Concept art of Solomon

Solomon's General Store is a micro-transaction-based store released on 17 July 2012. The store sells a variety of unique customisation skins, titles, hairstyles, and other items for the player to purchase. All transactions in the store are done with runecoins, which are purchased with real world money; however, every player is given 200 free runecoins from the start. All members are given a 10% discount on every item in the store.

The General Store shares its location on the interface with the Squeal of Fortune and customisation, in the bottom-left tab.

Controversy

The store itself caused a great deal of controversy at launch, as the items are only obtained using real world money. Many players voiced concerns over further microtransactions, however, many others were pleased knowing that this store was purely cosmetic, unlike the Squeal of Fortune.

However, on 28 August 2012, a new wave of controversy was sparked with the release of Bank Boosters, which allowed players to add 50 more slots to their bank, up to 250 extra bank spaces. Some players saw this as a blatant disregard of Jagex's previous stance on real-world trading, allowing the purchase of what they believe to be an in-game advantage with real-world funds.

Jagex has responded by pointing out that the Bank Boosters will also be available for purchase with Loyalty Points, and that it gives an opportunity to non-members to grow their bank while still allowing members for "free" extra bank space. They have also been noted as saying that they do not consider the extra bank space an in-game advantage under their stance on microtransactions and real-world trading. It has been at least 3 months since they promised the Loyalty Boosters "in the coming weeks".

Trivia

  • After 9 October, Jagex made it so that teleportation spells will have a random animation, chosen from those a player has bought, played when he or she chooses to teleport. This was suggested on the RuneScape Forums.[1]
