The shady man is a man imprisoned by Shantay at the Shantay Pass. He has sworn off all worldly possessions, and is willing to part with a jewel for a coconut drink. Despite being supposedly locked up, he is actually able to come and go as he pleases as the door to his cell isn't locked, but he chooses to remain in the cell because it gives him a place to think.
