The point of my RfB was to get the wiki a new 'crat. It's obvious the wiki would not like myself to represent this, and me being the representative was not my point. I feel we need a new one. Karlis is a very calm and casual editor. I feel he can fill the responsibilities of 'crat to the standards we set, and most importantly to myself, I trust him. 21:20, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

I, Karlis, accept this nomination for adminship. I have read the policies concerning administrators. I realize that this nomination may fail. If I do get community consensus, I promise not to abuse my powers because I realize that this is a serious offence and if the community finds that I have done so, my powers will be revoked and in extreme cases I could be given a community ban. Signed, Karlis (talk) (contribs)

Questions for the nominee

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?

I have taken part in most every aspect of my adminship since I was granted it by the community. My strongest points are blocking vandals, as well as doing janitorial tasks such as deleting unused files, clearing out the speedy deletion category, and assisting new (and not new) users whenever they require assistance that I may offer. I have also been trusted by central with the checkuser function, which has helped us (the community) deal with some pretty bad vandalism sprees, as well as confirming sockpuppets. I do my best to remain neutral in heated discussions, not taking one side or the other, so should an uninvolved, unbaised party be needed, I am there to help. My most recent was the discussion on the 'grove involving Fruit's block/ban from the wiki. After having read the whole article several time, I acted according to what the community believed without any hard feelings or grudges against the user. I was mature and believe I acted in accordance with the communities wishes and our policy.

Should I be granted the additional tools of a crat, my changes would be tasks such as granting rollback and adminship to those who passed a community concensus, and again providing unbiased closure to articles that either seem stagnant or need closure. Other than that, I would continue to run my daily administrative tasks that help keep our community safe and enjoyable.

2. What are your best contributions to the RuneScape Wiki, and why?

I don't make huge edits really at all. While I write a lot at times, I prefer to make smaller edits. A part of me would like to think that my greatest contributions include keeping us safe from vandals and those who wish to grief us. Personally though, I believe my greatest contribution couldn't have happened without the help of everyone here and central. I'm sure many people recall our "vandal bot" attacks some time ago. It appears that the way I do things maybe sparks question and a request for some order, but in the end turns out to be beneficial. If I recall correctly, I was the first to use our Protect Site feature, which made the workload of my fellow admins as well as all those assisting with the issue easier. Since then, a policy has been written regarding its use. While I didn't write it, I think creating awareness of the tool, as well as being trusted with checkuser is a great achievement not just for me, but for us all. I also run AWB often, both before there was a requirement from central and after, and help tidy up our little home.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?

The one that I look back on and slap myself for was personal attacks against User:Morian Smith. I greatly respected him, and still do, but at the time I did not in any way agree with he was saying, and rather than provide evidence to argue my point, I attacked his character instead. This was highly immature of me, and have not repeated anything of the sorts since. I don't really know why I did it, as I almost always try to provide evidence on my side, and still continue to do so today.

The other major one, which wasn't really an editing conflict, was involving User:Btzkillerv's ban from the encyclopedia, found here. I believe the entire situation was handled maturely, including the following conversations on his talk page over the next few weeks. While it was a conflict (as I don't believe he wanted to be blocked until the end) I believe this should be mentioned here.

Supppppppppppppppport - Karlis is one of the people that I've always thought would be an exceptional bureaucrat. Andrew talk 22:02, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I totally agree with what Andrew said, I've always thought that Karlis would serve the wiki well as a Bureacrat. He always keeps a level head on the wiki, has made outstanding contributions both through his edits and anti-vandal work, and is just in general a valuable asset to our wiki. 100% support --Aburnett(Talk) 22:56, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support—I always sense his steady presence on our wiki, helping to keep us on course. Having him as bureaucrat will only help. Horsehead Talk 23:03, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support We can respect his judgment and levelheadedness. He does a lot for the wiki on an ongoing basis and does this solely for the benefit of the wiki. The banning of Killer showed that he has a lot of patience (he had to find and list something like 73 links, that is a lot of time invested) but did it for the wiki, not out of personal grievance. He kept extending the hand of friendship and getting it bit, but he would do it again anyhow.--Degenret01 23:20, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - You'll make a fine bureaucrat, not too active, not too inactive. You're level headed and easy to get along with, you are an experienced wikian/admin and you embody many of the elements of the old wiki that have slowly faded over the years. (Oh and just keep this humbling fact in mind, my signature will always be your senior here :P).-- 23:15, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I have always looked up to Karlis. He is always calm, reasonable, and hardworking. He works well with others, reassuring them if they're having a hard time and making them feel better. I think he'd be great as a bureaucrat.  Tien  01:15, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Calm, reasonable, and fair judgment, that being exactly what a 'Crat should be. I also remember him helping me feel welcome on the wiki when I was new hear, something I appreciate vary much. I can't think of any reason not to give him crat rights. He edits almost every day except for an occasional break here or there, which is what we should expect from any human with a life. If your referring to lack of YG editing, this is something many of us think is a plus in the case of an future B'crat. For my part it is because I feel too many newer people (through no fault or intent of the B'crat in question) will be heavily influenced because "A B'crat said so so that means it is so". So by not speaking on topics all that often they are allowing many other voices to actually come up with their own thoughts. Which is to that persons and the Wikis mutual benefit. Hell, sometimes I worry I have too much influence (but that's probably just an ego issue Lol)--Degenret01 12:57, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
