History
A Mahjarrat is sacrificed before the stone, and those closer to the stone will be given more power. For years, the Ritual marker's location was unknown until Tale of the Muspah, but was not seen until the Grandmaster quest, The Ritual of the Mahjarrat. In Tale of the Muspah, the Zarosian Mahjarrat Jhallan hibernates under the stone. According to Jhallan, he is 'directly under' the Ritual stone. However, it turns out that the stone was a few steps north of his location. Had Jhallan not been sacrificed, he would have received as much power as Lucien himself.

The Ritual marker possibly shares resemblance to the Evil Creator-God of Freneskae. It is important to note that even if another Mahjarrat dies near the stone but was not chosen to be sacrificed (like Lucien), no energy will be given to the other Mahjarrat. Instead, the energy simply dissipates.

Ritual of the Mahjarrat
The stone seems more cosmetic than it is necessary, as the Mahjarrat is not sacrificed on it, but in front of it. This raises a question- is the power received dependent on the distance from the sacrificed Mahjarrat, or the distance from the stone? This is likely to be an oversight by Jagex.

During the Fremennik Saga "Nadir" the daughter of Lucien, Moia, finds that the Ritual Marker had been attempted to be moved. The Mahjarrat Bilrach is later found to have obtained a version of the Ritual Marker, which he claims to be "the original". It is unkown whether there are multiple Ritual Markers (one of them being obtained by Bilrach) or that this has just been a miscalculation by Jagex.

The Ritual marker is an ancient stone located at the Mahjarrat Ritual Site (also known as The North) where the Mahjarrat meet around every 500 years to sacrifice one of their own and rejuvenate, reclaiming their lost powers and youth in the process, becoming much more powerful. The current marker is found at the Mahjarrat Ritual Site and was created by Zaros. The purpose of the marker is to channel the energy of Mahjarrat sacrificed to it onto Ritual Site, rejuvenating any nearby Mahjarrat. It is strongly bound to its current location, making moving it nearly impossible.

History

The original marker was created by the goddess Seren on Freneskae while under the guise of Mah, the Elder God that created the Mahjarrat and the other tribes of the Dreams of Mah. Seren instructed all of the tribes to periodically sacrifice one of their kind to pay tribute to Mah, with the intent that their energy would then be channelled through the marker into Mah in order to rejuvenate her. This marker was left in Freneskae after the Mahjarrat left with Icthlarin, presumably because it was bound to the area like the current one is.

The current version of the marker was created by another of Mah's creations and Seren's "companion" - Zaros - in the Second Age, after he learnt of the Ritual of Rejuvenation while meeting with the Mahjarrat at the fortress of Kharid-et.[1] Zaros was the one that told the Mahjarrat that without Mah, they could use the ritual to rejuvenate themselves, and told them to do it every 500 years. The marker was eventually relocated from Kharid-et to its current location at Ghorrock.[2]

Shortly after the 17th Gielinor ritual in the Fourth Age, Moia, the daughter of Lucien, discovered that someone had tried to move the Ghorrock marker, and embarked on a mission to find the Mahjarrat Bilrach, who was not present at the ritual and whom Lucien believed may be responsible. Upon reaching the bottom of Daemonheim, Moia discovered Bilrach in a room with a broken version of the Ritual Marker, which he claimed to be the original from Freneskae, brought to him in pieces by Hearthen.
