoned. This does not let a player access higher level content, but allows them to fish at a slightly faster rate. The granite lobster gives an additional benefit of foraging for raw sharks and swordfish while the player is fishing, for which the player is awarded 10% of the Fishing experience that they would have received if they had caught the fish themself.

Urns[]

Decorated fishing urn detail

Urns can be used to gain additional Fishing experience while training. When held in the inventory, urns are filled as the player catches fish. Only base experience gains counts towards filling the urn. Full urns can be teleported away to receive additional experience, equivalent to 20% of the Fishing experience gained while filling the urn. Only one urn is filled at a time, though players may own up to a total of 10 full urns. If a player owns 10 full fishing urns they must teleport at least 1 away before they can fill more urns. Urns are only tradeable in their (nr), non-runed, forms. In order to use a fishing urn the player must add a water rune to it; this makes the urn untradeable.

Players who have at least level 24 Invention and who have completed Nomad's Elegy can discover how to make an urn enhancer. When in the player’s inventory the urn enhancer grants 25% additional experience for teleporting a full urn. This effect costs 20 charges from the player’s charge pack. Assuming the player purchases divine charges from the Grand Exchange, it would cost 804.55 to use the urn enhancer when teleporting an urn. A player fishing large crystal urchins with level 99 Fishing would gain around 110,000 base experience an hour. If using decorated fishing urns the player would gain 22,000 extra experience an hour, with an additional 5,500 experience if using an urn enhancer. This would cost around 9,316.69 an hour in divine charges.

Fishing accumulators[]

Fishing accumulators can be created by players with at least level 60 Invention. They can also be bought from the Grand Exchange for 61,799 each. When held in the player’s inventory a Fishing accumulator gains charges each time that the player fails to fish. The accumulator can then be studied to gain experience. 2,500 Fishing experience is gained from studying a fully charged Fishing accumulator.

Skillchompas[]

Crystal skillchompa detail
Crystal skillchompa equipped

Skillchompas can be equipped or kept in the inventory while fishing to increase the rate at which fish are caught. They also prevent players from needing to use bait while catching fish. When fishing with skillchompas equipped or held in the inventory, a skillchompa is consumed each time the player's character attempts to fish - even if the action is unsuccessful. If a player successfully gains experience from catching a raw fish while fishing with a skillchompa then they receive an additional 10% of the normal base experience. Each time a fishing attempt is unsuccessful a player gains 5% of the bonus experience that they would have received if the attempt was successful. For example when fishing large crystal urchins players gain 350 experience each time they successfully catch one when not using skillchompas; using skillchompas grants 385 experience upon successfully catching a large crystal urchin and 19 experience each time the player is unsuccessful.

At level 99 Fishing using crimson skillchompas while fishing at the high level area within the Prifddinas waterfall gives around 153,000 experience an hour if no other experience boosting items are used (compared to 92,500 an hour when not using skillchompas). In an hour of fishing using this method around 1,460 crimson skillchompas are used, costing 1,952,020.

Whopper-baiting scrimshaw[]

Whopper-baiting scrimshaw detail

Whopper-baiting scrimshaws can be activated to give players a chance of attracting a big fish while fishing. This awards additional Fishing experience although the big fish are never successfully caught by the player (the player only catches a regular version of the fish). Whopper-baiting scrimshaws can be activated and deactivated when the player chooses, providing that a 10 second cooldown has passed. The inferior whopper-baiting scrimshaw gives a 15% chance of attracting a big fish to gain more experience and requires level 70 Fishing to use. The inferior scrimshaw is tradeable, costing 927,108, and lasts for 3 hours. The superior whopper-baiting scrimshaw gives a 20% chance of attracting a big fish to gain more experience and requires level 80 Fishing to use. The superior scrimshaw lasts for 4 hours but it is untradeable. Players who have level 85 Fletching can unlock the ability to make superior whopper-baiting scrimshaws by gathering all 4 fragments of the whopper-baiting scroll in the Player-owned port minigame. The superior scrimshaw can then be crafted from 10 ancient bones.

