ZGWD

I've moved all the GWD related talk to the events talk page. User:Swizzl3d/Sig 20:47, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

Events Main Page Box?

What do you guys think about asking for a space on the main page for events? Just to gain some advertising and such. User:Swizzl3d/Sig 21:06, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

There already is one, and that seems to be responsible for the enormous turnout. If you're interested in having such turnouts in the future, then this is a good idea. User:(wszx)/sheeeeple 21:56, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

Times

If the current trajectory is followed, and we plan to have an event every weekend, I think we should be a bit more deliberate about the times we pick. With such frequent events, I think it's acceptable to host events at times such that it's very convenient for one set of timezones to the exclusion of others. Where in the past it's been a struggle to get everyone to be able to attend events (like Wikifests) these weekly events are frequent enough that missing some because it's not a good time is acceptable. I don't know how you plan to pick times in the future, but this is a thought. User:(wszx)/sheeeeple 21:52, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

-I completely agree. More events on weekdays. I think we should have some boss hunts with a minimum level to join the clan - like 100. (Don't go higher than 100 - we're not big enough to get enough members then) Then we could actually seriously do a boss hunt. However, try to make it so as few timezones as possible, and no commonly-played-from-timezone, has to be online at 12am-4pm to do events on weekdays. So basically: try to make most of our participants (target Americans and Brits most) have the event at 4pm-11pm. Agreed?---Zaayir

A small note

Arnos, on behalf of Zybez, has stated that they are interested in hosting events with us. The Events Team may wish to take this into account when planning. Thanks, 222 talk 10:11, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

Nex

Anyone fancy a Nex hunt? I know it is high level content, but most events are for low levels, it should be fine to add just one "veteran" event? Atheist723 13:20, February 10, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe in the future. (;

Considering that the previous GWD trip was Zamorak, I think future GWD trips could work their way up to Zaros, instead of jumping straight there. At maybe one per month, we could get there eventually. Plus there are other boss hunts we could have, like the Corporeal Beast or the Dagannoth Kings, although they'd be harder to handle, I think, when 1000 people show up, too. I was kind of hoping that the new tools for clans would help organize such trips, but, based on some recent posts my Mod Chihiro, it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. --User:Saftzie/Signature 20:19, February 12, 2011 (UTC)

More Events

I liked the zamorak boss event and think we should have more boss events --Qazwsx753421 21:22, February 12, 2011 (UTC)

Join and Event Idea?

Hey How do I join the events team? Also I was suggesting members blast furnace event204.186.3.209 14:15, February 24, 2011 (UTC)

Two points...
  1. Requests for participation would go on RuneScape:Events Team/Requests, but they're not soliciting any more members right now.
  2. What would a wiki event feature that just going to World 58 wouldn't?
HTH --User:Saftzie/Signature 00:14, February 25, 2011 (UTC)
It would allow people under level 60 smithing to use the furnace. Members would take ore from a location (GE, upper floor of the furnace, consortium, etc) and then dump it on the belt. As we run the furnace, we would take bars to smithers at the level 60 anvils OR to the upper floor so they can be used on regular anvils. It could run bucket brigade style. Axslayer33 16:22, February 26, 2011 (UTC)
If I understand correctly, you're describing a setup where there are potentially 3 groups of people.
  1. Level 59- running between an ore source (bank, mine, GE, whatever) and the upper level of the furnace, providing ore and taking bars.
  2. Level 60+ running between the upper and lower levels of the furnace, taking ores, smelting them into bars, and returning (or possibly giving them to a third group).
  3. level 60+ taking bars and smithing items on the anvils.
So ...
  • Logistical problems
    1. The only way trading bars for ores makes sense is if the smelters start with an inventory of bars and trade them for an inventory of ores. (Taking ores and saying "BRB with your bars" isn't really an option, if you think about it very long.) Unless the smelters are making iron or gold, it takes multiple ores to make a bar. The ore runners would need to note at least the iron (for steel) or coal (for mithril+). They should probably also provide the cash the smelters would need to unnote the ores. So we're talking about an event where players are exchanging money as well as possibly high value items (bars).
    2. Smelting provides the least experience when going from ores to items. Smithing items from bars provides the most. There's little xp incentive for the smelters.
    3. If there are smiths at the anvils on the lower level smithing full-time, how do they provide anything back? Or did you mean they come with noted ores and cash and the smelters trade them bars for ores? In which case, as a frequent visitor to World 58, I can say the smelters really have a reason to hate the smiths. People who never contribute to the operation of the furnace, but smith all the time at the anvils, are considered freeloaders. Serious furnace participants would stay away from this event like crazy. Only suckers would join. That's not a good precedent for a wiki event.
    4. There should be something in it for everyone. How do you even convince people to show up?
  • Economic problems
    1. Smelting ores into bars, while providing the least experience, normally provides the most economic gain. However in this event, smelters wouldn't see much, if any, of it, unless the runners were also willing to pay the huge premium to have their ores smelted.
    2. If there are cash incentives to approximate the market values, who sets the prices? If, for example, trades are intended to be balanced, players can (will) try undercutting and gouging, basically turning what should be a friendly event into something that's not.
    3. Creating a situation in which participants are trading cash as well as items all the time seems to be inviting scams. Even if there are errors made in good faith, it still seems like there's a good probability somebody's going to get burned. "Good probability" means it'll happen more than once, proportional to the number of people that show up. As the sponsor, the wiki has no fraud insurance, nor would I expect it to have any.
Disclaimer: My thoughts are my own. YMMV. --User:Saftzie/Signature 17:39, February 26, 2011 (UTC)
hmmm true....the other idea I have is a relay race. Racers would be on two or more teams, with a different cape color to tell each team apart. Runners would go to various points (for times sake I'll use free play world), and wait for the one before to arrive. I.E. Runner 1 would start at Shanty Pass, run north to Ali the leaflet, then trade the one item he's holding (bread, bronze sword, or other similar item) to the next the runner, who can't run until he has the item. R2 would run from their to varrock square, trade with R3, and so on until they reach the end point, in this case the zamorack tower. First man to arrive wins for his team.Axslayer33 15:46, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
