Rocktail detail

The Rocktail is a fish that is found in the Living Rock Caverns. Rocktails require a Fishing level of 90 or higher to fish and give 380 experience per catch, which is the most experience obtainable from a single catch of any fish in RuneScape. The player needs a normal fishing rod and Living minerals as bait to catch Rocktails. The Living minerals can be obtained from a living rock protectors/strikers/patriarchs dead remains. Level 73 Mining is needed to mine the dead body. The Living Rock Caverns, however, are quite dangerous. Players could be attacked by level 120+ monsters.

Rocktails require a Cooking level of 93 to cook and give 225 experience per fish. Players stop burning Rocktail at level 99 while wearing cooking gauntlets. Rocktail heal 23 hitpoints and can heal a player up to 10 Hitpoints higher than the maximum HP. This makes it the best single-bite food in the game. Eating Raw rocktail using the Bunyip swallow whole scroll does not currently boost hitpoints above the maximum. The effect does not stack with Saradomin brew.

Trivia

  • Rocktail are very similar to the real-life Angler fish as they have a bio-luminescence esca (fleshy-like stem with a bulb that emits natural light) on their heads.
  • There was a bug where a player would not burn Rocktails, even at 93 cooking, if wearing cooking gauntlets when this fish was released.