The additional experience gained from the scrimshaw attracting a big fish is equivalent to a proportion of the experience that is gained upon catching a normal fish while fishing, and varies depending on the type of fish being caught. When fishing at fishing spots which grant more than one kind of fish, players have a chance of catching big fish version of all the normal types of fish that they can catch. Inferior and superior scrimshaws award the same amount of additional experience for catching a big fish. While fishing at the high-level area of the Prifddinas waterfall a player with level 99 Fishing would receive around 1,800 experience an hour from using a regular scrimshaw and 2,205 experience an hour from using a superior scrimshaw.

Name Experience gained from catching normal fish Experience gained from attempting to catch big fish Additional experience gained from scrimshaw

Aquariums[]

Fremennik longboat decoration detail

With at least level 63 in the Construction skill players can build an aquarium in their player-owned house for 200,000. Players have a chance of finding golden fish eggs while fishing certain types of aquarium-related fish and can obtain prawn balls while fishing after an aquarium is built. For each golden fish egg received players unlock a prawn perk. Prawn perks include the ability to do fly fishing without feathers, also applying to fly fishing while Dungeoneering, and barbarian fishing without bait. When opening prawn balls players may find decorations which can be placed in their aquarium to gain an increased chance of finding golden fish eggs from a specific fishing spot, as well as a 2% increase in experience received while fishing at the location. The tribal mask decoration provides these bonuses while fly fishing at Shilo Village, the Fremennik longboat decoration provides these bonuses while barbarian fishing at Otto's Grotto and the Vorago decoration provides these bonuses while fishing in the Living Rock Caverns.

Seren spells and prayers[]

Access to Seren spells and prayers, which can be found in the ancient magicks and ancient curses spell and prayer books, is unlocked upon completing The Light Within quest. Crystallise requires level 88 Magic and 6 water, 6 fire, 6 chaos and 6 soul runes to cast. Crystallise can be cast on a Fishing spot to increase the Fishing experience gained from it by 50%, while preventing the player from gaining any resources from the spot. This effect lasts for 30 seconds after Crystallise has been cast; it is not possible to cast Crystallise again until the effect has worn off. If a crystallised Fishing spot moves before the spell's effect wears off then it will continue to be crystallised at its new location. With at least level 80 Prayer players can use the Light Form prayer, which enhances the effects of Seren-aligned spells while it is activated, to further increase additional the Fishing experience gained from a crystallised Fishing spot to 87.5%. Players will need to consume around 53 doses of prayer potion per hour, with level 99 Prayer, to maintain the prayer points required to keep Light Form activated. Use of prayer renewal potions can be used to help regain prayer points. When training Fishing using Crystallise players can cast the spell up to 120 times an hour, costing 1,210,320 in runes. This cost can be reduced by using staves in place of some of the required runes. Crystallise cannot be cast on barbarian fishing spots, fishing spots in Menaphos or on fishing spots within the Living Rock Caverns.

Perfect juju fishing potions[]

Perfect juju fishing potion detail

When the perfect juju fishing potion's effect is active the player's chance of catching a fish is increased by 5%. Each dose of the perfect juju fishing potion lasts for 1 hour. The potion can be bought from the Grand Exchange or created by adding 10 harmony dust to a juju fishing potion (3) by players with level 92 Herblore.

Name GE price
Perfect juju fishing potion (1) Perfect juju fishing potion (1) 18,253
Perfect juju fishing potion (2) Perfect juju fishing potion (2) 28,132

Perfect juju fishing potion (4) Perfect juju fishing potion (4) 58,784

Visible Skill Boosts[]

In order to increase the chance for a successful fishing attempt, one can use various consumables. Namely the Fishing Potion and Fish and Admiral Pie. Cooking up spicy stews isn't tempting, if one has access to the grand exchange, as the Admiral Pie provides a +5 skill boost and isn't based on chance. An exhaustive list can be found here.

Crystal fishing rod[]

Crystal fishing rod detail

The crystal fishing rod gives a 5% increase in the chance of catching a fish at fishing spots that require the use of a fishing rod. Players can unlock the ability to create degradable crystal fishing rods by exchanging 3,000 crystal urchin points at the Prifddinas Waterfall Fishing Shop. This gives the crystal rod the indirect requirements of 93 fishing, 90 agility, 90 ranged, and 90 strength (all of which are boostable) to create. After obtaining this ability players with level 80 Smithing can create a crystal fishing rod by combining a crystal tool seed, costing 83,418, with 150 harmonic dust through crystal singing. Alternatively, players can pay Ilfeen, Eluned, Islwyn or Rhodri Dail 102,000-510,000 coins to create a crystal fishing rod for them; this does not require harmonic dust. When first made a crystal fishing rod has 1,000 charges. While fishing outside of Prifddinas 2 charges are consumed each time that the player catches a fish, meaning that the rod can be used to catch 500 fish. 1 charge is used each time that the player catches a fish within Prifddinas, meaning that it can be used to catch 1,000 fish in this area. Upon being degraded the crystal tool seed can be re-enchanted by Ilfeen, Eluned, Islwyn or Rhodri Dail for 102,000-510,000 coins, depending on the number of times that the tool seed has previously been enchanted.

