• How about a piece of fan fiction (like a story or something) in each issue? It could be entirely fictional, or it could be based on something that did happen in RS (like a story about the God Wars for example). If everyone likes this idea, I'll be happy to write it. Check out the two external links in my signature to sample other stories I've written (they're to other wikis).

• Thirded I think we could mayby have an informal commitee, in which everyone is allowed tries at short stories on a kinda rota, as well as mayby featuring someone such as Billy Bomb7, with a Chapter a Week, until the end of the story. That'd be really good, as the only thing with Billy Bomb7's stories is that its a few chapters all on one block page, very hard to concentrate on.We could have a link at the bottom of that page, to the archive of all the stories, but with each on a different page.Thanks--Zilenserz^{talk! • Fourthed. Have any of you read Billy Bomb's stories? I think they're great and he could write one chapter a week. Maybe have multiple people send in chapters every week, so it's never just one story. I think maybe... 10 people should send in a weekly chapter of a story. The way it could be layed out would be like 10 boxes, an image to the left in each box, the title of the book as a header, in smaller text the name of the chapter, and a small passage to get the reader intrested. • Fithed (Idk lol). If needed I can put my story on it's own page, or chapter per page. Kinda funny how I just wanted a couple fans for support, and look where I am lol. • So, ideas anyone? I'm really into the God Wars right now, so I could get to work on a story involving Zamorak and Saradomin teaming up in a battle to destroy some of the last of Zaros's followers? • Probably not something that deep in the Gods' history, but maybe have something about (for example) some wandering people and other creatures who came together and are viewing the God Wars in their own point of view? I would have to agree. An in-game interview (even with screenies) would be more convincing. An IRC discussion would have people- from this site and others -speculating "oh hes jusst an impostr", "thoes rs wikki nubz just wnt atenshun", and so on. I know you don't like to add people, but you could always just un-add someone at the bottom of their list, add the interviewer, un-add the interviewer after the interview is over, and re-add the friend. Or better yet, use clan chat. IF interviews are included in the newspaper (pray that I don't live to see the day that the wiki's content standards sink that low), they will have to be verifable that the person being interviewed is who they said that they were. An impostor Gertjaars could provide an entertaining interview, but we would have to indicate that he is indeed an impostor and not the real Gertjaars. Dtm142 22:47, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

NEW IDEA: Why don't we have clasified's as adverts for this wiki/clans/clan wiki. For example: we could design like borders backgrounds etc with stuff like: Join Da-Chia clan today! Level 100+ needed! or Need a sig? Just ask at Zilenserz's talk page! Making signatures since 2008. (all this would be in little boxes) NOTE:I tried to design something for this, but I failed. I think It'd probably be best to cannibalise the archive box i designed (that took ages too, rofl), that means designing it as a table. I'll make one now.P.S. Done! However, I couldn't find any kinda fancy bits of text art-those kinda flourish things people make out of characters such as /( )|-_, but here it is without them anyways:

Aye, That was the first time I'd ever looked into table syntax. After abiyt 30 minutes, I'd worked out most of it except the cells. I'm working on it, as everytime i try to design Classified Prototype 1.2 the way I've designed it as signle cell plays murder on the writing positions.Enig, I'll send a message to you, asking you to explain the cell spacing thing, thats what I'm mostly stuck on. :)--Zilenserz^{talk! Ok, I think We should get started actually making the first issue now. So long as we have several interested people wriiting some article's, we should be able to get issue 1. out by Feb. 1^st.That way It'll be bang on the start of every month, easy to keep track of. Do you think we should have a calssified request page? That way everyone can request one without having to ask every member of the team if they could have their advert on that issue. WE could have and Event category for requests, and non event categories. the event category would obviously mean that all in it almost automatically go into that issue,as by next issue the event will have happened. I agree. Since we won't immediately have the fan-fic, can I do some trivia questions & answers (I don't know the coding to make multiple choice questions, so can someone help me with that?)? We could have easy, medium and hard questions. The easy ones would be things like "Where is the barbarian village?" while hard would be things like "What was the name of Zamorak's human bodyguard when he attacked Zaros with the Staff of Armadyl? (the answers are west of Varrock, north of Falador and Viggora respectively). ~  Sentry Telos ^Talk 

Telos, Why don;t we have a link to one and a link to another, mayby like RSWP/issue1/trivia/question1/viggora and everyone who clicked there because that's their answere would sign there, and if we look at all the pages, and someone that signed atleast 8/10 right could get a kinda prize award thing, a bit like teh enigma present, as well as the ability to use a userbox, similar to the userboxes I designed, and Congratz copied for our separate awards projects, with teh first one saying something like "Zilenserz got 8/10 of the trivia questions correct in issue 1 of the RSWP" , and after 2 wins it'll say "Zilensers has got 8/10 or above on 2 RSWP issues trivia questions" then 3, 4 , so on. btw, this thing seems kinda dead rofl, noone is adding anythign much, and I've just realised how much manpower (sorry to sound sexist) this is gona take per issue to fit this into an issue a month. People would be putting in about the same amount of time for free that people who get paid in the magazine buseniss put in. We have over 25 people willing to contribute, so it should be easy to bust out at least ten periodicals a month, plus all the other things. And yes, we are reaching the end of this discussion, which is what I have been waiting for. I used your layout as a base, as yours was actually really good. Because of this i didn't make lots of the pages.Here's my link.

