Quin is an incredibly powerful seasinger of the Wushanko Isles. In the year 149 of the 5th Age, she gained possession of a horn (which some speculate to be the Elder Horn, although there's no proof of this) and used it to take control of all of the sea monsters surrounding  the Pincers Archipelago at once. This granted her power thousands of times greater than normal seasingers, who can only bond with and control one sea monster at once. She used this horn to take over the islands of the Eastern Lands, and made an attempt to get the natives to worship her as a Goddess. There are reports of her controlling hydras, giant flying turtles, white snakes, whales the size of islands, etc. Her right-hand man is her personal bodyguard named Discord, who rides an albino narwhal.

Quin started the war that boiled the seas years ago. Although she won the battle against all the khans, killing tens of thousands of the khans' troops, the number of sea monsters was drastically reduced. This allowed safer travel throughout the Wushanko Isles. Quin still rules many islands and the largest city in the Wushanko Isles, New Heritage.

The Death Lotus, the order of assassins led by Baby Tooth, were drawn into Quin's service after a failed attempt on her life purchased by the khans who opposed her.

Quin is the former employer of Zu Zu, the Occultist and a former target of Ling, the Assassin. She tasked Zu Zu with obtaining immortality for her after Zu Zu prevented Ling from killing Quin with death darts. Zu Zu managed to escape Quin's control by promising to marry Oroshu, a powerful khan who obeys Quin. He secretly escorted her out of the palace and now expects the Occultist to marry him, even though he has hundreds of wives. After retrieving the Brain, the Body, and the Blood the Occultist needs to make herself mortal again from Oroshu, the Occultist kills Oroshu at their meeting. The ritual fails to remove her incredible powers and to make her mortal once again so she decides to throw herself into "The Hole in the World" in the Pincer region. However, Discord, Quin's right hand man, attempts to capture her for Quin. A ship is sent both to stop Zu Zu from jumping and to stop Discord from capturing her.

Her greatest city is currently about to be attacked by the Whaler's greatest nemesis, Shuma, the deaf whale. The Whaler can now communicate with sea monsters thanks to the Old Man of the Sea, so he realizes that Shuma's pod and family of whales were sacrificed by Quin's then chief occultist, Zu Zu, in a bid for immortality, and Shuma wants revenge. However, instead of going to attack Quin directly, she's targeting humanity, and the biggest concentration of humans is at the grand city of New Heritage. It is protected by powerful khans with massive armies, and the Whaler is hurrying to convince Shuma to attack Quin and her minions, rather than take blind revenge on humanity as a whole.

Baby Tooth's son Fat Wu was killed by the Assassin in the Scythe region. In the Bowl region, Ling attempts to kill Baby Tooth during his one-day visit to the training isles of the Death Lotus in the Tokoko Islands. However, it was a trap set up by Kirau, her informer. She kills Kirau in Pincers, even though Kirau told her his entire family was being threatened to be killed if he didn't set a trap for. With sadness she kills him, as per her code. She then decides to deal with Baby Tooth.

John Strum, The Partner, brings together The Whaler, the Assassin, and the Occultist after their respective story missions in the Pincers are successful. Their pasts are all connected with the previous attempt on Quin's life and now is the time their stories will merge into the another assault on Quin.

The Assassin, with the Whaler and Occultist's assistance, kills Quin in the final story. They successfully attack her home and kill her, at an ivory palace on golden pillars called Paradise. Paradise is close to New Heritage, the largest city in the Eastern lands and located in the Pincers region.
