Hi! I'm Max, as you probably can tell. I'm applying to adminship because I believe the tools might come in hand on my journing editing the English RuneScape Wiki (I'm currently a Wikian and Bureaucrat at the Portuguese Wiki). Many times I needed sysop tools and had to ask a current admin to do so, so I believe the tools will be very useful for me to continue contributing to RSW.

I, MaximusGugu, accept this nomination for adminship. I have read the policies concerning administrators. I realise that this nomination may fail. If I do get community consensus, I promise not to abuse my tools because I realise that this is a serious offence. If the community finds that I have done so, my tools will be revoked, and in extreme cases I could be given a community ban. Signed, Maximus Gugu of ArmadylQuick chat button: Your Friendly Neighborhood Artist. 20:13, February 15, 2018 (UTC).

Questions for the nominee

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
Mostly recent updates, moving and deleting pages, file uploadings.

2. What have been your most helpful contributions to the RuneScape Wiki, and why?
I did some templates (such as the Template:Infobox D&D), uploaded various transparent, transluscent and DII files, helped with some Titles pages, and other stuff.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I've been through some conflitcs while editing, but it was nothing as we discussed it peacefully on RSW's Discord. I plan on continuing doing so.

4. Should this request be successful, will you request IRC operator?
I don't thing I really need IRC tools, as I don't really use the system (Discord is better).

Additional questions (asked by the community if necessary)

  • I'm not seeing any obvious deletion requests from your contributions which suggests most of what you do is covered by the custodian tools you already have. Are you requesting deletions, or other sysop only tools, some other way? User:Cqm/Signature
I've never used RSW requests for deletion/moving pages, I asked directly on RSW's Discord every time I needed them. Maximus Gugu of ArmadylQuick chat button: Your Friendly Neighborhood Artist. 20:32, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
  • Besides deleting pages, none of the things you answered in the first question are actually administrative. I imagine that the deletion stuff came up as a result of not being able to delete some Jmod-related stuff earlier today. Are you requesting rights more for the purpose of convenience? xHR7zpA.png6encXAo.png 20:32, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
I had issues about deleting pages before, to move or just unecessary pages like some titles, objects and other minor stuff I had to ask to an admin. The JMods pages are just a recent case. Maximus Gugu of ArmadylQuick chat button: Your Friendly Neighborhood Artist. 20:39, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
  • Looking at your last 500 edits, there doesn't seem to be any edits where you have reverted or undone changes made by vandals. As counter-vandalism is a key part of adminship, how can we be assured that you can actually deal with them in accordance with our policies, regardless of your experience on another wiki? xHR7zpA.png6encXAo.png 20:32, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
I have experience dealing with vandalism on PT-BR Wiki, as a small community, many vandals and mean people edit pages and just delete everything. Every time I find somethin out of place here I try to either revert or fix. Maximus Gugu of ArmadylQuick chat button: Your Friendly Neighborhood Artist. 20:39, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
  • Another key part of adminship is resolving conflict and discussions. However, you don't actively engage in threads on the Yew Grove. You last engaged in a Yew Grove discussion 5 months ago, and a project discussion (The Wikian nom) 4 months ago, which makes me sceptical that you could actually determine consensus on these threads. Is this something you will be able to do, and if so, how? xHR7zpA.png6encXAo.png 20:32, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
I try to get involved in discusstions regarding RuneScape Wiki whenever I can. I didn't post on Yew Grove on the last ones but I discussed and helped with arguments on the #wiki-rs channel, as I didn't feel that I was right to support or oppose the terms. So, as an admin, I plan on stating my opinion on Yew Grove aswell the Discord Server. Maximus Gugu of ArmadylQuick chat button: Your Friendly Neighborhood Artist. 20:39, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
Why would being an admin make a difference to whether you should voice an opinion? The community makes decisions, not admins. User:Cqm/Signature
I didn't feel confortable to comment officialy on those discussions as a member of a Sister wiki and only a casual editor of RSW. Maximus Gugu of ArmadylQuick chat button: Your Friendly Neighborhood Artist. 21:28, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

Oppose - I think you're a pretty good editor and what you do with the Portuguese language wiki is great, but I don't think you're in a position to become an admin on this wiki. I don't really buy that being an admin for you is anything else but to add convenience when you'd like to delete pages, which isn't something that needs to be requested often as part of maintenance work (for all other requests, it should be an RfD or {{D}}). A lot of people do have to ask admins to delete pages, but most of the time that is resolved almost instantly and is never really a problem.

I don't really see anything coming out of this that would be beneficial to the wider community. You've mentioned dealing with vandalism on the Portuguese wiki, which is great, but that is a smaller community and governed by different policies and guidelines. As I couldn't find any reverts in your last 500 edits, it concerns me that you will be unfamiliar with what steps should be taken to counter vandalism on this wiki.

I think that the lack of getting involved in community discussions is something that also puts me off wanting to support this. I know you've mentioned that you don't feel like you can as you're only a casual editor, but all discussions are for everyone, and not decided by admins. I also don't see any prior experience to dealing with consensus-based discussions, as even looking through some of the posts on the Portuguese wiki, the threads are old and are few. So, this puts doubt in my mind that there is an appropriate understanding of how discussions actually work and how to resolve them.

I'd suggest demonstrating an appropriate need for admin tools on the wiki and trying to be more active in discussions. The work you do on projects like the Jagex employee stuff is good, but if you want to take it that step further, there needs to be a better understanding of other, more administrative things. xHR7zpA.png6encXAo.png 02:13, February 16, 2018 (UTC)

Not yet - you've done some really helpful editing here and brought about a renewed relationship between us and our pt-br sister wiki, but I don't feel that you're ready to be an admin on this wiki just yet. I haven't seen a great need for admin tools from you, and there's a considerable difference between this and the pt-br wiki in terms of our policies and expectations around adminship. I'd encourage you to spend some more time getting involved in the community here. As Cqm said all editors can and should get involved in the decision making process and this is something I'd expect to see from anyone requesting adminship. I'm not sure what has given you the impression that you need to be an admin to be involved in discussions but its certainly not the case :) Magic logs detailIsobelJRaw rocktail detail 07:04, February 16, 2018 (UTC)

Soft like plush soft oppose _ As per Isobel and Scuzzy you have done a bunch of great work for the wiki both this one and the PT-BR, I have worked with you personally but I am not seeing a lot of deletion requests which is something you state you needed.
