Today, we come together and say goodbye to the most obscure, buggy and forgotten minigame that ever was. That's right -- Rat Pits is getting removed with the next game update, and we're going to spend one last day appreciating how bad it is!
In case you've never played Rat Pits, here's how it's supposed to work. You and your cat go to one of the designated areas (in this case, next to the Flying Horse Inn in Ardougne), and challenge an opponent to some competitive rat hunting. The two of you agree on an amount of coins to bet on the outcome, and then your two cats go to work seeing who can kill the most rats in a particular time frame (with some strategy advice from you -- see Rat Pits for more details). Whoever's cat kills the most rats wins the stake.
Sounds like the best minigame ever, right? Well, what if I told you that it's been horribly broken for the last three-and-a-half years, and that the rats are invincible, and nobody can kill any goddamn rats so every match ends in a draw? Sounds even better, right? I guess that's what you expect from a piece of content that has been responsible for at least three major bugs since it came out in 2005.
We hope a lot of people will come out to celebrate the end of an era for RuneScape. Please show up with a pet kitten (not a cat or any other variant thereof) to the Rat Pits arena in Ardougne, and we'll pit (hahaha!) our cats against each other and see if any of them can hurt a rat at all. If anyone manages to "un-break" the minigame and kills a rat, I'll personally give you all my money. If you don't have a pet kitten, you can get one from Gertrude. This is your last chance to fully realize just how awe-inspiringly awful Rat Pits is -- it'll be gone tomorrow!
