The Ring of wealth is a player made enchanted jewelry item. The unenchanted version is created via the crafting skill by combining a cut dragonstone and a gold bar at a furnace using a ring mold. The resulting dragonstone ring is converted into the ring of wealth by casting the spell Enchant Level 5 Jewellery on the ring, which requires level 68 Magic to cast.

Function

The ring of wealth increases the value of the items its wearer recieves through various means. Specifically, the ring increases the chances of a player getting a (usually) valuable drop from the rare drop table. It has also been confirmed to increase the likelihood of creatures dropping Summoning Charms. It also has been stated as increasing the chance of getting better items from Pyramid Plunder, Barrows, when looting/catching Kingly Implings, and further increases the chances of finding gems while mining with an Amulet of Glory equipped. It also has an effect on clue scrolls, as of March 15, 2011, both on the rewards generated by the clue scrolls as well as on the rarity of the item itself as a drop. The ring of wealth doesn't work in Kuradal's dungeon.

The ring of wealth has two teleport options - to the Grand Exchange and to Miscellania (provided the player has completed the Throne of Miscellania quest, and thus has access to that area). Like all other dragonstone jewellery, the ring can hold a maximum of four rechargable teleports. The number of charges remaining is displayed in brackets at the end of the item name. Players can only recharge their ring of wealths' teleports if they have completed Heroes' Quest, as it is charged within the Heroes' Guild, however charged rings are tradeable and may be purchased on the Grand Exchange. The Grand exchange teleport option places the player at the southern entrance of the Grand Exchange, and the Miscellania teleport takes you to the throne room of Miscellania Castle, notable for containing Advisor Ghrim.

Charging the ring

The ring can be charged with teleports by using it on the Fountain of Heroes below the Heroes' Guild, similarly to the Amulet of Glory. Accessing the Heroes' Guild requires the completion of Heroes' Quest. Charged rings are tradable, allowing players who have not completed the quest to purchase pre-charged rings from other players on the grand exchange. When recharging a Ring of Wealth or Amulet of Glory, all Amulets and Rings that the player has with them, including those being worn and those which have been partially used, will be fully recharged to 4 charges in one action. However, these items may not be charged in noted form.

At level 89 Summoning, a Geyser titan can be used to recharge Rings of wealth by using them on the familiar, as it seems to count as a pseudo-fountain. This negates the need to travel to the Heroes' Guild fountain for players of high summoning levels.

On March 15, 2011 the ring of wealth recieved an update that overhauled the way in which it works in response to a general lack of usefulness previously. In this update it was improved so that it will better increase the players chances of receiving rare items. It was specifically stated by Jagex that after the update:

"Wearing a Ring of wealth will slightly increase the drop chances of many rare items obtained from Slayer monsters and various bosses, as well as all clue scrolls. It will also occasionally improve some common drops, and give you bonus items in a few specific pieces of content. The ring will now also let you know when it has made a difference to your drops." The list of extra functions added to the ring with this update include an increase to the players chances of getting better rewards and more items from the following various activities:

History and previous function

The ring of wealth used to work in a different way than it does now. The following section explains how it used to work before being updated.

Monster drops are determined by random chance from a table of items associated with the killed monster, a sort of rolling of the dice, each of which has a various statistical value of rarity attached. On many monsters, one of the "items" on the standard drop table is actually a trigger for a second "roll" on the rare drop table. This second table contains many of the more saught after items in the game, often including drops specific only to that monster or class of monster, such as abyssal whips or draconic vissages.

When the player gets a "roll" on the rare drop table, they may get an item at random from this separate list which also contains items like uncut gems, the half of a key items, and a few dragon and rune items such as left half of shield, dragon spear, and rune javlens. However, this second table also normally contains many "empty" slots that, if rolled, results in a "no drop." In such an event, nothing except for the monsters 100% drops (eg, bones) and perhaps a summoning charm are recieved. The ring of wealth previously worked on drops by reducing (not eliminating) the number of empty slots on the rare drop table, increasing the odds of receiving items such as half of a key, but not actually increasing the chances of receiving a "rare drop roll" overall. As this, in practicality, translated to a very limited overall effect, the ring came to be generally regarded as having very little value by more experianced players. This opinion was held highly valid when compareing with rings with actual combat stat boosting effects, especially when contemplating boss monsters.[1]

In issue 24 of the God letters, Guthix had this to say about how a ring of wealth worked as of that time:

If thou consider the possessions of an enemy to be like a roulette wheel, then the 'rare' items so coveted by players are located on a second roulette wheel, that will only be spun shouldst thou roll a specific number on the first wheel. The ring of wealth affects not the number which thou may achieve upon the first wheel, but should thou gain the precise number to allow thee access to the second, the ring will make thy chances of gaining an object on that second roulette wheel all the greater. My analogy is flawed, for death is not like roulette, but I hope that thou see the truth within this.

Mod Ash discusses the Ring of Wealth

Mod Ash had previously stamped out many popular rumours about the speculated affected of the Ring of Wealth on drops. Mod Ash stated that the Ring of Wealth only affects monsters that drop gems, and as thus, increased the chances of dropping dragon items. He later confirms he meant "old" dragon stuff, such as Dragon left halves and Half keys, and that the ring did not affect items such as Dragon claws at that point in time.

Prices & merching

On the 15th March, 2011 the Ring of Wealth was given an overhaul in and updated and awarded several new functions. In anticipation of this new update, the price had risen to over 70,000 gp per uncharged ring, and was at or around 100,000 gp for a fully charged ring on the day of released. Several players had bought a number of them at the original 25,000 gp price weeks beforehand and sold for upwards of 60,000 gp after the update.
