Magic Dart (also referred to as Slayer Dart in the Game Guide) requires 50 Magic and 55 Slayer to cast; in addition, a slayer staff, staff of light or a properly charged (Greater) Runic staff must be equipped to cast it. When using the Staff of Light, there is a small chance that this spell will be completely free, costing no runes at all. Magic Dart's maximum hit is determined by the Magic level of the caster, and is equal to 100 + Magic level. The maximum hit of even an entry level Magic Dart user is therefore 150, and a maximum of 199 at level 99 Magic. However, it is possible to hit over this amount using Magic boosts and pieces of equipment which grant Magic Damage bonuses.
Magic Dart is the only magical combat spell that can damage a Turoth or Kurask, along with the Leaf-bladed sword and Leaf-bladed spear being the only melee weapons and Broad-tipped bolts and Broad arrows being the only ranged methods that can damage them.
Magic Dart is a popular spell for the Barrows activity. The runes required to cast it can be replenished from the chest in the crypt, making it an economical choice. Furthermore, all of the Barrows brothers except Ahrim are vulnerable to Magic attacks (Karil, despite wearing ranged armour, has almost no magic resistance at all), and while Magic Dart's accuracy is, like other combat spells, determined by the Magic attack bonus, the Barrows brothers have so little Magic defence that a high Magic attack bonus is not necessary to effectively employ spells against them.
Other uses for Magic Dart include fighting Dagannoth Rex and quest monsters with high melee defence such as the Giant Scarab.

Trivia
- Due to the skill boost and increased damage during the quest While Guthix Sleeps, it is theoretically possible to hit up to 2240 at that point in the quest.
- The runes for Magic Dart are also a reward from all slayer masters when you trade in points after completing the quest Smoking Kills.
- Before the Evolution of Combat, Slayer Dart required 1 death rune and 4 mind runes.
