This article is about requests for help from general users. For requests for help needing administrator tools, see RuneScape:Administrator requests.

Welcome to the RuneScape Wiki User Help page. This page is here to offer a central location for those who are participating with the development of this wiki to make general requests for help. For admin help, go here.

Note to users: Remove requests once they have been fully dealt with. Archive those that have a notable discussion.

Note for requesters: Once a solution has been presented and implemented, please add a comment signifying completion, if the request hasn't already been archived. This is to help other users know when to archive completed requests.

What this page is for
  • Coding help. Requesting help with writing templates, making a nice user page, or any questions on writing wiki-code can be asked here and users will help to the best of their ability.
  • Requests for non-administrative actions. If help is required with an action (such as moving a page), asking users here for help with that action is acceptable.
  • Questions on how the wiki works. All the policies and processes in use on the RuneScape Wiki may seem a little overwhelming at first. If you need help in understanding any of the policies, or more in depth instructions on a process, asking here is a good start.
  • Other questions to the users of the wiki. - While the Yew Grove is often a better place, a simple question may be asked here for a quick response.
  • An all-in-one place to put things. Many of the Wiki's procedures are lesser-known, so putting a note here is a good way to do something if the correct procedure is not known.
What this page is not for
  • Requests for actions involving administrator tools. Please use Admin requests for such requests.
  • Larger discussion with other users on policies or other wide-ranging actions. The Yew Grove is a more suitable location to discuss larger changes to the Wiki's policies, procedures and high-use templates.
  • General chat (about RuneScape or not). General chat about RuneScape (or an off-topic subject) should be taken to individual user talk pages, or article talk pages when applicable.

Quick guide inconsistencies[]

Hi, new to being an active contributor although I have been using the wiki for years, I've been noticing inconsistent steps during the One Small Favour quick guide and wondered if it was due to a mistake or simply my ironman hasn't done related quests to the relevant npc therefore options requiring 2 instead of 3 etc being scrambled on more than one occasion or if it is indeed an error and needs to be corrected.

Lebdestroyer (talk) 00:21, September 13, 2017 (UTC)Lebdestroyer

Both options are possible, but it's been a while since I've done that quest, so I don't know if they're either incorrect, or dependent on related quests for those NPCs. If that option is the option that you see, then please correct it, if it is dependent then other editors will change it to what they see, and then we'll have more prove to see if it is indeed dependent on related quests of NPCs, or if it was just incorrect. Image during Branches of Darkmeyer quest guide[]

Is inaccurate and not displaying 1 of the 4 posters to vandalise in order to gain status (located on the north wall of the range) I am absolutely oblivious to what is the general idea on how to fix this and would appreciate some guidance for this and future related occurrences.

Lebdestroyer (talk) 13:24, September 30, 2017 (UTC)

Forgot to add that I fixed the image. Magic logs detailIsobelJTalk page 12:30, October 17, 2017 (UTC)

Teleport Map[]

I uploaded a new version of File:Teleport map.png (edit: removed link to not blow up the page), and it has the error "Error creating thumbnail: Invalid thumbnail parameters" As it's a map of the world, it's a huge base image at 6400 × 3200 (20,480,000) pixels. The thumbnail generator has an apparent limit of 12.5m. Have any advice? Smithing-icon Illagong (talk) Ranged-icon 05:57, October 20, 2017 (UTC)

You can add a colon as the first character of the link, which will cause images and categories to become links instead of their usual behaviour. As for the the actual problem, I'm not sure why it does that, but I'll try to find out. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 07:17, October 20, 2017 (UTC)
I tried to revert the image, but it has no effect... Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 07:54, October 20, 2017 (UTC)
I managed to revert the image, could you supply the image to me as a link from imgur or something or via Discord, maybe I can upload it without errors? Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:09, October 20, 2017 (UTC)
I reuploaded your version and it still fails to create a thumbnail. However Map:Teleport map still works luckily, however it doesn't show the image on File:Teleport map.png and Teleportation. I wonder what might be causing it. :S Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 08:16, October 20, 2017 (UTC)

Tooltips and categories[]

I've checked Module:Infobox Item as thoroughly as I can without actually getting to test it (I'm not too keen on accidentally breaking Template:Infobox Item of all templates), and I can't for the life of me figure out why it doesn't seem to categorize items with tooltips into Category:Items that have a tooltip.
The tooltip parameter doesn't quite looks like any of the other parameter checks, but for each thing that it does differently there seems to be another parameter that does roughly the same thing (tradeable adds text using a function other than has_content, and AKA uses cat_map.defined when categorizing). Any ideas? User:I Am Me/Signatures 02:07, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

