Sacred clay hammer detail

The Sacred clay hammer can be obtained as one of the possible transformations from a Proto tool (costing 20 Stealing Creation points). This hammer gives double experience bonus in both the Smithing and the Construction skills.

The hammer starts with 100% charge which decreases as it is used to smith metal or to build furniture. At 0% charge, it disappears. It can be reverted back to a Proto tool and then changed into any proto-tool (this process does not result in the loss of any charges, unlike its volatile counterpart).

Smithing

The hammer provides bonus experience for any action that normally requires a hammer, such as smithing bars on an anvil.

From 100%, the hammer will earn the user roughly 32,000 bonus experience on top of the original 32,000 experience (64,067 total experience) before using up all its charge. The quantities of what a player can make can be found in the table below; some values may not be accurate but it is a rough guideline.

Construction

Originally the double experience in construction was only given for directly building items (i.e. in build mode) and not at the Workshop for flatpack items, but as of 13 January 2009 flatpack items also receive double experience.

The experience received in Construction is constant, regardless of plank type. Each Sacred Clay Hammer will give 50,750 experience (25,375 bonus) before crumbling to dust. The Sacred Clay Hammer will NOT give extra experience for the portion of experience that exceeds the 50,750 experience limit, but it will give the bonus experience up to that point, even if another is in your inventory.

The Sacred Clay Hammer will stack with the Constructor's garb.

Using the Sacred Clay Hammer on something that requires nails will give you a better chance of not bending the nails.

When building an Armour stand, the Sacred Clay Hammer will give you double exp on both Construction and Smithing.

Other

The Sacred clay hammer cannot be used to repair gates in Pest Control. It can be used to open the door to Bandos' Stronghold and fix the pipes at Blast Furnace.

It will not give bonus experience in the Shades of Mort'ton activity or while creating cannonballs, or anything else that involves Smithing but does not use a hammer, such as smelting bars.

The Sacred clay hammer may be used in the Artisans Workshop and Blast furnace (only smithing the bars, not smelting) for additional experience. However, respect is not doubled when using the hammer in the Artisans Workshop.

The smithing ring bonus will not stack with the sacred clay hammer bonus. The sacred clay hammer bonus is used before the clan ring bonus, with the exception of experience gained in the Artisans Workshop.

Assuming you are capable of obtaining 4 sacred clay hammers per hour(doing skilling stealing creation and end the game early), you save about 507,000 Coins for every hour spent in Stealing Creation.

Trivia

  • The sacred clay hammer had the normal hammer animation for Smithing until the Stealing Creation update in December 2008. The animation for Construction was updated in February 2009.
  • When used with Varrock armour 3 to speed up the smithing process, it used to show the normal hammer in the animation instead of the sacred clay hammer, but this has since been updated.
  • If the sacred clay hammer and a regular hammer are both in the player's inventory, while smithing a number of items, it will switch back and forth between the two hammers.
  • When there are multiple sacred clay hammers in your inventory, the first one in your inventory is used.
