Effects
Each pulse core has 4,168–17,204 (depending on total level) bonus experience that is granted in whatever skill is being trained whilst it's equipped. Once the bonus experience charge has run out, the core will explode, granting a 2% experience bonus to all players in the vicinity for 10 minutes. An exploding pulse core might also randomly grant a skill level boost to a group of skills or restore some life or Prayer points for the surrounding players. The experience boost stacks with each exploded core, to a cap of 10% bonus experience. The holder doesn't benefit from these bonuses.
The amount of bonus XP given is only matched up to 1 pulse core, i.e. if the activity performed gives more XP than the charges on the current pulse core, a new pulse core will not be used to fill in the remaining bonus XP.
Bonus XP does not stack with pulse cores and will remain unused as long as a pulse core is wielded.
This boost shows up in the boosted stats section of the EoC interface as "Pulse Essence - x
% XP Boost" where x
is the current percentage boost. The boost lasts for 10 minutes, but subsequent explosions reset the 10 minute timer.
Accept Aid must be turned on or else it fails to work: "You were hit by a pulse core blast but receive no benefit as Accept Aid is currently turned off."
A blue ring of particles expands from the holder when the item explodes. This ring rapidly dissipates, and purple rings expand from those within the activation's area of effect. The purple ring is only visible to the affected player and the holder, whereas the blue ring is visible to all players in the area.
Temporary skill boosts
Pulse cores offer temporary boosts in skills aligned to an Expert cape of Accomplishment. It appears that the type of boost received from an exploding pulse core is random, but the skills boosted will always belong to one of four categories. The boost is typically seven levels but can also be higher.