Things i added/changed are here:

1. I added a page which i think should be on every edition of the magazine (by edition i mean issue): A page telling all who helped with teh pictures/wrote stories etc. Note: The editor's are the ones that take the stories and images and put them into the layout, right link page etc, so that the writers dont have to spend all their time doing that, as well as allowing people that love writing, but aren't too good at formatting a go.
2. I added part of an article onto the front page, with the title and prologue kinda thing on the start (kinda like the featured page on teh homepage, but about one of the important/controversial/talked about/well written pages for the issue.
3. I cannibalised the userboxes storage template, so that we can now have teh links to the pages on every page, without getting in the way, it looks nice too.
4. On all the other pages of the magazine (not including front page) there should be the header layout from teh front page, but with the title of the page, who wrote that page, and on the third line (un-small-ified) a quote from one of the authors/image people of teh page or magazine, about the magazine or the content/isue of that page.
5. The main page article would be continued onto its actual page in teh magazien btw.

Rules on news stories

Here's some proposed rules about what news entries will need:

• Periodicals should be over 1KB (~1,000 bytes). Idealy, at least a few KB.
• Periodicals must either be about news-worthy things going on on this site, or news-worthy events that are going on/went on in-game.
• Periodicals cannot be about players in specific (e.g.: "Defil3d lost 72M cash in PvP!").
• To avoid the newspaper being overrun by either site-related news or game-related news, the two subjects should be no more than 2:1 apart from each other. Idealy, they would be 1:1.
• Interviews should be of members of the community. Though, if an opportunity comes up to interview someone of interest (e.g.: Zezima, Andrew Gower, Tehnoobshow, Sixfeetunder, Aclaw, etc.) an interview can be done on them.
• Classifieds can only be posted by legit wiki members (say, more than 100 edits?).
• Someone who is writing a periodical should have at least 100 edits (though, this can be bypassed per RS:IAR if the person does not have 100 edits, but knows what they are doing). (Added at 22:00, 19 December 2008 (UTC))

Maybe I could be a person to try out new updates, if they're for free players? Also, I could be an editor - I wouldn't be the Chief Editor, of course, but I'm pretty well-off with grammar and spelling and such. My last idea (for myself, at least): I'm hoping to be a member again, eventually, so when that happens, I could help with the non-quest updates, if I apply for any such requirements. If we were to allow anyone (primarily speaking about new editors), that could damage the quality of the paper's content. That's why I suggested the 100+ edit rule. I haven't reached the 100 mark on this particular wiki just yet, but I have on other wikis and I'd really like to help produce stories for the new post, so please don't exclude me. I've been here since April so I'm not exactly new, so how about a 50+ rule? ~  Sentry Telos ^Talk 

Yea, 50+. It takes either a long time or a lot of dedication for people to get to 100 edits. Btw, has anyone had a look at my layout version??? the links there. Oh! Sorry Sorry! I didn't realise I'd made it sound like i hated everyone elses!!!! It's just that i love his! Telos, youre stories are really good m8! Btw, when you all say a different author a week, would that be for short stories? I like the more than 1 story an issue idea. We could mayby have a different author an issue for a short story, and then the next chapter from the current long story, until the story is funished, after which the next long-story writer could start. I think that unless the author writing the current long story had a backlist of short stories, we' could take them off the short story rota while their long story was in issues. This'd mean that the long-story writer would'nt have to be pressurized in writing 2 stories. sorry, I really didn't mean to sound that bias'd before! Btw, do you think the list design i did would be worth adding into it? It keeps the links out of the way, while being close enough so you dont have to go looking for them. As to get back on Topic, I think we should go with 100+ edits over 50+, as it didn't take long for me to get 100 edits tbh, and it'll help to keep people from creating throw away accounts and sock-pupetting them to support thier story or article if we have some sort of voting system implemented like the RFA voting or something. I haven't been saying much in this discussion because I don't want to have to be a person holding the project up. I want everyone interested in it to do their fare share (triple rhyme yay).

The point of this discussion was to get our act together and our facts straight, then resubmit it backto the Yew Grove. The first try resulted in a bunch of people opposing, thinking that this was going to be a tabloid filled with POVed news stories, stuff about players, and all that content we won't have. At this rate, the first issue may come out by January 20^th or something.

