Detailed view of a Raw monkfish

Raw monkfish are members-only fish that can be caught with at least level 62 Fishing, granting 120 Fishing experience points per fish. They can do this by fishing at the Piscatoris Fishing Colony with a small fishing net, however the colony may only be accessed upon completion of the Swan Song quest.

Monkfish give 10 more Fishing experience per catch than sharks, are caught much faster, and can be fished at a lower Fishing level than raw sharks. This makes monks a very efficient way of levelling up. In addition, cooked monkfish are lighter, so players engaging in a lot of running can run longer carrying monkfish versus carrying sharks. The only downsides are that sharks are more valuable and give more cooking experience (although that does not matter if the raw fish are sold). At level 85 Fishing, catching monkfish gives ~30k xp/hour, so at this point, the player may want to catch cavefish instead, which gives ~40k xp/hour.

Members can cook the raw monkfish at level 62 Cooking, and gain 150 experience if they are successful in doing so. Players will stop burning at level 92, or 90 with cooking gauntlets. Cooking monkfish gives approximately 140k xp/hour at level 90 with gauntlets.

The unofficial world for fishing monkfish is World 27.

Trivia

  • To go from 90 to 99 Fishing, you would have to fish raw monkfish for approximately 211 hours.
  • Monkfish can only be caught at the far northwest of current know Gielenor. In real life, monkfish can only be found at northern Atlantic Ocean, which is also the northwest of the world, considering the map version in which Europe features at the center.