Augmented tools[]

Augmentor detail

Players with at least level 22 Invention can discover how to create the fishing rod-o-matic. This allows the player to manufacture a fishing rod-o-matic, which can be used to fish at any fishing spot. It also gives the player the ability to create an augmented crystal fishing rod by using an augmentor on a crystal fishing rod. The augmented crystal fishing rod can only be used to fish at fishing spots at which a crystal fishing rod can be used, however it grants this rod’s 5% increased catch rate effect. At the same Invention level players can discover how to make tool gizmos. A tool gizmo may be added to a fishing rod-o-matic or augmented crystal fishing rod to give it perks. The following perks may be useful to players training Fishing:

Name Effect Number of ranks
Furnace (perk)
Furnace
Has a 5% chance per rank of consuming a gathered resource for an extra 100% XP. 3
Honed
Honed
Has a 2% per rank higher chance of successfully gathering items. 5
Wise
Wise
When equipped, +1% per rank additional experience, up to 50,000 XP per day. 3

To use an augmented fishing rod’s perks the player must have charges in their charge pack. Use of these tools costs at most 0.31 divine charges from the player’s charge pack per second. Assuming players purchase divine charges from the Grand Exchange to power their charge packs, it would cost 44,863.57 an hour to use an augmented fishing rod. This cost can be reduced by researching charge drain improvements or by adding the efficient perk to the item.

Methods[]

Summary[]

See here to calculate how many raw fish will be obtained during training.

Levels Method Experience per hour Alternative methods
1-20 Crayfish 11,500
20-70 Fly fishing 17,000-57,000 Players can gain equal experience rates through barbarian fishing between levels 58-70 Fishing.
70-93 Crystallise fly fishing Up to 118,000 experience an hour with level 99 If they do not have access to crystallise, players can train using barbarian fishing to gain around 63,000 experience an hour, with level 70 Fishing.
Start fishing in Menaphos at level 72 Fishing, for up to 85,000 experience an hour, at level 99 Fishing.
93-94 Prifddinas waterfall fishing Up to 119,000 experience an hour, at level 99 Fishing.
94-99+ Fishing Frenzy Over 285,000 experience an hour, at level 99 Fishing. Continue fishing at Prifddinas waterfall
Start fishing wobbegongs at level 96 Fishing for up to 137,000 experience an hour, at level 99 Fishing.

Levels 1-20: crayfish[]

Raw crayfish detail

At level 1 Fishing players should begin catching raw crayfish. Fishing crayfish gives around 11,500 Fishing experience an hour between levels 1 and 20 Fishing. Assuming a player has no previous experience in the Fishing skill, they should be able to achieve these levels in around 23 minutes. Locations to catch crayfish include east of Lumbridge church and along the northern shore of the lake in Taverley, near Nicholas Angle. No bait is required when catching crayfish.

Levels 20-70: fly fishing[]

Raw trout detail

At level 20 Fishing players should start training by fly fishing raw trout. At level 30 Fishing players gain the ability to catch raw salmon and will begin to catch a mix of both trout and salmon while fly fishing. This gives between 17,000 and 57,000 Fishing experience per hour, with level 20-70 Fishing. Feathers, costing 13 each, are the required bait for fly fishing (up to 1,000 feathers per day can be purchased from Lumbridge fishing shop for 6 gold). There are several locations where players can fly fish trout and salmon, including east of Gunnarsgrunn, at the River Lum in Lumbridge, and in Shilo Village (if the Shilo Village quest has been completed). To fly fish, players must use the "lure" option, as opposed to the "bait", on fishing spots found in these locations.

