The Rune Crossbow is the highest grade of crossbow made out of standard metal and the 2nd most accurate of all crossbows, behind the chaotic crossbow. It requires a Ranged level of 61 to wield, can use bolts up to dragon and is for members only.

Rune crossbows can be made through the Fletching skill at level 69; a player must first cut a yew stock for the crossbow from yew logs, granting 50 Fletching experience. Then, a player must add rune crossbow limbs to the stock, granting 100 experience and making an unstrung rune crossbow. Finally, they must string the crossbow with crossbow string, granting 50 experience. The rune crossbow is the second strongest crossbow in the game and one of the strongest range weapons overall, but it is slower than Karil's crossbow. If it is combined with an Unholy book, it will surpass the dark bow in Ranged attack bonus. It can also be wielded with a shield, similar to throwing knives, allowing a significant defensive bonus. This allows for players to range while still keeping defensive abilities of shields such as an anti-dragon or dragonfire shield when fighting dragons.

They can also be obtained through Level 3 Treasure Trails.

Trivia

  • Sometime during April 2010, a glitch re-appeared where the rune crossbow caused the Guthix Stole to stretch when wielded together. This has yet to be fixed.
  • The Rune crossbow used to be named rune c'bow in game. It was recently changed to Rune crossbow.
  • There is a common misconception that the higher grade of crossbow, the higher the max hit will be. The crossbow itself determines accuracy only. The ammunition used determines damage dealt.
