Pearls are a type of trade good in Player-owned ports. Along with 90 Crafting, 80 pearls are used to make the Leviathan ring and 100 to make the Superior leviathan ring. At 92 Smithing, players can make a Tetsu katana and Tetsu wakizashi with plates and a tengu tsuba.
Players can gain pearls from The Architect, The Chef, and The Trapper storylines and their specific voyages as well as some standard voyages. If one wishes to 'farm' pearls, it is recommended to build two Chef and one Biologist statue (spice and pearls), two Architect and one Missionary (fewer pearls and more koi scales), or two Trapper and one Assassin statue (more pearls and fewer koi scales) and using their joint mission.
Players may also buy individual units in the form of ports pearl packs from Boni on Waiko after the miniquest Impressing the Locals. These cost 3 taijitu and 1,000 chimes each, but are the variant outside of Player-Owned Ports.
