Rune bar detail

A rune bar is a bar of metal, refined through the Smithing skill by smelting a runite ore and a luminite in a furnace, requiring 50 Smithing and granting 10 Smithing experience.

At any anvil, players can smith rune bars into various rune weapons and armour, granting 240 Smithing experience per bar used. Since the Mining and Smithing rework on 7 January, 2019, all rune items can be made at level 50.

Since the Mining and Smithing rework, when high alchemy is cast, the bar gives 250 coins. Equipment, however, gives 500 coins times the number of bars used to make. All high alchemy return amounts are listed here.

Three rune bars may also be obtained as a random reward from the crystal chest, or dwarf traders. Additionally, 3 or 50 noted rune bars may be rarely obtained from the rare drop table.

Cost analysis

Assuming all materials are purchased on the Grand Exchange, the cost to produce a rune bar is 2,315 coins. As a rune bar is currently worth 2,985 coins, each bar represents a profit of 670 coins. Smelting rune bars at the Blast Furnace reduces the cost per bar to 1,867 coins, a profit of 1,118 coins. Using Superheat Item to smelt, along with a staff of fire represents a profit of 265 coins.
