Any damage dealt to Scutarii from the front or side will be massively reduced, dealing only 10% of what the hit would have normally done. To deal full damage, they must be attacked from behind. The only exception to this is the Bombardment ability, which deals full damage regardless of the direction it is facing.
There are two ways to do this; one is to successfully stun the Scutarii. The other method is to use an ability while running past the Scutarii at the right moment. While click-intensive, this kills Scutarii extremely quickly, especially if stuns are on cooldown.
When stunned, Scutarii become permanently bound onto the spot they were in. They'll also be facing the direction they were looking at when stunned for a significant amount of time, before which they will turn around as normal. Scutarii have incredibly high defence (even more than the Legiones), so it is not recommended to tackle them unless you possess tier 90 or higher ranged weaponry, as tier 80 can miss fairly often, even when boosted. With the correct weapons, a slayer task, a ranging boost and Anguish, 100% accuracy can be achieved.
Scutarii are often found near the Capsarius, which makes killing them more tedious. Scutarii are usually found alone or in pairs of two, though there are also groups of three and five in the same area.
This monster's name comes from the Latin word for 'shield-bearer', bearing similarities to this monster's appearance.
This monster and the other monsters in the dungeon are the first to have a weakness to a generic attack style (in this case, Ranged). These weaknesses were previously restricted to players.
If stunned, Scutarii are still able to attack a player even though they do not turn around, making it look as if it was attacking at the air.
If a Scutarius is stunned, and then the stun effect wears off, even if the player is under the Scutarius, it will not move from the spot it was stunned in. This might be an oversight or glitch.
Scutarii have two different appearances; one with a crystal mask enveloping the face, and another with the crystal mask enveloping the face but having the beard exposed. In the Monastery, if a Scutarii is killed too many times, all future spawns will use the beardless model. The bearded model only seems to appear only during game updates. However, when placed in the Sunken Pyramid, both forms are used with equal discretion. It is unknown if the monastery spawns are glitched to only spawn beardless models after several spawns have passed.
There is a bug where if they are placed in the Sunken Pyramid, they will randomly despawn during combat or generate random ascension members in its place.