I've just created the category, it didn't exist yet, for the rest it looks like it should add that category to items if the parameter is not empty. Do you have an example of an item with a tooltip? Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 10:34, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
I know Aegis blood essence, Amulet of fury, Coal bag, Deathtouch bracelet and Tirannwn quiver 4 for example. Probably a bunch of others too. User:I Am Me/Signatures 11:36, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
Should now work. There was a small bug in Module:Infobox - one_defined wasn't updated for non-switch infoboxes. It now is so the tooltip category now works (as will Category:Pages with AKA). Weird gloop @Gaz#7521 16:07, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
Pages in MediaWiki are categorized when they are saved. If a transcluded template (including any Lua module) is changed to categorize a page differently, every page that transcludes the template must be edited and re-saved for the new categorization to take effect. (Null edits work for this purpose. Also, bots are great at large numbers of null edits.) The existence of a page in the Category namespace is irrelevant. --User:Saftzie/Signature 20:04, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
True, pages can have categories that don't have a page yet. I didn't mean that it didn't work because the category didn't exist yet, but more of a note that it just wasn't created yet. :P Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 20:42, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Adding scan clue icons[]

Is there a guide for how to add scan clue icons to the map at the top of each section in [[1]] ? I have added a new location to the table but no idea how to add it to the map. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ThatAdamsGuy (talk).

Looks like you worked it out; but generally the "link" and "title" phrases should be the same, then you just add the link/title as an id like this :) Magic logs detailIsobelJTalk page 15:26, March 4, 2018 (UTC)

Quest requirements grammar[]

Hi! In the Lua template for quest details, the Wiki text for "Requirements" starts "The below skill requirements [...]". This is is bad English as it makes no sense and should be corrected to "The skill requirements below [...]". Thanks.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.149.187.79 (talk) on 19:41, 9 May 2018.

Hi, this has been changed to "Skill requirements are not boostable." Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 00:08, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

Template:Ability link and Template:Chatl[]

Does anyone know why these templates don't work for me? I see full-size images in navboxes such as Template:Abilities or Template:Troll Warzone. Tested Firefox and Edge, it's broken in both. Any ideas? 5-x Talk 15:49, August 31, 2018 (UTC)

I've been told there's a script or something that makes images bigger for 4k screens and someone told me you have one right? Someone will need to fix it so it doesn't enlarge those particular images for 4k screens. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 21:24, August 31, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah I do have a 4K screen. Not using any scripts. A Windows 10 setting upscales interfaces and applications though. I guess it could be the problem. Thanks. 5-x Talk 10:19, September 1, 2018 (UTC)
Salix means that we use a script on the wiki that scales up images. It looks like this, and it's in MediaWiki:Common.js. I didn't make that so I don't know if that's the likely culprit, but it looks like it could be https://i.imgur.com/xHR7zpA.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/6encXAo.png 10:24, September 1, 2018 (UTC)

Image policy on new music album[]

I don't quite understand the image policy and how it would relate to this so I need help to understand it so I know what to do, or not do. I was hoping to upload an image for the new music albums from Runescape. The problem is that the image is from Spotify, so I'm not sure if this falls under Spotify use or Runescape fair use policy? To help understand, this is the album cover for "The Orchestral Collection", but in jpg format. So am I able to use this in png format and label it fair use or what do I do? [[File:Album-The_Orchestral_Collection_.jpg|thumb]]

Fairuza Skye (talk) 07:28, September 17, 2018 (UTC)

The image itself is unlikely to be owned by Spotify. Given what it's of, I'd say it came from Jagex in which case they own the copyright in which case fair use applies as it always does. User:Cqm/Signature
Just name it the same as the album please, 'RuneScape - The Orchestral Collection.jpg'. Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) 09:35, September 17, 2018 (UTC)
Ok, I've added the album image and learned how to link it for the 'RuneScape - Original Soundtrack Classics' page. So I'll do the same for the other albums. However, I have a problem with the image I showed for the Orchestral album, how do I rename the image to be `RuneScape - The Orchestral Collection'? It won't let me edit the destination name. Many thanks for the help and guidance with all this! Fairuza Skye (talk) 11:15, September 17, 2018 (UTC)
You can't move images. I have. Thanks for uploading that. Small recharge gem AnselaJonla Slayer-icon 11:18, September 17, 2018 (UTC)

Help making a form calculator[]

Hello. I wanted to make a calculator for a different wikia and the form calculator on the Runescape wikia looks like what I am looking for.
I don't know how to copy the form calculator onto the other wikia. The form calculator seems to use modules and javascript and I don't know how to do that stuff. Can I have some help please?
If this is not a good place to post this, please direct me to a better place.
