A plain smelting urn can be created at 35 Crafting (70 XP) and is used with the Smithing skill to help with gaining experience. It can be constructed by using 2 soft clay on a pottery wheel to create a plain smelting urn (unf). After firing it in a pottery oven, a fire rune must be used on the plain smelting urn (nr) to make a plain smelting urn (r) and to enable it to collect 'scraps of metal'. Once it starts to be filled, it becomes a Smelting urn.
The urn can be filled by smelting certain bars that require at most level 50 in Smithing, including bronze, iron, steel, and mithril. It is filled when the player has earned 750 Smithing xp with the urn in inventory.
To fill the urn, players must smelt bars in the furnace or by superheating. Smithing items from the bar does not fill the urn.
- Smelting bars up to mithril, including cannonballs. Gold bars only work when using a smelting furnace.
- Using the blast furnace to smelt a bar.
Does not work with
- Smelting silver bars
- Making Burial Armour in Artisan's Workshop
If smelting two bars at once in the Edgeville furnace, the urn only fills with xp from the first bar that is made. The second does not count.
Warning: When using a new urn and gold ores, make sure you have a free space in your inventory. Otherwise, it won't start filling.