From level 58 Fishing onwards players may begin to catch both leaping trout and leaping salmon using barbarian fishing techniques. Catching these fish gives the same amount of Fishing experience per fish caught as catching raw trout and raw salmon. Also, fish are caught at a similar rate using both barbarian fishing techniques and through fly fishing. This means that the two methods give a similar experience rates between levels 58 and 70 Fishing. Barbarian fishing requires level 30 in both Strength and Agility and grants small amounts of Strength and Agility experience for each fish caught. This method also allows the use of bait in place of feathers which works out cheaper when purchasing from the Grand Exchange.

Level Experience per hour (fly fishing)
20 17,000
25 19,000
30 30,000
35 34,000
40 36,000
45 39,000
50 42,000
55 46,000
60 50,000
65 55,000
69 57,000

Note: using strong fishing urns at 70 fishing can yield up to 70,000 experience an hour

Levels 70-93: fly fishing with crystallise[]

At level 70 Fishing players should continue to train by fly fishing raw trout and salmon if they are able to use the Crystallise spell and Light Form prayer to increase the experience gained from Fishing spots. This gives up to 118,000 experience an hour, with level 99 Fishing. Players wishing to reduce the need for prayer potions could fish at the River Lum and build the nearby God Statue and use it as an altar to recharge prayer points. If you use the Crystallise spell every 30 seconds, you can expect a maximum of 11,400 Magic experience per hour on top of the Fishing experience.

Barbarian fishing (70-72)[]

Leaping sturgeon detail

At level 70 players gain the ability to catch leaping sturgeon and should begin training by barbarian fishing leaping trout, leaping salmon and leaping sturgeon if they are unable to use Crystallise and Light Form. This gives around 63,000 experience an hour at level 70 Fishing. Players are also awarded 4, 5 or 7 experience each in both Strength and Agility each time they catch a leaping trout, leaping salmon or leaping sturgeon respectively. Barbarian fishing requires completion of the part of barbarian training which allows players to use a heavy fishing rod. Additionally level 45 Strength and Agility is required in order to catch all three types of fish. Feathers (costing 13) or fishing bait (costing 5) are required to catch these fish. The only location where these fish can be caught is the lake near the hut of Otto Godblessed at the top of Baxtorian Falls.

Fishing in Menaphos (72-93)[]

Raw beltfish detail

At level 72 Fishing players can fish desert sole, catfish, and beltfish from fishing spots in Menaphos' port district or VIP skilling area. Partial completion of The Jack of Spades quest is required to be able to access Menaphos. An additional benefit of fishing here is that reputation can be gained. The VIP skilling area is unlocked at tier 7 overall reputation: the fishing spots within this area deplete at half the rate of the fishing spots in the port district. At tier 8 reputation within the port district the player's success chance while fishing is increased. Fishing in Menaphos gives at least 85,000 experience an hour, at level 99 Fishing without the reputation effects unlocked.

Levels 93-94: Prifddinas waterfall fishing[]

Large crystal urchin detail

With at least level 93 Fishing players can begin training by Prifddinas Waterfall Fishing. As the waterfall is located within Prifddinas, between the Crwys and Meilyr districts, completion of Plague's End is required to access it. Level 90 Ranged, Agility and Strength are also required to use the grapple shortcut to get to the top of the waterfall. Players will need to bring a mithril grapple and a crossbow in order to use the grapple shortcut, if they have not previously built a hidey-hole at the waterfall. Alternatively, a player may use an enhanced grappling hook from their tool belt.

With level 93 Fishing players can fish at the low-level area to obtain small crystal urchins. At level 95 players can fish at the mid-level area to gain medium crystal urchins. With 97 Fishing players can fish at the high-level area to obtain large crystal urchins.

The crystal urchins that are obtained from fishing at the waterfall can be exchanged for crystal urchin points to spend on rewards at the Prifddinas Waterfall Fishing Shop. With level 99 Fishing, a player can obtain a base rate of around 130,000 experience an hour from fishing at the high-level area. With buffs this can go up to 200,000 experience an hour. Additionally the player will obtain 317 large crystal urchins which would give them 951 crystal urchin points. 3,000 Fishing experience can be purchased for 300 crystal urchin points, so players can gain an additional 9,000 experience an hour, for a total of 139,000 base experience an hour.

