==Golden Path Challenge==

Hello. We are not having any kind of quick guide or quick solutions for the [[Golden Path Challenge]] anywhere, as it is a competition, rather than a quest, mini-quest, or task set. Please stop adding information on how to quickly complete the challenge on the page and elsewhere. Thank you {{Signatures/JaydenKieran}} 13:25, June 5, 2018[[Category:]] (UTC

PvP Lures

It is important to note that the abyss is often the target of PvP lures. These are players, or often groups/clans of players, that will attempt to take advantage of the abyss' wilderness location and automatic skull mechanic to lure players into the open where they can be ambushed and killed for their items. Players/clans may use a number of strategies to coordinate the killing of an innocent skiller, including but not limited to:

  • Offering to buy a spot from the victim - "The Real Estate Approach". Lures may show up at random, claiming the spot was theirs just a moment ago, and offer to buy it back from you for a large amount of money, often in the tens of millions. Lures will try to trade with the player, but will be constantly interrupted by attacks from abyssal creatures. The lure will then insist the victim follow them into the inner ring of the abyss, where there is no way back to the creatures aside from teleporting out of the abyss and running back through the wild. As soon as the victim enters the inner ring, the lure will teleport to another location, often Edgeville, and PM the victim to follow them to receive their money. Once the victim leaves the abyss, the lure will then tell the victim that they have gone back to the abyss, and the victim should meet them there. The victim, often still skulled, will make their way back to the Zamorak Mage only to be ambushed and killed by the lure, losing all their items.
  • The "Friend" Approach. This is an extremely manipulative and complex lure that most often includes a group of lures working together to kill a single victim. This approach is generally used on higher level players with very expensive equipment. It starts off in the same way as the Real Estate Approach. The lure will appear from seemingly nowhere, claiming they had just 'owned' the spot you are occupying. This approach differs in that if the victim simply offers to give up the spot, the lure will then act very friendly and insist the victim keep the spot, asking that the victim simply add them to their friends and PM them when they are done with the spot. The lure will then make suggestions based on the victims current equipment, strategies, etc. often offering to give the victim better equipment to increase their experience gains. If the victim agrees, the lure will insist the victim kill them in the wild as the equipment is untradeable. This strategy is generally employed to gain trust with the victim, but ultimately it is used to skull the victim if they are not already. At this point, the complexity of the lure begins to show. Any number of lures from the same clan/group will be present in the lure area, including Edgeville or other nearby safe-areas, including the Grand Exchange in order to keep an eye on and coordinate the movements of the victim to the rest of the lure party. Once the victim begins to make their way back to the Zamorak Mage to enter the Abyss, this will be relayed to other lures who will take position and ambush the victim, killing them and taking all their items. This approach relies on gaining the trust of the victim, only to turn on them and kill them for their items.
  • The "Loaned Item" Approach. This approach is very basic, but generally employed by less-experienced or lone lures. The lure will generally target a high-level player with high-tier equipment, and private message them. The lure will claim they have an item that was loaned to them by the victim within the last month or so, and that they would like to return the item (generally a high-tier item such as a Noxious Scythe). The victim, either attempting to take advantage of a possible identity confusion to score a free item, or completely unaware of the scam, will leave the abyss to receive the item. The lure will then inform the victim that they have returned to the abyss. The victim will attempt to return to the abyss via the Zamorak Mage, but will ultimately be ambushed and killed for their items.

Tips to Avoid Being a Victim

  • There are no friends in the abyss. If you don't personally know someone, don't engage in anything that might leave you vulnerable.
  • Turn on your Examine Privacy mode! Lures will often use this to check out a potential victims equipment before dedicating themselves to luring you!
  • Cosmetic overrides are your friend! Using an override to hide your actual equipment, combined with Examine Privacy, drastically reduces your chances of being selected for victimization by a potential lure.
  • If financially plausible, bring items that can lengthen your ability to stay in the abyss. The Blood Amulet of Fury and Scrimshaw of Vampyrism will both all but remove your need to leave the abyss at all, reducing wilderness exposure and your chances of being ambushed.
