The pick is a quest item found during The Fremennik Trials quest. It is found while searching Peer the Seer's house while trying to solve his challenge to get his vote. Although the player will also find a red herring while searching, the small pick is the real red herring as it serves no purpose during this or any other part of the quest. When you use the pick on the chest in the room, you will get the message: "You might be able to break the chest open using this pick...
... if you stood here tapping at it for twenty years or so."