Levels 94-99+: Fishing Frenzy[]

Fish (Fishing frenzy)

With level 94 Fishing players can fish at Fishing Frenzy spots at the Deep Sea Fishing hub. This gives over 285,000 experience an hour at level 99 Fishing. The hub can be accessed by talking to Goomah at the Fishing Guild. Fishing Frenzy grants no fish. It has a streak mechanic where players must continually click on the rapidly moving spots in order to increase and maintain their streak. Streak is increased when experience is gained from the fishing spots and gives a experience bonus while participating in fishing frenzy. 1% experience boost is gained for every 10 streak; up to a maximum of 20% experience boost at 200 streak. The streak will be halved if the player is inactive for 6 seconds, and lost if the player is inactive for longer than 6 seconds.

While participating in Fishing Frenzy players may encounter NPCs that award fishing experience including: seagulls, seasingers, Captain Deathbeard, fishermen, and pelicans. These can be interacted with to gain a small amount of Fishing experience; up to 1,940 at level 99. It is not advised that players engage in the area's random events, as doing so will cause them to lose their streak. Players may also randomly find helpful items while fishing, including:

Wobbegongs (96-99+)[]

For a less intensive training method players could continue fishing at Prifddinas waterfall. At level 96 Fishing players may also choose to fish wobbegongs.

Raw wobbegong detail

Raw wobbegongs are a rare Fishing resource that can be found randomly on Uncharted Isles. Uncharted Isles can be explored from the The Arc region, which requires completion of the Impressing the Locals quest to access. Completion of the Flag Fall miniquest, which allows the player to claim an uncharted isle and return to it, is also required to fish wobbegongs effectively. To find wobbegongs, the player must first gain some chimes from skilling in The Arc so that they can purchase the supplies required to voyage to Uncharted Isles. Supplies can be purchased from Rosie (supplies). When the player finds an Uncharted Isle with wobbegong fishing spots then they can claim the island using a claim island flag. Once an uncharted isle is claimed the player may return to it for the price of 3 supplies per voyage: 5 supplies can be claimed per day for free from the box next to Rosie. Up to 3 wobbegong fishing spots may be present on an Uncharted Isle, if the player opts to go on a long voyage.

Rosie's supplies

Raw wobbegongs can be fished using a fishing rod with level 96 Fishing. Each day the player may catch approximately 100 raw wobbegongs per fishing spot before it is depleted. The daily cap resets at 00:00 UTC. Depleting one wobbegong fishing spot takes around 30 minutes and gives around 68,500 experience. When selling the raw wobbegongs gained from fishing players can expect to gain enough chimes to cover the cost of purchasing supplies to go on additional long voyages to find more wobbegong fishing spots and thus fish from them indefinitely. Purchasing the supplies cost reductions and commodity sell price increases unlocks from the Waiko Reward Shop, in addition to having a claimed island with as many fishing spots as possible, will further increase the viability of searching for wobbegong fishing spots to fish continuously. At level 99, fishing wobbegongs gives an experience rate equivalent to around 137,000 Fishing experience an hour. The experience from fishing raw wobbegongs can further be bolstered by completing contracts given by Sojobo (contracts) on Waiko or Hubbub (contracts) on Whale's Maw or via a Contract contact on an uncharted isle. Players may complete up to 3 contracts daily, and may purchase upgrades from Boni for a maximum of 7 daily contracts. Doing contracts, however, requires chimes to be able to reroll contracts until satisfactory wobbegong ones are assigned.

Alternative methods of gaining experience[]

Completing quests[]

See here for a list of quests that grant Fishing experience on completion.

Stealing Creation[]

Volatile clay harpoon detail

Players can use reward points from the Stealing Creation mini-game to purchase proto-tools and volatile clay tools. These items can be transformed into a selection of skill related tools, including sacred clay harpoons and volatile clay harpoons. These harpoons can be right-clicked to grant Fishing bonus experience (it is not necessary for the harpoons to be wielded to gain bonus experience). Players are advised to play Stealing Creation within a group of players co-operating in non-combat games to deplete all sources of clay available more quickly. Once all the clay available in a game has been depleted the game will end early, allowing players to gain reward points in shorter amounts of time.

