Outdated information box

How do you get the heading box about outdated information? Sorry if this is in the wrong place if its an admin tool. Edmyg 15:17, May 13, 2011 (UTC)

Put {{Obsolete}} at the top of the outdated article. (:

It's supposed to work as a table-line sort of thing with User:Matthew2602/RuneScape/Logs/Money/Table header, and the table works, but I can't get the background colours to display. Thanks.

Which program to use to record music tracks & instructions?

As title says, can someone explain to me which program should I use to record music tracks, plus instructions to do it correctly? Thanks. --Stone of Jas detail Talk Habblet Ring of kinship 17:13, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

You can use Audacity, I'll write a guide shortly. Template:Signatures/Rsa23899 22:10, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I realized I suck at writing guides, but here is a small one. If a video or pictures would make it easier, just tell me. Sorry if it's confusing or bad. Template:Signatures/Rsa23899 22:46, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, man. Easy guides, with simple steps. That's what I like! ^_^ --Stone of Jas detail Talk Habblet Ring of kinship 12:45, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Calling all JS monkeys!

The taskbar, you know, that brown floating bar at the bottom of your screen, has expanding menus on it naturally. I'm wondering if it is possible to replicate those, and if it is, can I have the code? Thanks.

  1. REDIRECT User:-Matt/sig 06:49, May 5, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not a JS guy, but I suggest you don't do that. Ryan told me a quite a few months ago that dropdown bars/expanding menus using JS will increase page loading times by a significant margin, don't take my word for this, probably best to check with a coder. 222 talk 06:52, May 5, 2011 (UTC)
Brown floating bar? If you're talking about the one inside RS, which isn't JS, tempering with that is against RS rules. I'm not sure what other brown bars there are. My contributionsTHARKON 18:52, May 5, 2011 (UTC)

Oh, I see, I started using monobook after they removed that other skin, because I consider the new Wikia-skin to be wasting width. It's probably something with onHover events. My contributionsTHARKON 19:40, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Add the following to the list of toolbar links you already have:

	$('<style type="text/css">.showdropdown {display:none;} .dropdownhover:hover .showdropdown {display:block !important;}</style>').appendTo('head');
	$('<li class="dropdownhover"><div style="position:absolute;height:25px;width:50px;right:auto;bottom:0px;"></div>Menu 2<ul id="toolbardropdown2" class="showdropdown tools-menu" style="right:auto;bottom:22px;"><li class="overflow"><a href="/wiki/firstlinkpage">firstlinktext</a></li><li class="overflow"><a href="/wiki/secondlinkpage">secondlinktext</a></li><li class="overflow"><a href="/wiki/thirdlinkpage">thirdlinktext</a></li></ul></li>').appendTo('ul.tools');

and in <li class="overflow"><a href="/wiki/secondlinkpage">secondlinktext</a>, replace the secondlinkpage and secondlinktext with the actual url and text. Add more of them to get more links. I hope it helps. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 18:22, May 20, 2011 (UTC)
Also in that code, the <div style="position:absolute;height:25px;width:50px;right:auto;bottom:0px;"> has width:50px; in it, which needs to be changed depending on the text you are going to have as "dropdown button", so that it changes along with that. Template:Extimage

Is there any way to change the way the width portion of this template works? Instead of changing the actual width of the image, it changes the seeing field. I can't find any other way to properly resize non-uploaded images...

I requested the necessary change. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 13:00, June 3, 2011 (UTC)
It works now. And doing <span class="extimage" style="width:100px">imageurl</span> would resize the image to 100px width too. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 15:51, June 3, 2011 (UTC)

2009 & 2010 Thanksgiving event.