About fanfic stories: the seemingly policy-happy opposers would probably slam it with RS:NOT, claiming that we should, instead, shove those over to RSFF.

I just read RS:NOT, and there's nothing there to suggest we can't write fiction stories for the newsletter. Besides, we can ask the opposers what they have against stories. What's wrong with reading a nice bit of fan fiction (we can outline in bold that it is fan fiction, or fanon). Plus, we want stories for the newsletter on the RS Wiki, not RS Fanon. And please don't make it 100+, I don't reach that mark and I'd love to contribute. ~  Sentry Telos ^Talk

So Sorry, Chia! The reason i dismissed the Newspaper man part is the fact that the way you've said it makes it sound like Hey Man, we're making a newspaper. Btw, I think most people are girls. Even though i'm male, i'm biased in the fact that i generally slide towards thinking someone is female. Sorry. The Fan Fiction stories really should be able to go, Just because it's Not RSFF, doesn't mean we can't have Fan Fiction on the wiki. This is proved because nobody has yet tried to (in my opinion) vandalise Billy Bomb7's work by deleting it and saying it's not policy. Though this may be because it's a subpage. Are we going to start creating articles yet? We could have people who's role is to transfer all information/pictures/stories that are submitted into the newspaper layout. Well I don't think people have tried to vandalise my stories because they haven't gotten out as much. But if the newspaper Does include stories, the pages on which they are located will need protection. Also about the people who would be assigned specifically to put articles into newspaper format. Fan fiction stories in the userspace are just fine, but anything more than that would be flagged as 'not our responsibility, we shouldn't have that here, it deserves to be over there, yadda yadda'. Whether or not it should be okay, people will flag it. For now, it should be left out. After we can at least start the project, we could consider adding fan fictions in a later issue.

And to clarify, fan fiction is not the same as fanon. Fanon is allowed here. Black partyhat. (See RS:NIP, guideline 3.) That's fanon. Fanon essentially means "myths started by fans, and eventually widely/semi-widely accepted as official canon, but never accepted by whoever decides canon" (which would be Jagex in this case). Fan fiction means "fiction created by fans", and staying just that: fiction.

The 50+/100+ rule would only be there to keep out newbies who, frankly, would be doing most everything wrong. RS:IAR would fall into place if someone- like you, Telos -did not meet the benchmark but did know what they would be doing. Don't worry.

Well I guess waiting until the Newspaper gets into full blown action, then it would be better than just to throw some fan-fic in there and see how people react. We could even include a poll in there asking users if they would mind if there was a short story and chapter of the week in the paper. I guess it would help all the people who don't want Fan-fic in the paper express their points easier with out starting a gigantic edit/flame/RS:NOT war. We could also have say.. an individual Poll over some articles to see if people liked that kind of article and we should do some more in that manner. KInda Same... I'm not too good at the general editing to add information, instead I'm kinda better at formatting, fixing that link, Saying if I think someone's user formatting could be tweacked slightly. Please note I know I have not been a supporter of this project, mostly because I worry about it detracting from the point of this wiki, but your 50 or 100 count edit rule is a major problem. The only place in the wiki that edit count is necessary is for article of the month voting.. If you start excluding people based on edit counts then your paper really does not belong on the wiki.--Degenret01 17:37, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

[Assuming you haven't, which you should have,] Read the above discussion. The rule would be completely bypassed if the person in question actually knew what they were doing (which would hopefully happen most of the time). With our userbase of 226+ active users- most of them being inexperienced with wikis and/or liable to go inactive after a few weeks -what's to keep them from passing up such an opportunity? "Oh, look. If I write a newspaper article, everyone will be able to see it!".

In AotM, that requirement is set in place so people who actually know what they're doing decide on what our featured article becomes. History of Varrock, or Money making guide? The same applies here. Would we want something written about a 100,000^th article milestone, or someone's "journalism" about how they hate the trading updates?

I meant to limit who writes periodicals, the 'prized possession' of the newspaper. Who's to say we won't get hordes of stupid writings dumped in? I have to agree with Chia, though the rule should (as he said) be bypassed if someone (such as me, for example) doesn't reach the 100 edit mark yet knows what they're doing and won't write opinionated stuff that doesn't belong in the newspaper. Basically it's just to prevent people who have very little experience to accidentally mess it up. If they can demonstrate that they DO know what to do, then I think it should be fine to let them in. ~  Sentry Telos ^Talk 

I also have to agree with Chia. Even though I've read just the last few comments only, I think he has the best idea. We will get many "unexperienced" users. I've been on this wiki for over a year and a half now and understand the rules greatly. There need to be a criteria in who can write them and stuff. Anyway, thats my view.