Both proto-tools and volatile clay tools cost 20 reward points per tool to purchase. When converting a proto-tool the player can choose which skilling tool it will become, but converting a volatile clay tool creates a random skilling tool. A volatile clay harpoon grants 29,340 Fishing bonus experience, while sacred clay harpoons grant 24,450 Fishing bonus experience. A skilling tool created from a volatile clay tool can be reverted back to the volatile clay tool and then converted again to potentially give a different tool. This may be done up to 10 times (the volatile clay tool is destroyed upon the 10th reversion); each reversion causing the tool formed from the volatile clay tool to have 10% less bonus experience available to be granted. Both sacred clay and volatile harpoons retain their form after being drained of bonus experience, and players can then use 20 reward points to recharge the depleted tools rather than purchasing new tools. Because of this players can maximise the amount of Fishing bonus experience that they obtain from their reward points by initially purchasing a volatile clay tool and then transforming and reverting the skilling tools created until a volatile clay harpoon is obtained. Players can then continue recharging the volatile clay harpoon, claiming 29,340 Fishing bonus experience from it each time they obtain 20 reward points.

Players with at least level 80 in Woodcutting, Hunter, Fishing and Mining will be able to gather clay from all possible locations in a game of Stealing Creation. With these levels players can gather enough clay during a game of Stealing Creation to gain 24 reward points per game that they play. Assuming games of Stealing Creation are completed in around 12 and a half minutes, players can complete 4.8 games of Stealing Creation per hour and earn 115.2 reward points per hour - enabling them to obtain 140,832 Fishing bonus experience an hour.

Divine fishing bubbles[]

Divine fishing bubble detail

Divine locations are items which can be made using the Divination skill. Divine locations can be placed to create a gathering node from which players can harvest raw materials. Players can harvest from a divine location even if they do not have the Divination level required to make it. A placed divine location lasts approximately 30 seconds before disappearing. Players can gain a limited amount of resources from divine locations per day, with the daily limit resetting at 00:00 UTC each day. A player's daily limit of resources depends on their total level, up to a maximum of 250 resources with a total level of 2,500 or more (see the daily limit calculator on the divine location page). 20 or 40 vis wax can be used to increase a player's daily limit by 50% or 100% once per day, costing 308,660 or 617,320. Gathering most resources contributes 1 resource towards the daily limit per item received, however some resources contribute more towards the daily limit. For example, each time a raw rocktail is obtained from a divine rocktail bubble counts as 4 resources towards the daily limit.

As players may only create one divine location per day, or 3 after progressing in Hall of Memories, it is beneficial for players to harvest from divine locations as part of a group so that they can gain access to multiple divine locations. When other players harvest from a divine location, the player who placed the location gains the benefit of a 40% chance of receiving additional noted items as they harvest from their divine location. Harvesting a noted resource awards the same experience and contribution to a player's daily limit as harvesting an unnoted resource. Harvesting noted resources allows a player to gain more resources from a single divine location and therefore reduces the number of divine locations that they must use to reach their daily limit of resources. A good place to find other players to harvest divine locations with is near Challenge Mistress Fara and the lodestone in Burthorpe on world 2, especially around the time of day when the daily limit resets.

Players can gather from divine fishing bubbles if they have the required Fishing level. When gathering from divine fishing bubbles players will gain raw fish. Raw fish are obtained at a rapid rate and grant experience equivalent to that which would be received if the raw fish were caught from a fishing spot. Because of this, harvesting from divine fishing bubbles can award players large amount of Fishing experience in a short amount of time. For example harvesting a full inventory of raw rocktails from a divine rocktail bubble gives 10,640 Fishing experience in around 30 seconds.

To gain the most Fishing experience possible from harvesting divine fishing bubbles, players should harvest from bubbles that give the most experience per resource count used. Players should harvest from the highest level divine fishing bubble available to them until level 30 Fishing. Players with Fishing levels between 30 and 89 should harvest from divine salmon bubbles. Players with level 89 Fishing or higher should harvest from divine cavefish bubbles. Wearing components of the fishing outfit increases the experience gained from harvesting divine fishing bubbles.

Players can increase the amount of experience that they can gain from divine locations by using vis wax to increase their gathering limit. 20 vis wax, costing 308,660, can be used to increase the limit by 50% or 40 vis wax, costing 617,320, can be used to increase the limit by 100%. Additionally players who have unlocked the druid engram and charged it to form an echo in the Memorial to Guthix distraction and diversion can use the Shared Knowledge buff to increase the experience gained from divine locations. While shared knowledge is activated players will gain 25% additional experience from divine locations but will not receive any items.