What Matthew2602 said, although instead of "&" I think "and" would be more appropriate. Smithing (talk | contribs) 06:28, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Lol
  1. REDIRECT User:-Matt/sig 06:35, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Symbols would mess with the url and such, otherwise I'd say 2009/2010 Thanksgiving event. "and" works out best probably. My contributionsTHARKON 22:26, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

"2009/2010 Thanksgiving event" would make it a subpage of 2009, so "2009 and 2010 Thanksgiving event" would be best. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 23:43, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Yes check Decided - I closed the discussion, and we will just call the new article 2009 and 2010 Thanksgiving event, as I doubt someone's going to brainstorm up some other genius idea. I'll see if I can write the article now, or else someone else can do it. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 12:56, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

Weird picture glitch

I added a pic with trasparency and then it wasn't trasparent. Then someone linked to it and it was. I am confused. No one else changed the picture or added anything to it. Ulmuchiha 21:29, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

Comparing items

Anyone know why some items are shown to have missing stats when comparing even when the stats are filled in. See Ranger hat for an example. I tried to figure out how compare works but can't even find what page it uses. Both affected and unaffected items seem to be using the same template {{Infobox Bonuses}}, but the compare box isn't in that template as far as I can tell. My contributionsTHARKON 05:51, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Despite the fact I couldn't find anything related in Infobox Bonuses, the quest is raised and answered on its talk page Template_talk:Infobox_Bonuses, if I come across any I will try to fix them using the suggested methods. My contributionsTHARKON 06:01, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I was pretty sure I'd answered this previously. The image and caption stuff have to go at the bottom. Suppa chuppa Talk 06:02, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Merging Beacon Network into All Fired Up (activity)

RuneScape:Requests for merging/All Fired Up (activity) was closed with consensus to merge. Unfortunately I don't know much about the Beacon network, so I am hoping someone with more knowledge will be able to merge these two articles together, better than if I were to attempt to. Note that Beacon Network is to be merged into All Fired Up (activity) (and redirected there of course). Thanks, 222 talk 06:01, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

... Suppa chuppa Talk 06:02, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
If you don't know enough about it, just don't close it. Simple. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 11:18, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I beg your pardon. Part of my role as an administrator is to find consensus in discussions and close them appropriately; never did it say I must also be an expert at the topic at hand. Also, it was well within my means to merge the two articles together if I so wished, but I chose the ask for an "expert" on this topic to ensure that the information being merged was helpful and fully accurate. Curt comments like you posted do not help at all with this request, nor do they reflect entirely well upon yourself. 222 talk 11:34, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Or you could just wait for someone who does know enough about it to show up before closing. Last time this kind of thing happened, at the Skeleton's RfS, it was forgotten about quite soon. To prevent this from happening, the closing admin should just merge/split the articles himself, or wait for another admin to close it (unless they have already found someone to do it). Implementing the proposal or making sure the proposal is implemented is part of closing threads. That also applies to RfM/RfS. (unless of course the proposal is a wiki-wide change, in which case everyone should do it, but you get what I mean) JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 16:39, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Firstly, a large amount of the Skeleton page problem was my fault and not the closing admin's (due to me splitting and not being able to finish, and then not presenting the problem of unfinished work through a medium such as this here page). It is not and should not be an admin's job to implement a proposal. Their job is simply to make a decision, and to archive the discussion page. There is absolutely no reason why someone with admin tools should have to split a page, unless you believe in some sort of hierarchical supremacy. It has always seemed to me that large number of proposals in the non-yew grove discussions have been left for too long because those making the consensus decision don't yet want the hassle of implementing it. In these cases, had the decision just been made, it could have been implemented by someone else sooner, which would be likely be more efficient. In fact I myself have split pages that had quite obvious consensus to so with a long time left without discussion, simply because the way you think things should work was taking far too long. It would not be unreasonable to come to a decision on a discussion and then leave that discussion open until implemented. Instead, people feel the need to immediately archive something after the decision is made.
Regarding this particular case - Mr Brains was well placed to make a decision on what should be implemented, but did not feel completely comfortable with the information involved. This is not unreasonable. It is entirely possible that other admins feel the same way. Whilst it would certainly be better if the person making the decision also implements it, it is still better that the decision is made rather than just being left. This opens up other users, such as those proposing the merge, to implement it, rather than just leaving it for admins. I can say, personally, that I would happily have implemented a number of these split/merge things had this been done. Additionally, the idea that this will be forgotten about when it is placed on a page such as User help seems completely redundent.
